Sleep Study | Backdated to like... June 2nd or something hahaha | Open
June 2 - Waking - Telepathy/Action - Primarily for Peridot (but mun welcomes threadjacking)
[Yeah, so Dirk said that nobody should try to be a guinea pig.
Don's never been good with taking that kind of advice. Right now, the dreamscape's making him anxious. What he doesn't understand, he wants to. Normally, he would ask his brothers or his sensei to spot him, to try to reach him on the astral plane - or he'd have them volunteer to be analyzed in his stead, knowing Leo - but he doesn't have that option here.
He can't stay awake forever. He already is having trouble foregoing sleep without coffee.
However, he knows someone who doesn't have to sleep.
So a certain green Dorito is going to get a telepathic message, maybe poorly directed to her because this Turtle is tired:]
Hey, Peridot... can I ask a favour?
[She'll find him in the lab eventually, arranging his cot within range of what passes for their medical bay. Maybe someone else there might wanna know what the heck he's doing?]
June 3 - Sleeping - Action
[Comfortable in the knowledge that he's got someone watching his shell, Don can get to taking in the weirdness of the dreamscape. Everything seems to thrum with life, and on an instinctual level the Turtle feels more at home here than he has almost anywhere else. The ocean is welcoming him.
It feels as if his brothers and his master are with him too, in some capacity. He feels their voices reaching out to him, from the ocean's depths. Even knowing he's asleep, it comes off as achingly real.
If you're wandering around near the base in the dreamscape, you might notice Don floating near it, frowning deeply at the yawning scar left on the seabed.]
So this dream world, or whatever it is, has a smoking wreck where the base is supposed to be. What does that mean...?
June 3 - Waking - Audio
[Comfortable in the knowledge that what he learned about the effect of the dreamscape on their bodies means it's safe, Don makes an announcement.]
Hey, everybody, I've got some good news for anybody who's worried about this weird dream world. [That means you, Stork.] It doesn't seem like it affects our waking bodies any more than a dream normally would.
[A beat.]
It still feels like it's really happening, though, which basically makes it virtual reality. Even if it's not really going to hurt you, I wouldn't pick any fights with the Reapers unless you want a very convincing illusion of pain.

[ So, he's not Jude? The voice sounds exactly like his, but coming from a large turtle. Lifting up her stuffed doll, she partially covers her face from both embarrassment and for the doll to serve as her mouthpiece.
She can't bring herself to form words at the moment, allowing Teepo to talk for her. The purple and pink doll's mouth gapes open, speaking: ]
Wah-hey! It's like Jude's voice is coming out of a turtle suit!
no subject
Trying to tone down his own defensiveness, Don shakes his head a little, trying for a somewhat gentler tone.] I'm Donatello, and definitely not who you think I am. [It's one hell of a coincidence that a human sounds like a Turtle, though.]
no subject
[ She answers like having a talking doll is completely normal, which is kind of true for her since he was her only friend for the longest time. But that doesn't really matter right now. She should apologize.
She lowers the doll to uncover her mouth, hugging him against her chest. ]
But I'm sorry. I thought you were my friend from Rieze Maxia...
no subject
Unless your friend is a giant Turtle, that's surprising. I'm usually pretty hard to mistake for anyone else...
[The question is evident in that far-too-familiar voice, especially as Don drifts closer to look at Elize.]
no subject
Teepo on the other hand, is more watchful with his ears twitching, staring at Donatello as he gets closer. She probably shouldn't rely on the doll to communicate, but once again, she is: ]
This is Elize and I'm Teepo. You sound just like our friend, but Jude doesn't strike me as the sort of guy to wear a turtle suit! Does everyone look like you where you're from?
no subject
... Right, he should stop watching and start giving an answer.]
Not everyone. [It's a vague enough answer to work for the moment.] There are definitely other humans, but I can't say I've heard of "Rieze Maxia".
no subject
Oh? [ Elize finally pipes up from behind her doll. Teepo's still blinking and wiggling his ears. Definitely lifelike. ] Where are you from then?
no subject
Have you heard of a city called New York? [Don is going to guess 'no', but it never hurts to be sure.
