action or telepathy / mission #2!
[ early in the evening, everyone will get a little tingling in their brains as Korosensei decides to test out this wide-range telepathy thing. The concept isn't new to him, but its actual existence outside of science fiction is; it's going to take a bit of getting used to, no doubt. But it could be very useful once mastered.
They've got work to do, besides! ]
Testing, testing... Hello, and good evening, everybody! This is Korosensei speaking. With any luck, all of you can hear me right now! Don't we have such exciting technology in this base? [ he speaks with the ease and clarity of someone very used to talking in front of an audience, although he still has that sort of annoying lilt to his voice. ] You may be aware that our hostess has a job for us to do - a dangerous one, too. Radiation poisoning is quite a serious thing! I'd like to gather anyone who's interested in solving the issue Observatory #3 to trade ideas, if you please. It's imperative that we all learn to work together here if we want to stay safe! That will be all. This Sensei hopes to see many of you there.
[ and, indeed, he'll be waiting exactly where he said he would. Those who have met him before doubtlessly found him hard to forget; those who haven't will find themselves facing a yellow-skinned, octopus-like creature, easily breaking nine feet tall and with a grinning face, wearing what looks like a graduation robe and cap. Of course. Korosensei is standing there patiently, tentacles linked politely in front of himself, and he greets anyone who actually comes. ]
Wonderful! Sensei is relieved people are truly interested in not being irradiated. It's an unpleasant experience. Really. [ as if he has experience?! ] According to URSULA, there's a radiation leak coming from that downed ship, the Aurora. Well, there are multiple ways of solving the problem, and I'm open to hearing each and every one of them! However, my recommendation would be to seal the breach at the source somehow. The most effective type of shielding is generally heavier metals. Therefore, Sensei's suggestion is to cannibalize another part of the Aurora to use as shielding. The tricky part would be obtaining it... Well, I'm immune to radiation, but, um... If it can be avoided, I'd like to avoid swimming as much as possible...
[ then why are you here, sensei... ]
A-anyway, a penny for your thoughts!

action;
She's never died by radiation poisoning probably.Except when she gets there.
She comes face to face with a 9 foot tall yellow octopus-like creature and she's Full Of Regret.... Maybe she's really not cut out for this sort of thing after all????
She's staring, and she doesn't realize that he's looking at her until he asks his question, and it's so teacherly that she snaps to attention immediately after years and years of schooling.]
U-um, I...! I don't know anything about radiation, but... um... there are a lot of different sorts of people here, so maybe...if we all work together...?
[Well done, A++ suggestions by Mai.]
action;
There's no way he's sending this sweet young lady into a radioactive shipwreck. But it's the thought that counts. Korosensei responds in a warm, reassuring tone. ]
You're absolutely right, young lady. In fact, that's precisely why I reached out to the entire base. If we all put our heads together, we should be able to solve this problem easily. [ if it wasn't for all this water, he could probably solve it by himself..... but there sure is a lot of water. ] Even if you don't know much about radiation, there are things you can do to help. We'll need to collect more materials than just scrap metal.
no subject
So, tentatively, she smiles a little.]
Oh...right. [That's!! Something she can do!!!
Probably.]
Um, what else do we need? I'll be happy to help however I can!
no subject
Fortunately, the most difficult part of the problem - getting near highly radioactive materials - has been solved already by Korosensei himself. It shouldn't be a problem for him to get near the cores of the ship. ]
We'll need some way of welding or sticking the parts together. Perhaps some kind of strong adhesive can be crafted from the materials in the ocean here?
no subject
Ad...hesive?
[She feels as though her learnings have not prepared her for this... but also she really can't remember if her learnings have prepared her for this, so maybe the school system can be forgiven.
She doesn't really want to disappoint, though, so she pauses to think hard on that, lips pursing into a small frown.]
Like... glue from fish parts? [That's a thing, right??? Fish glue???]
no subject
Hmmm. Fish glue... That's creative.
[ but she's not wrong! Korosensei nods her head. ]
Certainly, fish have collagen in them that can be used to make glue. But I'm not sure that would be strong enough to bind metal parts together. Then again, these are alien organisms that even I am not familiar with. Maybe the research group will be able to help us.
no subject
[SHE WAS GUESSING--
...A-ahem. Yeah. she totally knew that. (She didn't.)]
But um... if not fish, what else is in the ocean? ...Seaweed...? Can you use seaweed to make glue?
no subject
[ her mention of seaweed earns a brighter approval from him, however, his slippery skin turning orange as a red "O" marking fades into being on his face. Yes, he changes colors, too. ]
But seaweed is certainly a much better idea! Algae has certain polymers that are naturally adhesive. If we grind it down and combine it with other material, we could make a tough material to bind our metal together.
[1/2]
[2/2]
U-um...!
T-that's...that's good to know! [If her voice is a little squeaky, it's because he just changed colors. That was freaky.
BREATHE, MAI.]
So... so if we collect a lot of seaweed...
no subject
Yes. If we collect algae and combine it with something else - some sort of fibrous material, perhaps - we could make an adhesive. Figuring out the second ingredient is something I'll leave to you.
[ gotta let his students do some work, too. ]
By the way, what's your name?
no subject
Before she can even properly process that, he's bringing up a very relevant point, and her eyes widen, hands coming up to clasp in front of her heart.]
Oh! I'm sorry, I've been rude...
[Quickly, she'll bow properly, because she is a polite young miss!]
My name is Mai. It's very nice to meet you! [That much, she thinks, is true, even if he is kind of scary looking and does change colors.]
no subject
Now, now, there's no need to apologize! You weren't being rude, although Sensei admires your good manners. It's nice to meet you, Mai-san.
[ he wiggles his tentacles in a manner that could be interpreted as cheerful. ]
Most people call me Korosensei, but you are free to call me something else, if you'd like.
no subject
Korosensei...?
[???]
Are you...a teacher?
no subject
[ is she happy that he's a teacher, or upset? He's going to hope it's the former. The fact that she recognizes him as a teacher in the first place makes him pretty darn happy, which is quite evident on his face. ]
I teach third-years at Kunugigaoka Junior High School.
no subject
SHE THINKS THAT'S GOOD?]
I see...
[It's been awhile since Junior High School, but... he seems like he's a friendly sort of...octopus thing. And she's partial to teachers, and education, and he seems reliable, which is a relief to have her--so after a moment, she smiles.]
You must be a very good teacher, Korosensei. I mean... I think you just gave me homework.
[HOW TEACHERLY.]
no subject
at last, she finally stops looking scared and smiles. Progress! Soon enough, he'll be an average sight for the people around here. Hopefully. Being called a good teacher warms his heart, as well, even if she's only basing it on a few minutes of interaction; his skin turns slightly pink. ]
Nurufufu... Thank you, Mai-san. I'm just a rookie. [ what a good girl. ] You can think of it that way if you like. But this is more important than just a homework assignment. This is solving a real problem in our world!
no subject
But this is true... they are solving a problem in their world, and that's something important. She bows her head quietly, nodding simply.]
That's right... I really want to be able to help however I can. [She hesitates for a moment, before--] I don't...know if I can do much here, but I really want to try! So--um, if there's anything else, Korosensei... I'll do whatever I can.
