Arrival!

THE AURORA was once a sight to see. An impressive mining ship, home to many, it could travel across great interstellar distances while providing all the comforts necessary to those within. Its star-sailing days are over now, as it now is a terrible wreckage, with salvage and dangers for those who come near.

It’s also exactly where the new crew members just showed up. URSULA will be immediately sending the on-base crew towards the Aurora, while those who have just arrived have some time to explore. The Aurora, however, isn’t the safest place to be. There are some large creatures in the water, and they may not be friendly towards the crew…

Below is a timeline of events as they unfold, with some further information!

Timeline

1000: THE AURORA
While the new crew may have arrived anywhere throughout the ship, many will have found themselves in the common rooms, surrounded by the comforts of those who once lived here. Those who choose to wander further may find many rooms throughout, often in varying states of decay. While there are smaller predators on the Aurora and the danger of a wrecked vessel, an unsettling peace pervades the crashed ship. For now, they are safe.

1030: THE BASE
At 10:30 in the morning, URSULA reaches out to all crew members with an urgent message:

”All crew members please report in immediately! Life signs detected on the Aurora! Please stop all other activities and begin rescue mission. Gather any supplies you need, use the vehicles and help any survivors you find. Devices are near the entrance to track life signals once you're on the Aurora. If they're safe, please remember we need to salvage what we can from the Aurora as well. The supplies will benefit any survivors as well.”

Get cracking, crew! Base and Biome have information on what kind of weapons and defenses your fellow crew have had.

1100: THE AURORA
Thanks to the transportation they had built, the base’s crew is able to arrive in record time. They can help seek out their new crew members, take the opportunity to explore more of the Aurora, or just sulk in the transporter. URSULA reminds everyone that salvaging is a key part of their mission, and they should gather what they can before returning to base.

1200: THE AURORA
The crew however only gets an hour to enjoy itself (?) in the wreckage. At noon, URSULA broadcasts to all present, new and old:

”Attention! Dire warning! Reaper Leviathans! According to what I've salvaged of my database, they're apex predators from the westernmost region of the ocean. One signal coming from the west, two others coming out of the Void from deep below the ship!”

The crew may try to evacuate, but it is probably better to prepare for battle or hiding instead. They won’t get enough time to get out of the way before…

1210: THE AURORA
The Reapers are here. Peering out one of the Aurora's entrances will reveal that they are already circling around the vessel, as if they realize something is inside. One even beaches, its entire, 160 foot body soaring through the air before slamming down into the water. It almost feels like a warning. A threat.

URSULA urges the crew to stay inside where it is safe, but if anyone does insist on charging forward, she advises them to split into teams and take on as many Reapers at once as possible to avoid any group being teamed-up on by multiple Leviathans.

NOTE: To fight a Reaper Leviathan, comment under the REAPER FIGHT THREAD comment below! We ask that you work in teams of two or three for the battle to keep threads organized and minimize the number of fight threads the mods will need to work through. Be mindful that these are extremely fierce, dangerous, fast, giant apex predators, and they are very likely to do damage against those who fight them! By tagging in, you are agreeing to put your characters at risk of injury from the Reapers. As URSULA advised, those who don't want to get hurt should hold back and wait.

1300: EVACUATION
Things are looking grim. While the crew's teams make a good fight of it, these Reapers are durable, and they just keep coming back for more. It seems they're on a mission, to stop the crew, no matter how battered they become.

That's when the bellowing starts. Coming from everywhere, a song like that of the cavalry that disorients the Reapers as a large pod of Reefbacks swim in. Several put themselves between the ship and the Reapers, allowing anyone on aboard to safely get into the transports and into the water.

Others begin to fight. The use the concentrated power of their songs to knock back attacks from the front, powerfully lashing their tentacles like whips to crack against the Reapers. In battle they're surprisingly agile, able to spin around in a moment's notice to alternate between confusing and attacking the Reapers.

But any crew members watching can see the toll it takes on the Reefbacks. One Reefback in particular chooses to guide the crew back to the base by swimming along aside them. Thick, dark blood trails in the water behind it but it beats off any curious smaller predators like Stalkers. But its shell is cracked, its 'face' smashed in, and it gets no further than the Kelp Forest before it settles into a dense patch of creepvines for a final rest. It sends out a final cry that somehow feels like a wish for the crew to keep going on to the base, away from the continuing battle.

