JELLY SHROOM CAVE BASE EXPLORATION | ACTION

[In the early morning, just after breakfast is cleaned up, Sorey sends a telepathic broadcast to whoever is still currently hanging around the base:

Hey everyone! We found a strange cave way down deep in the tunnels a couple of weeks ago, and the fish down there told us there were humans living down there somehow! We’re going to check it out today. You’re welcome to come with, but bring some kind of shielding, all right? There’s a whole bunch of Tiger Plants on the route, and those spikes they shoot are no joke!

Mikleo chimes in: If you have swimming troubles, I should be able to take you around, though a couple of you might want to bring Seaglides as well. We mapped out a partial safe route, but keep in mind there’s some very large predators, and the water pressure’s going to be pretty intense if you move too far from us down there. Come prepared for that.

Should you as an intrepid explorer decide to venture down into the tunnels with them, there’s plenty to see. Glowing Jelly Shrooms are scattered across the caves, the only bit of light offered so far down in the dark. Sorey and Mikleo will lead the group in a careful circuit through them, not going too close. It’s easy to see why when a couple of Crabsnakes poke their heads out curiously.

The abandoned base the group will come across is small but has some useful items if you care to take a look. There’s also a dully glowing three-person Seamoth to be discovered not too far away, out of power, if any technologically-inclined people want to figure out how to get that back to base for use.

((OOC: Open mission post for Jelly Shroom Base Exploration! Sorey and Mikleo will tag whoever tags in, but feel free to jump other people as well and branch your explorations out separately if you’d like. There’s a lot to find!))

[...Josephine. Seriously?]

You mean talk the enemy down.

[Or... to death? He read the memes about The Discourse. IS IT REALLY THAT DANGEROUS??]

I'll manage like this.

[HE WILL NEVER SUBMIT TO THESE VILLAINIES SOREY. You fashionless weirdo.]

It usually just requires a little organization.

[Losers wear wetsuits. Dirk wears swimming drunks.]

Not really. I just find it easier.

[ Good thing she was barely out of the lab, if she wasn't on a mission like this. Her lips quirked slightly, the small scar on her lip pulling as she did it. ]

I might swing by that way once in a while.

[ Ah yes, the dreams. Valentine didn't trust them. She didn't trust anything that meddled with her brain too much. The telepathy down here was a necessary evil. The dreams, unfortunately, were probably going to prove to be the same. ]

It seems a lot of effort. Maybe there were resources down here they needed. Natural ones. And they found the others later.

Might be worth looking into.

[Jake considers what he said, nodding. Maybe it's the Hope player in him but he wants to believe they're safe.]

Doesn't seem like the worst idea. Moving around would make them hard to find, though. Maybe they rocketed off even on that ship they found. I don't really know. But if they didn't, it might be worth trying to find the ship.

[At least Ripley seems content for now. Jake watches it curiously. That sure is a weird thing, to know Ripley is playing with someone he can't see.]

My apologies, Mikleo. And golly, that must be strange for you. Let's see... a hermit crab, if I remember correctly, is a variety of crab that lives in a found shell or other object. They engage in rigourous fisticuffs over shells as well.

[reexamines that statement, and yes, okay, point taken]

I may or may not be categorizing them together as 'generally weird, creepy, ocean-fixated things' to avoid creeping myself out with too much supposition.

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-07-20 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
They fight for territory? How strange...the only crabs I ever saw had shells on already. Do they go through another stage where they outgrow the shell, or is this something different that starts entirely without one?

[CRABS ARE MORE FASCINATING THAN EXPECTED]

Like minerals, right? Or maybe there's more to those mushrooms than meets the eye.

...it'll probably take at least another trip to figure out, though. If we can get what's of interest in this base sorted out this time around, maybe it can be used as a breather point to explore deeper into this area from.

[It's okay Jake loves animals. He loves talking about animals??]

They outgrow them! It's like living in a tiny house. They can only get so o so much without a bigger home. I don't rightly know how they start off, just that they find their shells after that.
oneandmikleonly: (stars up in the sky.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-07-20 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
...so not actually too different from the eels that live in those mushrooms, just different materials. Do they use any kind of shell?

[He takes her tools and moves fast—as fast as she has seen him flashstep, getting everything he needs to done in a flurry of movement—]

Now!

[He really does not want to end up getting himself killed on the delay here so he'll make the connection the second she does.]

[The Discourse is a dangerous weapon, how dare you]

Yes. People often underestimate the effect simply using our words can have.

[She doesn't cross her arms, because that's not dignified in front of an almost stranger. But she's practically doing it, okay.]

As long as they can fit inside, those critters will use anything! People built homes for them sometimes.

[Jake nods back, smiling.] We don't know where they found it, so it's worth looking! Even if we don't find it, we're bound to find some more adventure!

I'll be sure to stay in another room an octopus bursts out of my skull.

[COLD IS FOR THE WEAK.]

Swimming and salvaging. I spent enough time diving growing up that I'm accustomed to doing it this way. I would adapt it if it was unusable, but so far I'm managing.
oneandmikleonly: (mermaids?)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-07-24 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's a wonderful evolutionary adaptation. Unfortunate if they get caught in between shells, but otherwise they don't need to expend the energy to grow a new one every time, especially if food is thin on the ground. Though, they don't get this large...do they?

[lifts the Boxing Snail up a little for emphasis -- Jake can't see the staff it's hanging onto with its claws, so it looks like it just started to hover -- and then sets it down again, mildly perplexed]

Strong grip.
oneandmikleonly: (world's a beast of a burden.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-07-24 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Um, no, in THAT case you need to stay IN the room so we can get the octopus out and we can pour as many healing spells into your head as possible.

Though I appreciate the concern.
