JELLY SHROOM CAVE BASE EXPLORATION | ACTION

[In the early morning, just after breakfast is cleaned up, Sorey sends a telepathic broadcast to whoever is still currently hanging around the base:

Hey everyone! We found a strange cave way down deep in the tunnels a couple of weeks ago, and the fish down there told us there were humans living down there somehow! We’re going to check it out today. You’re welcome to come with, but bring some kind of shielding, all right? There’s a whole bunch of Tiger Plants on the route, and those spikes they shoot are no joke!

Mikleo chimes in: If you have swimming troubles, I should be able to take you around, though a couple of you might want to bring Seaglides as well. We mapped out a partial safe route, but keep in mind there’s some very large predators, and the water pressure’s going to be pretty intense if you move too far from us down there. Come prepared for that.

Should you as an intrepid explorer decide to venture down into the tunnels with them, there’s plenty to see. Glowing Jelly Shrooms are scattered across the caves, the only bit of light offered so far down in the dark. Sorey and Mikleo will lead the group in a careful circuit through them, not going too close. It’s easy to see why when a couple of Crabsnakes poke their heads out curiously.

The abandoned base the group will come across is small but has some useful items if you care to take a look. There’s also a dully glowing three-person Seamoth to be discovered not too far away, out of power, if any technologically-inclined people want to figure out how to get that back to base for use.

[Holy shit, who is the person who keeps leaving these weapons behind.

Dirk sorts through the crates to find out what still works and what doesn't. He doesn't really need blades thanks to Loki (although it is very tempting to steal that lightsaber) but he thinks they could probably bring a lot of these back to base, especially if they can fix up that Seamoth.

But when he picks up the set of clothing and starts feeling them, he finds a knife. And another knife. And another knife. Dirk ends up standing beside a pile of knives, holding a shirt in his hands.]

I can't tell if this was ironic.

[Another knife falls out of the shirt.]

SEAMOTH: NOT A TURTLE SUB

[Of course Dirk makes his way over to the Seamoth. Of course he tries to get it to work. He makes an inspection of the vessel, and after figuring out that it should be functional, he reaches out a telepathic call.]

If anyone has anything with a power source they can let me drain, bring it to the Seamoth. I should be able to charge it.

[He has some other methods in mind, but they'd be a lot of work right now. For the moment, he can be found hooking up a Seaglide to transfer its juice to the sub.]

[Someone got distracted with the grumpy boxing snail. Jake is floating above it, having chased it outside, and keeps playing a rather dangerous game with it of lowering his hands down, waggling his fingers, and yanking them back before it can snip them off.]

I guess I'll name you Ripley? How about Amanda Ripley?

[The snail scuttles under him, reaching out in the desperate hope to fight him.]

Maybe I can carry you back...

[Jake has temporarily taken one of the recordings. He'll put it back when he's done! But right now he's trying to figure out where in the cave it was made. He presses his ear hard against it and keeps listening to it, doing idle loops in the water because staying still is for losers.]

Oh horsefeathers. [He sputters and settles down on a jelly shroom which is luckily not housing anything. The recording discussing the ship keeps replaying as he stares out into the darkness of the cave, thinking.]

[Mikleo starts to drift over when he sees Dirk put the first knife down, curious, but it takes him a while to cross the crowded little base, with most of his concentration on controlling the water around the group. so it's just. this slo-mo progression of Dirk putting down more and more knives and Mikleo's expression growing more and more comical.]

Isn't it just impractical? Can someone even fight with that many at once without seriously hindering themselves?

[Jake is going to help with the seamoth by dangling his feet at Ripley, his new friend, while Dirk works on it.]

When you get it juiced up, can I ride in it? Ripley wants on board, too.

Ripley actually just wants to fight Jake but whatever close enough.]

[Curiosity leads Sorey over to check out what Dirk is doing--things in crates are usually useful! And that's when he sees more and more knives being pulled out and can't help but make a face.]

[he's got an unseen (though perfectly audible) audience raising invisible eyebrows. they hadn't met the Boxing Snails the last time they were in here. fascinating creatures -- and as unafraid as the Crabsnakes, apparently.]

If you do, you might have to either take it back or make some kind of setup that approximates this cave for it fast. It may not do very well outside these conditions.

[Beautiful. Truly magnificent slomo journey, Mikleo. Dirk would clap, but they're underwater.]

I have no idea. Whoever it was really did not want to get caught without something sharp on them.

[This is ridiculous. This is like shoving swords in a fridge? There are so many.]

[That isn't helping at all. Dirk actually sticks his head out to look at Jake.]

[For fighting crab snakes? He has no idea.

Don't people use knives for cutting fruits?

[He doesn't know but he feels like he has seen it on tv.]

[Jake looks up the address whoever him except he's not there? He looks behind him, then up, then at Ripley for a confused moment as if maybe the angry snail started to talk to him.]

Uh, yeah, well, I wouldn't want the little gal to be scuffed up. She looks like she's got enough troubles on her shell.

[potentite]

[He's busy babysitting a snail and having low confidence!!]

Oh, you don't want me gumming up the works. You could probably just k-ball it from a glider anyway, right?

[splinten]

English. I need someone to divert power from everything auxiliary so we can get this running on minimal power.

[You are not so busy with either of those things that you can't do this for him.]

[Swimming over to take a look at what he's found, and helpfully keeping an eye out for any Crabsnakes. He doesn't know if any of these new kids can fight off giant water monsters yet.]

Do horses have feathers?

Knives are very useful utensils involved in the preparation of food! We can put them in the kitchen.

[And maybe get some of these guys some basic cooking lessons. Just to make sure they don't stab themselves with a knife on accident.]

[He pushes away from Ripley and floats over the seamoth.]

Uh, where have you already blocked off? Did you check the inside specs?

[Dirk nods. He folds the knives back up into the shirt to make them something more compact, then puts them all in the crate with the rest. It's not bigger than him, so he's able to drop it into his sylladex.

Unfortunately, his sylladex is not as big as it used to be. Something has to be ejected to make space for weapons box.

Flying straight for Sorey's face are a pair of dirty socks.]

[He shuts off the recording to be polite, since he thinks it's not nice to have something on when someone is talking to you??]

Huh? I guess a pegasus would?

Haven't blocked off anything yet. We should be able to divert power from life support at the least.

[Since they all have the breathing apparatuses they need. He is tracking Jake's movements out of the corner of his eye. Good English, go do something instead of feeling useless.]

Righty-o! Let me get in there.

[Jake swims under the seamoth and slips in quick through the hatch. He takes out the breathing apparatus for now and starts reading the panels, flipping off what he can. Most of it has to be manual, though, and he takes out a multitool.]

What do you want to stay lit?

[splinten]

Movement. Anything else can go.

[The point is just to get it up to base. Anything else should be fine. ...Unless they have to shoot a crabsnake but Dirk figures he can just wrestle it? That should be fine. It's not too much hugely gigantically way bigger than him.]

[potentite]

[Jake nods and takes off the panel, staring at it thoughtfully, running his fingers over different wires as he figures them out. It's kind of like a puzzle.]

Do you think it will make the trip? It's been around the block a few times.

[splinten]

If it can't, I hope you're ready to push.

[Telepathy doesn't make it any more clear if he's joking or not.]

[He rolls his eyes.]

Do I look rough and tumble as Gene Tunney? Man, I couldn't push this.

[splinten]

No, you don't look over a hundred years old. You just talk like it.

At this rate they might have done better to just make the actual shirt out of knives.
