[Rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. As it turns out, we came up with a plan that got us through the volcano with minimal damage. For once, we made the choice that ended in the least disaster. Now, we just have to keep taking care of the planet it a way that's less road-to-helly and more good-intentionsy.

So...You're still alive. It's May now. Animals need saving, possibly from Nancy's curiosity.

Will you go looking for the new Koosh Bush? Are you concerned about the animals who may have been displaced by the volcano?

Will you finally sympathize with URSULA's demands for terraforming and build a nice little island for the cat Naoko and her crew? Well, probably nothing will go terribly wrong this month.

[Well it's nice that we can talk now! The storm kicked up some trouble so why don't you go help out? There's debris of things from home you may now have the chance to dig up, or maybe someone will help find them with you? There are also debris deposits that URSULA has located about. Grab a friend or two and go check them out!

There is of course also the ordinary work around the base to be done: building and repairing, exploring regions, trying to befriend every single thing we meet. Or maybe you just wanna play video games.

[this text message is getting sent to everyone from Sorey and Mikleo. absolutely everyone]

hey everyone so dirk and percy and we went to visit the planet soul a little while ago and found out a bunch of stuff, so we’ve tried to put it all together to get everyone on the same page --
  • if you see a weird green light + singing + a lot of feelings in the dreamscape that’s Iniidae’s soul manifesting. It looks like it’s tied pretty closely to the Emperor and Dragon, two halves of a whole. half of it that’s represented by the Emperor wants to work with us, half of it that’s represented by the Dragon wants to get rid of us, so it’s in all our interests to swing the balance towards the first thing.
  • the weird alien base in the acid river was built by some aliens called Precursors a long time ago to deal with the Carar disease. as far as we can tell the Precursors all died but the Warpers got left behind and the planet kind of adopted them. we asked the planet to stop making them attack us and it said yes, but they’re kind of unpredictable on their own, so if you see one be careful around it. if you were looking into communication with them before please keep trying! they were made to help get rid of Carar too, maybe there’s a way to work with them.
  • the planet really, really wants us to do something about curing Carar. we already knew it was messing up the Sea Dragon but it looks like a whole bunch of wildlife is infected with it. if you know how to work on vaccines and medicines, or want to learn, we could really use your help. if not, we could still use your help with tracking down and trapping infected wildlife since we need them not to be spreading the disease further. they’re hard to miss: if you see something covered with glowing green growths when it normally shouldn’t be, that’s Carar. curing it might be the biggest thing we have to do to get the balance of the planet to feel more kindly disposed towards us instead of evenly split.
  • we’ve also spoken to URSULA and she says putting scanners and decontaminants at the base entrances can be done and will help keep us all from getting sick again.
  • the planet also made it pretty clear that the man-made structures like the base and the crashed ships are hurting the planet. if researching diseases and hunting for missing sea creatures isn’t your thing, we still need to find a way to fix that. it seems like fusing coral to the base and growing plants on it has helped integrate it into the environment, so if we want to keep using facilities we find we can try to do the same to them. if we don’t need a structure or it’s just wreckage on the ocean floor we should look into just taking it apart fully for resources though.
  • there’s more Precursor facilities we haven’t looked at yet. we’re planning to check the one that was found under Mountain Island shortly, if anyone wants to come. there’s apparently one way down deep where there are lava flows too; we found a video record of it but need to figure out where it actually is, so if you’re in a mood for exploring crazy dangerous seascapes, there’s a mission for you -- we really want to find that one since we think the Emperor’s body and/or her kids might be there. oh, and if you happen to pick up something that looks like this can you let people know? they might be datacards or keys.
  • thanks to Karkat (hi Karkat!) we also have a device that we can use to help translate all of the information we’ve gotten from the Precursor facilities. if anyone has a knack for picking up languages or doesn’t mind dedicating a few hours to help out with that it would save a bunch of time.
  • pretty much any time and help you want to give regarding any of these things would be great! it’s a lot of stuff to do but we’ve done a lot of big things already, we can do these too! ⌒(o^▽^o)ノ and uh if you just recently arrived and have no idea what we’re talking about we can explain stuff or you can read up on it in the labs! either/or
  • but also if you just want to relax since we had a pretty tense few weeks we found an island that’s not too far away from the base that has really friendly alien seals living around it. be careful since they’re pretty large, but they’re also pretty friendly if you give them some fish!

