WAKING UP FEELING
Roderic's finally awake.
He's never felt more alive since he had first slipped into the deep sleep.
He also felt horrible.
The first thing Roderic does when he finally snaps awake from his coma is to sit up and try not to hurl all over himself, hand slapped over his mouth to discourage whatever wantheart racing like he had just run a marathon, his skin just as clammy, but his head was clear for once and he could think straight. Maybe passing out and waking up in a new place isn't half bad.
Until he notices some changes to the area he's in. Huh. He doesn't remember that or that or that or...
… Just how long has he been out? He tries to slip out of the covers and get back on his feet to survey the room better but finds his legs have a better idea on what they shouldn't do after having done nothing for such a long time.
It isn't long before he ends up creating a spectacularly noisy crash to the floor, cursing a blue streak in frustration as his cheeks flare red and he tries to sit up proper.
Off to a great start, Pyre.

GOTTA SHAKE IT OFF ( AFTER AUGUST 13 )
Getting back on his feet so soon might not be the smartest of moves he could do but he's gotta get back into the groove of things. A lot of things have changed and he's gotta catch up if he's gonna help the others out.
So off to the lab he goes, his faithful hound Daisy the beagle dog at his side as he walks a brisk pace. At some point he comes across somebody and he has enough manners to give them a nod of greeting but not much else. He's a man on a mission after all.
Daisy, on the other hand, has different ideas. The moment she sees the other person, she gives out a friendly 'bark!' and immediately trots over for them in hopes of getting a scratch or pet. To make sure they notice her, she even jumps forward, pawing at their waist or legs as a sign of greeting to them. Roderic has the decency to look surprise and a little embarrassed that she would just do that to a random person.
"-Shit! Daisy! Down." Now Roderic jogs over, looking kinda sheepish that Daisy that just went and jumped all over someone like that. "Sorry 'bout her. She's been pretty excited all week."

LEND A HELPING HAND ( TELEPATHY )
Hey.
Um. I don't use this thing a lot, yeah, because, um, not really my thing but- Oh yeah. Hi. Name's Roderic Pyre. Nice to meet you all.
Anyways- I was wondering if anyone needed a hand in anything right now? I'm at the lab and I'm just finishing some things of mine up now. Daisy's fast asleep so if you guys need a cup of coffee or something delivered to you, I'm at your service.
Yeah. That's about it. Ah, thanks for listening.

shake it off!!!
And this girl's no different. She can tell immediately that she's a good girl, and Roxy is more than happy to give Daisy all the attention she deserves. What a good dog. Good dog, best friend.
"Haha! It's okay, Rod-man, she's just sayin' hi!" She giggles and scratches the pooch behind the ears, earning herself a lick. After a tick, she looks up at Roderick.
"You doin' better?"
He'd been out of commission for a while... so.
yes!!!!
"She sure is. Daisy likes people 'cause one of us has to be a social butterfly. If you give her your hand, she'll give it a shake." He sounds pretty proud when explaining that. It's taken a lot of dog treats to accomplish and he likes to think its a treat worth teaching her.
But then Roxy asks how he's doing and he has to look a little sheepish here. He still feels kinda embarrassed that he just went out like a light as if someone turned a switch in his head off. For half a month too. Jesus. "Been doin' better now that I'm on my feet again. Sorry 'bout passing out like that."

"I'm glad you're feelin' better, hon... do you know what caused the coma?"
It was strange for sure. As strange as her disappearance into the Void without warning, swallowed up by vast nothingness for a week without rhyme or reason. She blames it on the broken state of her powers for now, without knowing any better. Just one more problem gnawing away at her from the inside out. The Void could be a real pain in the ass at times, but it wasn't the only culprit, here.
Little did any of them know the effects this place could have on them, on what felt like a whim. Not a lot in Roxy's life made sense, and this place made even less.

