1. ACTION: how did it even get in here? unsolved mysteries
2. VIDEO: please help the not so eminent doctor mathis
[ jude wakes up in the med bay, but he doesn't even have time to think about how much his head hurts because there is a monster on top of him, making high-pitched screeching noises right at him and what the hell is happening, he can't process any of this because a beak is pecking at him.
with one eye squeezed shut in response to the noise, jude realizes two things after his initial panic: it's rather small, and it doesn't seem aggressive, seeing as he is not actually getting hurt. whatever the problem is, he has to calm it down before figuring it out. ]
Okay, okay, okay, okay, hold on-- look, I'm not going to hurt you, see?
[ with a sudden glow, the monster starts to distant itself. it gives him a chance to realize that the sounds are pained, so he glances around-- where is he, even, but he'll focus on that when he has more breathing room-- and... oh. is that an IV cord wrapped around its foot?
well. that explains that. sighing with relief, jude very carefully reaches to grasp the cord, giving the monster a small nod, as if it could understand his reassurance. poor thing. it glows again before the monster gives him enough space to start untangling it, the screeching slowly dying down to a small whine. it's nothing difficult, and before he knows it, the chomper is hopping down and allowing jude to prop himself up with another sigh. it looks a lot smaller when jude isn't panicking, and its glowing is almost hypnotizing. he can't help but feel a small pang of guilt, even. ]
There. You're good. Go ahead and... um... yeah. You're free.
[ so just like that, it's gone. jude has no idea why there was a monster in this doctor's office-- wait, why is the office pink-- in the first place, but if anyone happens to wander in here to get some rest or some peace and quiet, they will see some stray feathers and a shaken up teenager in a lab coat just sitting there and scratching his head, desperate to come up with a logical explanation. ]

[ a little more than a day has passed; enough time to realize that this is not elympios and his train not only got off at the wrong stop but the wrong planet entirely. he has no way of contacting his best friend, or anyone at all for that matter, so it looks like he's alone until he can manage to work out a solution. if there is a third schism no one told him about, he will Not be happy with maxwell.
jude has spent almost all his time sorting through all the tools in the med bay, both genuinely interested and attempting to avoid the urge to panic by keeping busy. he's never seen anything even close to all this stuff, and when he has the focus, he'd like to go through such advanced tools a second time. he can't keep up the social recluse act forever, though. that's not him. he has to reach out eventually.
when he does, jude does his best to look and sound much calmer than he is, the epitome of patience. professional. ]
Sorry to interrupt, but I sort of have a request. Before anything else, my name's Jude Mathis. I'll just try to get right to the point.
[ he presses a finger to his temple before clearing his throat. jude is pathetically easy to read when he's nervous. ]
Is there anybody who happens to spend a decent amount of time hanging around in the laboratories? Being a doctor has kept me thoroughly distracted with the med bay, and I've kind of been... way more of a shut in than I should be. Back home, I prioritized my work as a scientist, so I imagine there must be plenty of other things to explore in the labs, but to be honest, I'm just... sort of lost? I can tell there's a colorful group of people living here, though.
[ a brief pause before his lips curve into a small, awkward smile. ]
That wasn't an insult. Uh... the point is, having a bit of guidance from someone who's been here longer than a day and a half would be nice. Calling this whole thing overwhelming would be an understatement, but navigating this place means I can try do something productive, and I'm good with science.
[ he sighs, clearly exasperated, much more expressive than before. he hopes the library has textbooks and stuff? he needs textbooks. all this technology is too much to take in all at once. ]
Anyway, perhaps this is all a little naive, but regardless, thanks for listening. I know I'm the one asking for help here, but putting that aside, let me know if there's anything I can do on my end. I'd rather be helpful than sit around and panic. So... right, I think that's it. Thanks aga--
[ jude stops mid-sentence and realizes that there's another thing he'd might as well just ask, because it's killing him? ]
-- No. Sorry, just one more thing. Why is the med bay painted pink? Obviously, the amount of innovative equipment is what matters most, but I admit I'm kind of curious. Okay, I'm... done. I swear.
[ the screen goes black. jude knows he tends to ramble, and sometimes he just isn't as much of an adult as he tries to be. ]