The rest of the pod manages to drive the Reapers back, though they too have their casualties. Still, the Aurora and the crew are safe for now.

Perhaps that was their only wish.

Sanson manifests into the Aurora with a flash of light (or at least, that's how he remembers it). He's about to open his mouth to enquire for Master's orders, but then his eyes actually adjust to the low light and notice that she clearly isn't there.

No Matthew, no Jing Ke, nobody. Sure, maybe the transfer process split them up, but the sheer lack of any living person in this room is unsettling him a little. Would it be another wasteland like the burning Fuyuki Master and Matthew traveled through? ]

Hello? Is any person there?

[ He raises his voice, starting to move through the enclosed spaces to look for answers. ]

[ As soon as they're back at the base, Sanson will be asking around for the medical room. You might chance him coming upon you with this question, looking strangely urgent (a far cry from the calm stoic face that he's put on so far): ]

Excuse me. Is there a first aid room, or a medical supplies storage in here?

[ He's kept some things from the Aurora, but he doesn't think it will be enough. Once he's got his things settled and proper, he'll make another round, this time pausing whenever he passes anyone to scrutinise them. If you're visibly injured, he'll have a hand on your shoulder in no time. ]

Come with me. I will tend to your wounds.

[Merrill is tired by now but as a squishy mage - a powerful one but still a mage - and got herself hurt while fighting off a particularly vicious group of Cave Crawlers.

She blinks at the hand on her shoulder and looks up.]

Oh, are you a healer? I think we're going to need a lot of them around here...

[ Right. She said 'healer', probably expecting someone who can just magic away her injuries with a wave of their hand. Unfortunately, he's not that kind of person. Those duties are better left to Casters such as Medea Lily and Tamamo. ]

No. I am a doctor. It is not the same, but I will do my best.

[ He can tell she's not human, but she seems to be injured in a way that was similar to a human damage response. ]

[dirtharama]

Oh! A doctor, sorry. I'm used to less... pokey ways of healing. Not that your way isn't good! It's very good. I just haven't seen a doctor before and--

[Oh she's rambling that's rude.]

Sorry, I meant that I'd be honoured. I'm just a bit tired, ignore anything weird I say.

[Not that it was really any worse than half her time in Kirkwall but still, it's been a strange day.]

Shout like that and no one will want to answer.

[ The dry voice came from a room over. It had an indoor yet watery sort of timbre, like the person was speaking into partially submerged metal - which was exactly the case. Valentine was crouched at the edge of a ruptured room, watching the way the alien flora moved.

It wasn't precisely her thing, but she was mildly interested. Unlikely as it was that something like this would help her take down Marie and her bosses, you never knew what could make new poisons. ]

[ Well, a reply is better than none. Even if said reply is clearly sarcastic, it's one he can take. It means he's not alone.

He makes his way over to where Valentine is, heavy boots clacking against the floor. ]

Who are you?

[ It's probably not the best question to ask right now, but it's the most blunt and that's how he generally rolls. Not to mention that it had a lot of implications, depending on how Valentine answers. ]

[ Valentine pushed herself to her feet, careful to make her motion look stiff rather than fluid. He was shorter than her, but the coat at least made him look wider and more stocky. Not much to go on, especially when a quick glance at his hands and eyes didn't show much. Not from her world, almost certainly. ]

A new crew member, [ came her dry reply. She gave a wry smile. ] Nurse Valentine. And you?

Um... yes, there are some supplies I think.

[Not that she knows very well herself, but... she's trying here, okay. She just fiddles nervously with her hands, before tilting her head in the direction they should go.]

They would be this way.

[ He hasn't exactly been paying attention to the entirety of Mai's face, but as soon as they make eye contact and she speaks there's a flash of recognition in his mind.

She reminds him of someone, her eyes. However, he collects himself a moment after, because it's easy to tell that she doesn't have a Servant signature. Then, just a human, then. ]

Thank you, young lady.

[ He follows, and after two seconds asks a question. ]

What is your name?

[The question's a little abrupt, so she's a little surprised by it, but even so, she's quick to face him properly, bowing her head since that's the best she can do as they walk.]

Oh... I apologize, that was rude... um, my name is Mai. It's very nice to meet you.