As he asks, he pushes off from the seabed, scattering silt from the ocean floor. Swimming feels... normal enough, perhaps even easier than usual. Interesting.]
no subject
[ If he hasn't heard of Rieze Maxia, she assumes so. The stuffed animal wriggles around excitedly, his smile growing wider. Both are letting their imagination run wild with turtles roaming cities...
Opening her arms, she allows Teepo to drift away from her. The plushie bobs up and down, cheerfully making circles around Elize. ]
Wah-hey! I wanna go to New York! A city with talking turtles and humans! So cool, Elly!
no subject
So tell me about this 'Jude'. I'd like to know about a guy who sounds like me. Maybe he's a tech geek too?
[Don hopes so.
And voice actors tend to get typecast a bit...]no subject
[ Which was probably only several months ago when she was still on Rieze Maxia. Teepo pipes up after her: ]
He's studying to be a doctor and I'd say he's way more of a spirit geek!
no subject
[All these alternate universes are starting to get commonplace. Don's never had all of them coexisting in one place before, though; that part is new. He also reminds himself that chi healing is possible in his own world; it may not be as uncommon as he would have thought.]
no subject
[ Other methods used without channeling used a device called aspyrix and spyrixes. It's not commonplace in her part of the country though. Only recently she became aware of the technology.
Teepo can't help but brag about his best friend. ]
You gotta real good at channeling mana to cast healing artes! Elly's especially super talented!
no subject
Is that so? I wonder if her powers still work in the dream world... I haven't tested everything, and it could be interesting. Would you mind trying that, Elly?
no subject
[ Teepo stops circling, pausing by Elize's side. ]
Y-yes, sure...
[ She stammers for a moment, for some reason. "Elly" is actually a nickname that only Teepo and her best friend Driselle uses. But despite only meeting Donatello just now, she doesn't mind. One of her wishes is for more people to call her by her nickname.
Turning away, she faces the opposite direction from Donatello, to keep him from floating in the line of fire. Channeling mana has always been easy for her, but even moreso in the dreamscape. No incantation necessary or calling out the name of the arte. She sticks her hand out and a large vertical glyph appears before her, purple and black energy surging out. It looks like it could be very painful if there actually was someone standing within its way and a lot of power coming from one tiny girl.
After a few seconds, the spell disappears. Hopefully that was a good enough demonstration. ]
no subject
Maybe he will someday. He's definitely distracted by that incredible-looking attack, such as it is. The beam of energy lances through the water, purple and black and seething. He'd expect the water to boil or something.]
... Whoa. I'd say that works, alright!
[Immediately making a mental note not to piss Elize off, like, ever.]
no subject
Normally an attack like that would take some energy out of her, but it doesn't in the dreaming world. If she wanted, she could keep casting her spells nonstop. Luckily she's the type not to just fling around magic carelessly for no reason... be glad she's one of the good guys. ]
Channeling spirit artes like that usually takes a little longer.
Yup! It usually takes a few seconds longer and chanting some fancy shmancy words!
no subject
I'll have to see if other magic users have an easier time here too... you said you were practising with Merrill? Was she saying the same thing?
[The magic probably isn't the same for everyone. The chi-powered magic spells that the Tribunal could perform in Don's world are different from these artes... though, Don has to acknowledge some clear similarities. Magic is one of the things he doesn't understand well, but maybe there's a pattern.]
no subject
Yes, she was having an easier time. She made this really neat arch of fire!
no subject
So whatever the dream world's made of, it helps magic powers out. It doesn't seem to be good for technology, though... especially if the base's condition is anything to go by.
[All of this points towards a very anti-tech bias. URSULA said something about the planet being sentient on some level...]
no subject
Um... are you trying to find something to use for the technology here? Talking to you really feels like talking to Jude, Donnie.
[ Teepo doesn't mean anything "bad" with his additional commentary. The doll seems amused, grinning. ]
no subject
[Yes, he's taking notes... as best as he can while asleep, anyway.]
