a. a graceful landing

[ if you are outside at the base island today, you might see something unusual. well, more unusual than normal? this place is weird. but up in the sky, you will see one redheaded teenager and a troll with robot legs just... flying on an anti-tank rifle, following one of URSULA's drones. they seem to both just be chatting, not paying any real attention

which is their downfall because it means that the girl (izetta) does not notice when she steers them right into a goddamn tree. they both die the end. no, they just both fall off the rifle and crash onto the ground. at least they weren't that high up! care to go check on them? ]

b. you saw nothing

[ if you were not around to witness tavros and izetta eat dirt, then you can catch them both wandering around the base, clearly new as they don't seem to know where they are going.

izetta is carrying her rifle and tavros for some reason has a hole in his shirt where his chest is and it also seems to be (bronze) bloodstained? how weird! maybe he hit that tree really hard. anyway, feel free to help them out, they are dumb teens. ]

[ karkat really isn't too sure what to say here. he and tavros weren't extremely close, but karkat still basically blames himself for everything getting completely fucked over on that meteor. he isn't exactly sure how to voice that though.

[ izetta had been confused when zelda said a machine that can think and feel, but then she kept talking and what? ]

Um, excuse me! But what exactly do you mean about a different world?

He's still smiling, but it's a stiff smile. One that had him looking away and back to the water immediately to take a deep breath.

Then he's looking back. Angry. Because it's not right and he shouldn't be the one who - did he did? Or did he just fall here? He's not thinking about it. ]

[ ... Sighing. Just looking down at his feet, then back to the schools of fish swimming by.]

And I thought... For some, stupid reason, that I could stop her.

Oh I'm not. Simply that none has happened, which is quite nice considering our circumstances.

Can you explain those to me in more detail?

Well a lot of strangers, and small separate groups are stuck on an alien world and have to live together in close quarters.

[ there is a small pang of something inside karkat. he isn't sure if it's pity or some other emotion that he is pretending really hard doesn't exist. but he can fully understand where tavros is coming from, since karkat also once thought that he could be the one to save the day and singlehandedly defeat whatever boss battle got thrown at them that day. ]

Vriska is a raging bitch who has fucked up... actually, she was the root of a lot of our problems.

[ although she seems to have turned over some new leaf, but it's hard to completely ignore all of the shit she has pulled over the years. people can change but they don't usually change that much. ]

I mean, even if you didn't stop her it was still [ give him a sec as he tries to figure out how to word this without fucking up ] brave of you to even attempt?

But! I think we all get along rather well. There's a lot of amazing things people have made too!

[ He lets the silence stretch on a little, mulling over the words.

Rufio was fake. Fake than fake. The kind of figment that even he didn't really believe in, it only made him worse to think of it -- but Rufio was strong, and brave, and noble and kind and good at everything he tried. And instead, here's him.

And he thinks, what bugs him most, is that she gets to live after it.

After everything, Vriska gets to keep on living.

But that's typical, isn't it. He opens his mouth, still tense and full of some kind of emotion he wants to vent and vomit out -- then his shoulders slump, the fight drains out of him like water through a sieve. If there was anyone who he could vent these feelings to, he's pretty sure it's not Karkat "stop playing games for girls, asshole" Vantas. Instead he does what he does best, shove the unpleasant feelings down as far as they'll go and focus on something else. ]

Anyway, uhh, this place is pretty great. All things, considered, really.

[emotivational]

[ WHAT A GREAT BIRD. Tavros laughs and pats it gently. ]

Have, you been here long? Or, uh, are you maybe, from here?

That, also, uhhh, sounds really nice, actually.

[ Yeah. Actually, that sounds like the best idea he's ever heard. ]

[ karkat normally would have paid no attention to the abrupt topic change if he wasn't currently dating someone who loved to do them, so he tries to keep an eye out for things like that.

he doesn't know what to do with this one though. dealing with the dead trolls is always awkward, but they've all reacted to the news differently. when he spoke to feferi about her death, the two of them just immediately started shit talking eridan. he has no idea what to do here though? especially since he isn't entirely sure what the fuck tavros' actual opinions on vriska are since he never really cared enough to know. ]

Did they tell you about all the shit that wants to eat us?

[ so. he just goes along with the topic change. ]

[ she immediately looks right back up at him. ]

This whole place is amazing! I've never seen anything like it before.

Oh, well, uhh, no. But, most I guess that's not, uh, usually a problem for me.

Well, most the people here won't know you, so you can be whoever you want to them.

It is! It's very science fiction, isn't it? And this is only the base. The world is rather amazing as well, if you like the ocean at least.

I don't really mind the ocean, but...

[ izetta shifts the weight of her rifle, frowning slightly. ]

How long have you been here?

[ ... huh. now that karkat thinks about it, he wonders if tavros could actually reason with them? or. whatever it is that he does who even knows it's not like hs explains anything ]

There's also some AI that may or may not have gone rogue that's somewhere on this planet? And even if it didn't, the two of us might be fucked since it's programmed to protect humans only.

I've been here about... four months? I haven't really been keeping track.

I can't stay here for four months!

[ just one month is pushing it? she looks a little frantic now. ]

Oh, well... there's not much that can be done. And others have been here for six or more.

Ah! But, I don't think time is very important, so, if there's something you have to get back to... it's probably fine.