[various linked photos and the coordinates for Alien Seal Island are attached to the message.]

[They're under attack (they've been under attack) and they need solutions, answers, help in any form that they can get it. There is a constant thread of green light weaving between all of their questions, pointing them to what they just might need to solve this whole mess, but they need to get to the heart of it first. Literally, because it's sort of the planet's heart, somewhere in the dreamscape.

Deep diving into the dreamscape for an extended period of time is something they haven't done before, at least not intentionally, so they do take the time to prepare. With their bodies in the pods they should be safe from any warping attempts, and they can trust everyone in the base to look out for them while they're asleep. They don't know how long it will take them to find the green light they're searching for. But they can try to make sure that they find it before it's too late to count.

Even with adrenaline running high, it's easy to fall asleep in the pods. Sorey opens his eyes first, to see that the dreamscape is as serene as ever. There's a faint sound of the Void Song far, far off, and he tilts his head in that direction before turning around and counting heads.]

Are you guys good to go?

[It's a new year! Well, by the fragile construct of calendar time we're creating on this planet, anyway.

Here's a an open mingle for all your January needs! Are you trying to stalk our new alien stalkers back, or reach out to them, or fight them? Building? Exploring the biomes, for fun and/or to uncover more about our alien friends? Researching? Hugging URSULA? Raising Birdogs or getting involved with other wildlife? Making or breaking resolutions? OTHER? Whatever it is you're doing, you can put it here.

Don't forget to check the OOC plotting post to see what's going on and get involved with missions!]

The Christmas Festivities take place over the course of the day, though there aren't a ton of games like on Halloween. Besides the base decorations people have been doing all month - including a tree the base is welcome to decorate together, though it's an alien tree - there's Christmas pancakes (...they're normal pancakes) and a bunch of gingerbread and sugar cookies to frost and then devour. There's also candy canes. Lunch is Christmas sandwiches (THEY'RE NORMAL SANDWICHES...but cut into christmas-y shapes) and dinner is some sort of bird meat and potatoes and etc. A fancy spread. Though you can do your own thing, those are all food-related options.

Activity-wise there's karaoke set to a bunch of holiday songs in the entertainment room or there's ice skating at the roller rink/ice skating rink. There will be constant music playing at the ice skating rink. There's also present opening/swapping throughout the day; Dave didn't give any direction as to when it should happen and figured people would do it whenever they wanted, so. There's also a christmas movie marathon occurring randomly throughout the day if you feel like joining in on that.

Near the christmas tree, by the way, is a chair for the OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED SANTA to sit in. There is a sign saying so. That Santa is apparently Asgore.

At night you may want to go on the ferris wheel near Lake Chiron, where the fair is going to be built! The ferris wheel is the only part that is built, but is complete and decorated with lights and bows. Apparently it has also been rigged so mistletoe might happen while you're riding it. But it also might not? So enjoy the view!

And we have our Christmas Gift Meme over here still!

[When Percy Jackson gets an idea, it's better just to let him do it even if it's probably a bad idea. Such an idea is how a large group of explorers wind up taking a submarine or two out toward the dunes, Percy swimming alongside them to lead them onward before diving down under the dunes. Let's do a little exploring where the water flows below, shall we?]

i.

[Deep under the dunes the group will find several waterfalls and caves to explore on their own. There's also the acid river he mentioned to a few people, all surrounded by tree-like plants in arches and pathways.

The eel is still there and even more agitated Percy brought friends this time. Do try to take care not to get electrocuted, okay?]

ii

[That's about where Percy stopped the first time, but with a crew now it's easier to keep going. Crew members may wish to follow the river northeast where they will all discover an unexpected and massive structure. It's easy to enter the docking area and check out the inside of the base through the dim lighting.