[As he starts to move inside, he can see a blue clothed guy standing by the wall. Arms crossed, Lancer starts to open his eyes. It seems that he just finished relaxing for a bit. That red eyes of his points out to Charles, as he seems to be confused. Lancer has a feeling something is different about this guy. It seems they are both similar, but he doesn't know how.]

Aye. Never seen ya aroun' before. Who are ya?

[ Well. Isn't that a familiar face - except this Lancer doesn't seem to recognize him. Perhaps it's another timeline thing that he still doesn't quite understand. ]

Servant Assassin. And you, you are Servant Lancer, yes?

[ He's unarmed for now, but he has no way of telling if Lancer will attack him on sight. ]

[Second time. This is the second time another servant recognizes him when Lancer cannot even recall meeting them. Even more...]

Assassin, huh?

[Lancer takes a few steps forward, staring at him with menacing eyes. It seems Lancer is being cautious right now, because he can't tell what this guy will do.]

Listen, I've never seen ya before, if that's a problem. I have no intention of fighting useless battle whatsoever, but if you do come here to challenge me, I will not hesitate to go all out.

[True. What happens with the last servant was quite shocking as well as Lancer recalls she put most of her noble phantasms before him. He hopes this guy won't do the same thing.]

[ bruised and battered during the frantic travel back to safety, roderic was going to live. with some bruises on his person that'll last for a while, sure, but he'll live. (the bruises and the soreness will remind him to watch where he's going as he follows a reefback to safety next time. sigh.)

he's inspecting a particularly nasty bruise on his arm when approached and asked about first aid. looking up to address the man more properly, he frowns in thought while trying to remember the layout of the base and, more importantly, the rooms they have. ]

... I- No. Not to my knowledge. Didn't have the time to, I don't know, set one up or something. [ he looks away for a second as if trying to recall something useful. ] I managed to find some plants that could be useful for medicinal purposes though. Want me to get them for you? For the others?

[ Not to his knowledge - well, if even the veterans don't know, then he'll have to improvise. At least the environment here looks sanitary enough, unlike the war grounds that he's had to traverse with Master and the rest.

And then his eyes fall onto Roderic's injuries, bringing a slight frown to his expression. ]

That would be good, thank you. But - how are you injured? I can help.

[ No use overworking someone who already needs rest. If anything, he's suffered less structural damage, so if needed he can get it himself. ]

Got banged up during the trip. Not the worst I've gotten myself into.

And I'm- [ not interested in being touched by other people right now. sounds like a warzone around me. that doesn't sound very polite.

best to stick with the classics when you're meeting someone for the first time. ] -Pyre. Roderic Pyre. I'll live so maybe we should focus on the others who need help ASAP first.

[Fukami's lingering around the entrance to the base, his arms folded over his chest and his tentacles gathered close to his legs as he watches the new arrivals. There's a vague, passing thought about what will happen now, if they'll be able to house them all comfortably.

They'll just have to work harder on the base itself. It's about here that Sanson addresses him and he turns his head to look at him.]

...Yes. We've been using the laboratory, for the time being.

[But he'll gesture with a tentacle for him to follow and begin leading the way.]

[ Really, the only reason Sanson barely bats an eye at Fukami's appearance is because he's seen worse. Generally. ]

Thank you. [ The people here have been very helpful, that he can appreciate. It's much better than being faced with hostility like being dropped in the middle of America. ] Could I have your name?

[ Fukami looks like a stoic person, that he notes. If they are going to work together, then perhaps he could pick this guy. ]

[octoroom]

[It's 100x better than the I DON'T BELIEVE YOU'RE REALLY AN OCTOPUS he got earlier.

Fukami doesn't hesitate to start leading the way, glancing back over his shoulder briefly. He's gotten more used to those younger people, especially the higher energy kinds. Could it be? A fellow stoic?]

Fukami. And yours?

[Sorey is looking for someplace to sit and treat his injuries once they make it back, but he's startled enough at someone offering to tend to his wounds that he actually looks around first to make sure that Sanson wasn't talking to someone else.]

Oh--sure, if you don't mind. Aren't you busy settling in?

[ The gesture is noted but not commented upon. He's not that good at reading people yet. ]

It's fine. Healing you is more important.

[ With that, he starts leading Sorey to the lab, where he's set up base. ]