"Wish I could give you a straight answer on that but, honestly, I don't really know." Last thing Roderic remembers is that his head was going to cave in on him from the headache. "I remember thinking I really wanted to take a nap and... well... looks like I got that nap. Be careful with what you wish for, right?
"On the bright side it does seem like the whole nap thing did help me out. I've been thinking clear as day since waking up. Haven't heard a peep from the others with my, um, powers."
With Roxy he doesn't hear anything and he knows why, of course, but with the others he's been much more successful in keeping himself from picking things up and blocking out the signals so to speak. It's been such a relief. It won't be like that forever, he knows, so he's taking advantage of it much as he can get.
Plus it was kinda nice that he was able to talk about his powers with Roxy since letting her know about his. He knows, sooner or later, the others should know about it but for now he's gonna claim 'baby steps' for this.
August 13??? is this okay
Short of occasionally checking up to make sure the human's vitals aren't too low (as non-invasively as he could manage that) Don hadn't done anything to disturb him.
Still, hearing that crash, he can't help but be worried enough to check in on where his friend has been comatose - and he's surprised to see Roderic there, sprawled on the ground and looking rather cross.
"Rod! You're awake?!"
There's a mixture of real delight and some alarm on Don's face right now. It's a weird combination.
It's more than okay it's perfect! \ o /
His expression goes from being crossed and annoyed to relieved and mollified like the drop of a hat. He manages to get himself into a sitting position to get a better look at the fella, not wanting to be sprawled across the floor like the worst rug ever. His legs protests to the idea of him moving around and it shows with how he winces and hisses now and then.
"Hey." God he sounds awful and feels as awful with how his throat feels rough as sandpaper as the sleep leaves him be and leaves him more and more aware of his body. It feels awful for one things. He raises a hand, giving a little weak wave as a sign of greeting. "Wanna come over and give me a hand? Legs feel bit like jello."
eee awesome
Don says it lightly, but there's a serious undertone to the statement, and Roderic might notice the powerful ninja Turtle's careful when he takes Roderic's raised hand.
"Alley-oop -" And Don will be helping to lift Roderic now, assuming those Jello-legs don't give out on the man.
<3!!!
Roderic takes a sharp inhale of breath as he steadies himself with the help of Don. He only pins and needles with how inactive he's been and it's better than nothing. It's a helluva improvement considering when he had tried to do it by himself.
Welcome back to life under the sea, Pyre.
"Thanks. I owe ya." He really does. Call it intuition but he would have probably need to scoot across the floor for a while if he hadn't been given a hand. Roderic gives him a little smile of gratitude before taking a look around, surveying the changed surroundings. "How long have I been out, Don? Looks like I took a hell of a nap."
no subject
"It's no prob," he says, sincerely. "It'll be great having you back in circulation. What do you think happened? You were pretty much comatose for two weeks..."
Don's beak twitches slightly, a perturbed look in his eyes. "I couldn't seem to wake you, but your vitals weren't critical or anything. It's just like... like you couldn't wake up."
no subject
"Shit. Last thing I remember is wanting my headache to go away," because of my powers is the reason that isn't said. There's no need to since Don already knows about it. That was sure a talk. "Thought I'll get rid of it. Take a quick cat nap so I could get back to work, right as rain."
Which clearly wasn't the case. His head was still trying to wrap his head around that because two weeks and he frowns, unhappy and uncomfortable at the thought of losing that much time, that much progress. Looks like he has a lot of catching up to do. It takes a lot of restraint but he manages to hold back his sigh, not wanting to appear ungrateful to Don.
"... Seriously. Thanks for watching out for me while I was out cold and um. Making sure my vitals were safe." It was good to know he wasn't, like, dying or anything during that time.
no subject
He probably doesn't need to clarify that Roderic's abnormal sleep schedule isn't typical in the first place, but this is far beyond the pale even for that. Don knows what sleep deprivation is like. He's made sarcastic jokes about wanting to sleep for two weeks... he'd never thought anyone would actually live them out.
"If you want, I can take a better look at you now that you're awake... or just get you to one of the more qualified docs. Even if there's nothing overly wrong, being sure might be the best plan."
no subject
(The longest only lasted, if you're going to round it up, only seventeen hours. That's normal for sleeping hours. He's sure of it.)
It's only the offer to either check on him or bring him to one of the doctors that snaps him back to reality. Not in a good way too with how the hairs stand on the back of his hand. Something about the idea of a doctor poking and prodding at him not sitting will with him. He knows when Don says 'docs' he means a good person like Doc and Don wouldn't hurt him, not intentionally, but suddenly he realises the cleanliness of the room and the silence reminds him too much of the Garden and.
Hrmgh.
Less about the Garden, the better.
"I- I don't wanna bother them or you," he claims, trying to backpedal out of this one something fierce. "I just slept for a bit. Snored a storm and I'm right as rain. 'Sides being a little thin and dehydrated and stuff, I'll be fine."
no subject