It's clear that it's different than anything else they've seen before. Crew members can explore the different floors but it's clear that every area has one thing in common. What will you do with these aquariums?]

iii

[Because really, the base itself has a lot to look at. Each aquarium houses weird little creatures suspended in a stasis mode. They're definitely not moving, but it appears the tanks can be moveable.

Aside from that, there are also some terminals that could use some attention. Any of our tech-inclined crew members can fiddle with it enough to bring up a video showing someone large tearing into the facility they're in, knocking in the walls until it settles to its current form.

But if you're not interested in weird aliens or weirder terminals, there's plenty to look at. An elevator-type opening appears to be the in-between of the floors. Be careful where you step though seeing how it'll flip you into Zero G.

Or you can explore to your heart's content. Who knows what else you'll find…?]

So in non-radiation-leaking news…[There’s a slight pause and then the splashing of water like Percy’s still in the ocean.] Staying away from the Kharaa sounded like a great idea and I might have found something else.

The place where the water flows below. I think I found it. [And for anyone who wasn’t part of the Grand Reef exploration:] When we went to explore the Grand Reef some of the fish kept mentioning something that attacked the Degasi crew and that one of them might’ve sunk to the water that flows below. Problem is I don’t know if that means one of the crew members or one of whatever attacked them.

Anyway, I’m going back. I didn’t get far enough to really explore down there but there’s a bunch of caves and waterfalls that need to be checked out. [A beat.] Annnd some other stuff.

[That’s not ominous at all.] The tunnels should be big enough to get a submarine down there if anybody wants to come with me. [And suddenly he seems a little more commanding.] I don’t know what we’re going to find down there but if you think you can hold your own, let me know. I want to go back soon.

Video.
Hey, guys. Has anyone else been keeping track of those uhhh "hotspots"--is that what we're calling them now? [A pause, and then a shrug.] Let's just go with that. Anyway, I've been flying out when I can to mark down the ones I've found around Iniidae. If anyone's been doing the same, we should compare notes.

Soooo, I've got a question. [Korra grins, then moves the camera angle until the large mushroom cap she's laid out on the island is visible.] Anyone like mushrooms? I found a whole forest of them in the ocean earlier. This was the smallest one I could find. It wasn't easy carrying it back, but it might be worth it if these things are edible.

Action I.
[If anyone happens to be near the entrance to the base island, they'll be greeted by the sight of Korra lugging the mushroom cap down the halls and in the direction of the kitchens. There's a trail of water behind her.

When she realizes someone's watching her, she'll look up, then back at the water gathered behind her, and smile sheepishly.]

Um, I'll clean it up later?

Action II.
[Or perhaps the others will catch her in the kitchens, when she's already managed to carry the unexpected bounty to its destination. The mushroom cap takes up the entirety of one of the tabletops.

Korra stares at it, hands resting on her hips, face contemplative.]

Okay, maaaaaaybe I didn't exactly think this one through.

[Wowee! We get hit with a pulse on the seventh! Isn't that fun! Also, a ship crashed, and baby it's cold inside. Some prompts.

A: Pulse: A pulse hit the planet! Life support went out, and that super sucks, but it will only last for an hour. Maybe more sucky: some or all of your powers may or may not have died! That's awkward. Are you disappointed you can't walk through walls now? Has nothing changed for you? Are you now a dead girl because you made a deal some aliens? Are you a sword? Have fun kids, and try not to hold a Class Trial.

B: Salvage: That sure was a ship that went down! URSULA identified it as the Narcissus which is apparently a human military ship so obviously this will be safe and no one is going to come across any type of trouble salvaging the ship. Maybe someone should text Naoko to tell her what's going on. Everything is fine.

C: Blanket-sharing meme: You know what you're here for.

D: ETC: Roxy is putting up mistletoe, there are flowers, people keep building stupid things. Do whatever!]

