[ HEY. so are you feeling better after your sickness? done submitting your designs for URSULA's potential new body? well, i have some news for you! after some adventures, a new biome has been discovered.

... like, a couple of weeks ago actually, but karkat has finally decided to actually share that he discovered this new biome? because he kind of wants to explore it but knows it's a Dumb Idea to go alone. so this afternoon, everyone will be receiving a telepathic message. ]

Hey assholes, I found some new islands that look interesting or something. If you want to come along meet me in an hour at the front entrance. And bring your dive suits. It's all sort of underwater. Now hurry the fuck up, I don't have all day.

[ if your character decides to go along to this very politely worded invite, then they are going to be checking out some islands similar to floater island except. underwater. they're close to mountain island, which means it's more or less a three hour trip out to get to them so that is a thing. there's also a new species they'll run into called bonefish and many fins, and both look super friendly. a piece of the aurora has also landed here.

[ karkat can be found staring at a small group of many fins (URSULA, get better names???) because they are just... so ugly? he can't believe how ugly this fish is. he almost wants to like, reach over and try to touch one of the weird things coming out of their heads? is that fish hair?

so. you may see karkat attempting to slowly reach over to like, touch one of these things without it noticing. he's a child. ]

[ OR!!! you can spot karkat in the air bubble in the aurora wreckage, sitting down and going through a datapad with the most annoyed expression ever on his face. ]

Oh my fucking god, I get it. You miss your stupid dog. How many times can you write about it, holy shit.

[ he's still going through it though so. he really can't be that mad about it. ]

[ nearby, rose tosses him a glare. this guy is always in a bad mood, isn't he? ]

[ what a grump. rose has been sorting through the wreckage, too. there's a lot of useless crap down here, broken objects of questionable origin and such, but occasionally she'll come up on things like journals, old pictures, jewelry (she's looting those, she's not that good a person). digging through everything doesn't seem like a waste of time, at any rate. ]

Wait, aren't you technically supposed to give datalogs to URSULA before reading them?

[ not that she wouldn't do the exact same thing, but does karkat need to know that? ]

Okay, but there's a line between sentimental and dramatic. And I'm sure the dog is being better cared for than whoever this is.

[ since, you know. the person who wrote it is most likely dead? they're probably definitely dead.

when she brings up URSULA though, karkat just rolls his eyes. ]

I will give it to URSULA first after she unbans me from her coding. And since that is probably never going to happen, then I get to read this first.

I didn't do anything! There was just an issue with the communicators last month and everyone wrongly blamed me for it? Even though there was no proof that I did it. And then she banned me from doing any type of coding!

[ he gestures very angrily throughout all of that. also, it was completely his fault and he had infected the communicators with memes. it has only been very recently fixed but that was a thing. ]

I will reiterate that it was definitely not my fault at all.

[Rin needs a break from swimming (a shocker), and emerges from the water like a stupid beast in one of the stupid mermaid suits. he's trying out the different tech, recently, compensating for his early-development fighting skills with increased protection]

How's the suit? I never tried that one. [ BECAUSE IT LOOKS STUPID. ]

It looks and feels kind of stupid, and the AI in it keeps calling me Todd.

But it boosts my swimming about 80%, and something tried to bite me and got a load of metal tail instead, so, I guess it's doing what I wanted it to. There's also a spear, which is helpful in telling the sea life to keep swimming.

[the process of taking the suit off is as equally as stupid as swimming in it. give him a minute, as robotic things whir and move off his skin to reveal -- another, thinner diving suit. he wanted options]

Anything come up about the mission yet, or is it another passage about weird stomach cramps from campsite leftovers?

[ karkat only laughs a little while watching rin struggle to take it off. and by a little, i mean a lot. it's hilarious.

he shakes his head at the question though. ]

There's a fucking lot to go through, this person does not know how to shut up? And as someone who has written a fuck ton of memos, I definitely know when someone is longwinded.

[Kanaya's been keeping an eye on Karkat the whole trip. She gets that 'awww look at my son' look when she sees Karkat reach for one.]

Do you want to bring some back? I am sure the Magister would not mind their company much.

This thing kind of looks like it would eat the Magister.

There is always just making more tanks. No one can really protest if you collect the materials yourself.

[That would be bad yes, so maybe just get their own tank.]

[She'd be pretty disappointed if she heard Karkat slandering the name of someone's poor lost dog. Luckily, Horō's instead here to intervene before all of his nutrients get absorbed by some particularly hungry, devouring tentacles.]

It seems if you were to provoke it too severely, you'd have to stop your research.

a: grappling hooks

[ like 30% of her visit to the underwater islands will be spent messing with these once they're found. it doesn't seem to take annabeth long to figure out how to use an underwater grappling hook, but she proceeds to practice with it off and on, casually figuring out how to use it to more quickly travel between floating islands.

it's kind of fun, but gods help you if you swim in the way: ]

[ annabeth will otherwise be spending her time mapping the area. sure, maybe there's software to do it automatically, but she seems to like using the waterproof tablet-thing she's got, making specific notations in ancient greek with her stylus.

she seems particularly interested in the lava vents and the floating islands themselves, for some reason. ]

[ luckily, Kei is also pretty interested in the lava vents and islands too! Mostly the vents because they're really bright? Well, to be fair, this is his first time exploring the depths of the ocean... Quite the experience seeing the ocean in general because that wasn't a thing he did much, you know.

but yeah, he's just peering down into the lava vents though there's not much to see when you're so far away from them... ]

[ he may have kind of glanced over the shoulder earlier but he can't read ancient greek SO-- ] Do you think it's worth checking what's down there? If it's possible, at least.

[ annabeth just thinks they might be useful for building projects in the future... ]

We shouldn't get too close to the vents. The water's probably really hot down there, and neither of us is wearing proper protection for that.

I think it might be useful to know where these are later, though, when we ARE properly geared up.

[ D.Va's casually swimming around, looking at all the fish--it's the first time she's been in this area, let the girl have some fun! But all good things have to come to an end when suddenly, giant metal thing comes flying in her direction. ]

Ah-!

[ Luckily, her reflexes allow her to swim just barely out of its way, though her heart's definitely pumping. That was one heck of a close call. ]

[ if annabeth sounds annoyed, it's mostly at herself. stupid! ]
