[It's a new year! Well, by the fragile construct of calendar time we're creating on this planet, anyway.

Here's a an open mingle for all your January needs! Are you trying to stalk our new alien stalkers back, or reach out to them, or fight them? Building? [The question catches him off guard and he blinks dumbly for a second.] Uh, I dunno. Guess I never really thought about it but I don't really plan on retiring.

[ then is he just planning to die in the line of duty because - okay Kenma reel it in, that'd be a dick question to ask. ]

Oh. That's too bad. Retirement is the dream.

[Not so much planning as just assuming it's inevitable. But that's way too dark to say to someone he just met, even if it's not really a big deal to him. Whatever, he'll just make sure he goes down in an awesome blaze of glory, no biggie.]

Maybe if you've got like an office job or something, but superhero life? No way. You know the ladies love a guy in uniform. [He pats the "S" crest on his chest proudly.]

You've got one, right? For your team or whatever? You know it's the truth.

[puddinghair]

Uh... Oh. [ he's not touching the rest of that, this sort of subject is x10 awkward for him, but-- ]

Yeah, we've got a uniform.

[Right, they were talking about the volleyball thing before the whole 'death is inevitable' thing!]

So you never said, you any good? [He's grinning good naturedly when he asks, honestly curious.]

I lived in Hawaii for a while, used to play on the beach all the time but never seriously or anything.

[ She ducks her head and smiles. ]

If I can save someone, that'll be one step towards superherodom.

You've been plenty of help so far. But--here, hang on, let me get you a map.

[he gets up and goes to dig through a stack of papers and books off to one corner. after a few seconds he brings back a large map of what the biomes look like so far and circles the access point for the lava vents]

You can scan this and it'll save in your communicator, but it's a little easier than trying to type in coordinates. I can go with you to take a look later, if you don't plan on going right away.

The peace only lasts so long around here. Not that it's a bad thing! It keeps us busy. I wouldn't mind if it was peaceful though.

[splasher]

[PLAYING GAMES IS JUST AS IMPORTANT KENMA!!]

Sometimes? I guess... but, we have actual superheroes in base, so sometimes things aren't so urgent, I suppose you could say.

[puddinghair]

[ superheroes is an exaggeration right...... he'll just let that go, ok. ]

Yeah, I heard I showed up at a bad time. [ He migrates naturally to the shelf to start looking over the games selection. ]

[puddinghair]

We're pretty good.

[ oops that was a 'we' not an 'I.' He is pretty good, even apart from his team, he'd like to think, but. Habit. ]

I think if I were in Hawaii I would want to relax more than play.

[splasher]

It's been better. You just have to be careful. If someone says it's best to be on the island, then you follow their lead, okay?

[pauses, and waits for kenma to look around for a bit]

See any you like?

[puddinghair]

No problem. I'm more of a follower than a leader to begin with.

[ Hmmm... He taps at a couple boxes here and there like he's making a mental note of them. ] Plenty. There are also a lot I've never heard of.

[splasher]

It's probably a good thing that there's plenty of time for you to get acquainted with all, then. Go ahead, pick one. You've got to get started somewhere.

[ He does as instructed, giving the map another once-over once he's done. ]

If you could, that would be helpful. However, I think a larger team might be helpful. I can travel quickly, but it might cause a mismatch in speed.

[ That, and he's not actually as durable as he would seem and it's a little risky. ]

Have you? .. I apologize or not greeting you sooner, then. [ If she would've known that she was new, she could've helped her to get used to this place... ]

How does it feel to be outside of the base for the first time?

[puddinghair]

[ hmmm! he looks over the selection a minute longer, then pulls a game from the shelf - one he hadn't tapped earlier. After a moments hesitation, he holds up his selection: some generic mascot racing game. ]

Do you want to race?

[ is this how you friends??? is that presumptuous???? kenma is doing his best ]

What do you plan to do, should we have a longer period of time that's peaceful?

Well you already got the cool uniform down.

Yeah? [The 'we' makes sense so he doesn't question. 'sides, it's nice to see a guy give credit to the rest of his team. Not that Kon would know anything about that.]

Relaxing's alright but it's really about the surfing, you don't get waves like that just anywhere! You ever tried?

I don't have the coordination for it, probably...

[ He has good hand-eye coordination, but honestly his athleticism leaves something to be desired. Also... Think of the effort... ]

It's a really old uniform. I guess it's a good thing it stands the test of time.

Yeah, well if you ever wanna give it a try me an' Rin—he's stuck here too—figured out how to make some boards.

So how bout that game? [He motions toward the ball and winks. It's been a while since he did something low key and fun like that and he doesn't even care that he's probably going to get his ass handed to him.]

Huh, wouldn't've thought it was that old. [Maybe she's a legacy hero??? He doesn't know how heroes work in her world.]

Oh yeah, what's this for? [Because he just remembered he's holding a giant bunny in his other hand.]

No need to apologize. I did not come expecting to be introduced to everyone within a day, especially with how I arrived.

[ She still remembers her first day fondly. ]

It feels... hm. [ She ponders for a moment. ] Refreshing. I've kept myself busy in the kitchen at the underwater base, however... this is a nice change of pace. I haven't done much besides that.

[ Which makes her sound like a loser. And that's because she is. ]