[A soft-hearted group determined to solve their problems with kindness, stubbornness, and friendship (or, you know, something close to that) have been hard at work to find the source of the sea dragon’s illness in the hopes of ultimately curing it and maybe preventing any more horrible nightmares like the ones from the previous month. Sending a drone down into the Void to obtain a sample from the sea dragon instead of sending a person is one of their better ideas, made even more efficient by the fact that Mikleo has perfected the ability to provide their drone with a (temporary) invisibility cloak in order to prevent it from becoming a dragon snack.

Sorey diligently keeps everyone updated on their progress, but it takes several days of observing its sleeping patterns before they’re ready to make a move--the sea dragon doesn’t sleep as often as they’d like, and it’s hard to get a sample of the illness when it’s wide awake. Tonight has led to a stroke of luck; the camera feed from their base of operations in the lab shows that it’s sound asleep, and they’re able to clearly make out the glowing protrusions that are a strong marker of just how sick it is. But getting the sample is the easy part; analyzing it is another thing entirely. When they've successfully secured a sample Sorey sends out a brief telepathic query]

So...is anyone familiar with illnesses that give you glowing boils?

[They might need a little more science than friendship on this occasion.]

Hey, it's Hinata. Just a heads-up to everyone here on the base, but I've been doing some checking into our memories. You know, the ones that no one seems to agree on? I saw some people sent out a survey a couple weeks ago to get that kind of information.

The short version is that as far as I can tell, we all have a shared memory of... drowning. Followed by electric shocks. Regaining the memory is like... I don't know, when you suddenly remember something that was on the tip of your tongue. It makes the "fake" memory of how and why we're here feel like a dream.

I have a couple theories, but nothing concrete yet. I'm going to keep looking into this. Uh...

[And here he looks a little uncertain, lips twisting into a half-frown.]

If anyone wants those memories back, I can help with that. It's... not really a nice feeling to remember, but if you want to, I'll be in the med bay the rest of the day.

action;
[True to his word, Hinata can be found in the medical bay! Surrounded by all kinds of futuristic-looking tools to enable him to scan a person's brain. Has he always been good at this kind of thing...?]

[Here are the OOC results of what's literally shsl brain fuckery 2: electric (feeling) boogaloo. Also feel free to handwave Hinata helping your character get their memories back if you'd prefer.]

[A fairly large group of heroes is making a foray into the Grand Reef now that the Reapers are gone. They're keeping an eye out for resources the base/Naoko could use but also questioning the fish; checking for signs of humans passing through; and also looking for the Emperor’s children, which the Reefbacks have pointed out might possibly be lurking in this area.

i. fishy findings

[Thanks to the combined efforts of the group, they’re able to get some information from the local fish. It’s a bit of a charades game for everyone (except Percy) but it becomes apparent that the Emperor’s children aren’t in the Grand Reef..or at least not the part they can access right now. But the fish seem more than happy to share some additional information about recent signs of humans and--well. Maybe they really do need a translator for some of this. Do you need some help communicating with the locals, or are you able to figure out what they’re so eager to talk about?

It looks like Fi is able to pick up signs of some natural magical hotspots here with her abilities, too, for those interested in that side of things.]

ii. hunt for humans

[The crew of the Degasi has left yet another abandoned base in this area, fill with supplies and information that could be of use. Their prizes this time are some audio logs, books, tacky sweaters, knives and other weapons, Reaper meat, and most importantly donuts. Additionally, locked inside of a desk is an odd object that might be worth investigating.

All of these finds aren’t going to make it back to the base all on their own, though, so it might be time for some good old fashioned looting. The Degasi crew’s illness and their run-ins with the Reapers might be worth discussing, too.]

iii. wildcard

[...or are you doing something else out here altogether? Go nuts!]

OK SO I AM GOING TO START THIS OFF BY SAYING THAT NO, MY CAPSLOCK BUTTON IS NO BROKEN, FUCK OFF
YES, THIS MIGHT BE A LITTLE TLDR, BUT ALSO CONSIDER DOING THIS: FUCKING OFF!!
NOW THAT WE HAVE THAT COVERED, I AM MOVING ON.