Still, Roderic is in no shape to be pushing him, and Don doesn't feel like taking advantage of his weakness to coerce him into tests. Instead, he seizes on the last part of the statement, which is something he can help with.
"Between two mediocre cooks, I'm sure we can manage something passable. Want me to help you whip up some food?"
Trying a smile, in the hopes that it'll smooth things over a little, Don shifts his weight in a way that indicates he'll continue to be Roderic's crutch for the journey to the kitchen, if needed.
no subject
It, combined with his head being clear as day for once, was nice. He doesn't look as tense as they traveled to the kitchen, him not talking much as he tries to keep walking on his own two feet.
But by the time he gets there, he looks mildly exhausted for trying so damn hard. You know what? He's going to take up Don's offer of some help until he gets to a seat. No need to collapse and go into another coma. That'll be annoying for everyone around.
"--What happened while I was out?" Seems like a good topic to get into while he's here with Don. Catching up with everything is going to be his first priority. "Feels like a shitload changed while I was knocked out."
no subject
It's funny now, but it wasn't funny when it was happening. At least Jotaro was around to help make things easier to control.
"On a more serious note, Mikleo and Dirk dispatched a drone underwater, and that was one heck of a video. I'm not diving deeper than I need to for awhile until I can figure out contingency plans."
no subject
So… He looks over to one of the nearby walls, narrowing his eyes as if telling it to not do anything funny like cave in under the pressure and the impact of a coral breaking in.
He tests out his fine motor skills as he listens to Don talk, his frown only deepening it gets to the part of a drone's video. "Lemme guess, something dangerous is down there? From what I've gathered almost everything in this place is either dangerous or trying to kill us."
You know maybe he should have volunteered to do some good in Australia back home. The same circumstances but in a familiar world at the very least.
no subject
No matter what the kind of villain, Don finds that this is almost always the case when it comes to strongholds. They're strongholds for a reason, and something - quite possibly the key to understanding this place - is beyond that point.
"It'd be crazy to try it right now, though. The Shell Sub may not even be able to get deep enough, and her weapons won't work against all those Reapers. Seriously, you should see the vid. I've never seen so many of those creeps in one place."
no subject
He's thinking of how they can approach the situation - a group of course, armed, with a mixture of explorers and fighters - but then he hears about the Reapers being involved and.
No thank you.
"Just how many? Seeing that one Reaper after I first came here is more than one Reaper too many for me as it is." He winces at the memory, the fear he felt when they were all struggling to escape. That was not a pleasant experience so... yeah. Maybe avoiding that area is the best (and only) option they have for now.
The most heroic option? 'Course not but it's, at the moment, the most reasonable one for them to take.
no subject
Don exhales lowly as he walks over to the kitchen's refrigeration units, picking out some of the larger Sand Shark eggs which might scramble well enough. After some extra consideration, he fishes out some various kelps and whatever passes for spices he can cast about with. He frowns a little - where's Mikey when you need him to scramble an egg? - but eventually turns back to Roderic.
"On a lighter note: are you okay with some eggs? That seems like a good breakfast."
no subject
His stomach churns at the visual imagery he has of the Reapers and something... eating them while they act a barrier against the drone. Uncaring of their lives and unwilling to leave their formation even if it means being eaten alive by whatever else was with them. Which leaves a lot of questions in his head: Is the creature eating them against the Reapers? Is the creature trying to escape the Reaper Wall, as he knows dubs that image in his head, for their own reasons?
So many questions for this world. Sometimes, he wonders if he should have just gone to Australia if he wanted to volunteer and still be at risk of danger. At least in Australia he knew what's poisonous and deadly there if he looked up the internet.
"So something is eating the Reapers down there but they're not fighting back against it? At all?" That's some dedication right there. "Think they're being compelled to do it? Or it's of their own free will?"
no subject
He turns to look at Roderic, and shrugs a little. "It's hard to know for sure, though. They wouldn't tell us, even if they knew the answer. And Big Bad's definitely not going to say anything."
The Turtle gnaws the edge of his beak as he powders some of the spices into the beaten egg. Fish eggs beat differently than chicken eggs, he notices. "If we are dealing with some kind of mind control, then who knows if the leader guy can do that to us too?"
no subject
That is a sore point for him too. He left the Grove for a reason and he's just getting goosebumps at the thought of someone slithering their way into his mind and making him do things he would never do- Pardon him. He's just gonna shiver a bit where he sits, trying not to tip off his chair from the paranoia he feels.
Breathe, Pyre. No need to weird Don out with your strange tendencies.
"We'll have to get the upper hand just in case," he finally says, not wanting to leave Don hanging. "I mean- 'Course everything has an agenda. It's what makes them... living and sentient, I guess. Got their own goals, their own strengths and weaknesses.
Gotta find out which ones could benefit us out while we're here."