DO YOU KNOW THE FLASHING LIGHTS THAT WERE AT THE MONOLITH?
YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, BUT AS OF TODAY THEY ARE NO LONGER A THING.
YOU'RE WELCOME? ALSO IF YOU GO VISIT IT YOU SHOULD PROBABLY BRING A FLASHLIGHT
FOR NO PARTICULARLY REASON. JUST, YOU KNOW, IN CASE YOU MIGHT NEED IT ANYWAY
SO IT TURNS OUT THE BAD 70'S MOVIE PROP WAS SOME SORT OF DISTRESS BEACON??
WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THESE PEOPLE. WHO MAKES A DISTRESS SIGNAL THAT FUCKING OBNOXIOUS AND HARD TO TURN OFF?
I MEAN, I GET IT! IT MAKES THINGS EASIER TO SEE BUT SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK.
BUT YEAH. APPARENTLY SOME SHIP FLYING OUT THERE IN SPACE SAW IT AND SENT A MESSAGE.
IT WAS BASICALLY ASKING WHAT'S WRONG, ETC ETC, NOTHING TOO IMPORTANT.

WHAT *IS* IMPORTANT IS THAT WE CAN SEND A MESSAGE BACK TO THEM.
BASICALLY WHAT I AM SAYING HERE IS, WE CAN CONTACT A SHIP AND A CREW THAT CURRENTLY HAS NOT DONE A THELMA & LOUISE JUMP DOWN TO INIIDAE.
AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK WE SHOULD SAY TO THEM? GIVE ME YOUR OPTIONS AND I'LL WRITE A RESPONSE BACK.

[ if u want more specific details, here was the mission comment. I AM PROBABLY GOING TO FILL OUT A MISSION COMMENT RE: REPLYING TO THIS MESSAGE by... the 29th or the 30th?? maybe? so i can turn it in before the month ends. jsyk. give karkat ur characters' thoughts. ]

i. action (locked to alisha/rose)

[Sorey and Mikleo have pretty much been sleeping like the dead for the past couple of weeks, following their accidental fight with the Dragon; their breathing is steadily, and they don't seem too debilitated by the long nap, but they also, worryingly, won't stir out of it.

until now -- both of them start to come awake at the same time, turning onto their sides, one of them letting out a queasy sort of groan. this is not an entirely pleasant revival.]

ii. text (open)

hey sorey and mikleo here

sorry if we worried anyone we accidentally got in an argument with the dragon again

we don't recommend doing that by the way. it looks like we were out of it for a couple of weeks. did we miss anything important?

iii. action (open)

[...or if you'd rather talk to them in person a little later in the day, they'll emerge from their room eventually, though probably nowhere too far -- kitchens, library, that sort of thing. they're kind of wobbly and look unwell, though not too terribly so.]

hello everybody!
this is jade and i have a quick request for everybody if they have the time!!
alphonse and i are trying to think of some theories about how and why people are being brought here so to do that.... we need data!!!
we developed a very short survey for you to take and i have attached it at the bottom of this message
it will just ask some things about when and how you got to the base
you do not NEED to answer this survey... but it would be super helpful to scientific research if you could! :o
thank you everybody!!! <3

[THIS MONTH: KINDA YIKES.

i. nautical nightmares

with the Sea Dragon angry, the dreamscape's a worse place to be in, and sleep thoroughly unpleasant. are you living through your nightmares of transformation, isolation and helplessness, or falling into other people's? or are you trying to drag them out, via the Song Dirk and Shiro alerted the base to, or via more (less?) conventional means?

maybe you're a lucky soul who's avoided the nightmares for a few precious hours, and used your time in the dreamscape to other purposes.

ii. watery waking

are you awake and watching over dreamers? or just plain trying to avoid sleep yourself, whether it's through chugging coffee, or running experiments, or base-building, or decorating the base for the upcoming Halloween festivities? or maybe you're marathoning URSULA's entire archive of 1950s instructional videos.

what? those things are fascinating.

iii. seascape shenanigans

...or maybe you're up to something else entirely. but what is it?

as always, check out the monthly plotting post for current missions and planning!]

Getting a sun tan before fall fully sets in is important too!]
