Uh, hello! My name is Makoto-- I know I'm rather new to this place, but I couldn't help but notice...

[this is going exactly where you think it's going; makoto sounds a little distressed and surprised that this is even a thing that is happening at all]

Are we really going to manage alright with just one toilet in the entire base...? There's quite some people here, and perhaps it should be one of our priorities to try and build to meet demand?

[exasperation: how could you guys let it come down to this??]

I--I don't know exactly how, but we can build things, right? I wouldn't mind working on it if I get some guidance on how to go about it!

ACTION

[makoto will be found by the main entrance, wearing his provided wet suit. it's been about a week since the new arrivals made it to the base after the whole incidence in the monolith. that being said, with the dizzying effects of the void song out of his system at last, he can think clearly, but is not any less scared of diving into this ocean for the first time.]

[you'd think he could do more, being a swimmer and all.]

[taking a deep breath, he tries to inch away the anxiety that consumes him in the face of large bodies of water, to accept this reality as not necessarily a dangerous nor scary one. which is why he'll be encouraging himself outloud:]

Alright, everyone's been out swimming already. [definitely not shakily] It's just the shallows, so it'll be fine... There's nothing to be scared of...

[ With her helmet under one arm, Valentine stalked towards the main entrance. She was fairly sure that she was mostly in control of her movements in the suit, but practise made absolutely perfect. She'd had twenty seven years to get used to moving in her own skin. Two months wasn't a huge amount of time in comparison.

As she approached, she caught sight of the boy and wind of his nervousness. A small smirk crossed her lips. ]

Everything in the Shallows is passive, yes. Though I wouldn't get close to the gasopods. [ She came abreast of him, and was surprised to see they were the same height. Hm. Must have been his back muscles that made him seem so much more massive.

Anyway.] The algae in their tails is a bit corrosive, and they're jumpy.

[don't just sneak up on a guy like that! but even if valentine wasn't sneaking up to him, makoto gets worked up regardless and nearly jumps out of his skin.]

[don't mind the rather pathetic squeak from this bulk of a guy; he's still getting used to things here.]

Ga-gasopods? Are those fish? The fauna here doesn't seem at all similar to the one back home...

[Lymle was planning on giving the swimming thing more of a try now that she was no longer wanting to swim forever thanks to that weird song - she's got her wet suit on and wand in hand, all ready to go - but getting to the entrance and noticing a guy talking to himself is enough to get her to stop. She stands behind him, listening to him encourage himself, before tilting her head.]

Are you bad at swimming?

[That's the logical answer here. Why else would he be scared?]

[dear lymle, when you go up to people like this and interrupt their sad monologue, all you will manage is to spook them... which is what happens to makoto; a pathetic squeak of surprise and a straightened back later, he turns to the girl with a hand over his chest, as if to calm himself down.]

N, No, it's not that... I do know how to swim!

[this does very little to help his case, really]

I'm just not used to, [to what? he pauses for a moment, glancing at the window to the outside of the base] to swimming in the ocean, I guess?

Some of the others might be working on that as we talk. Though might take a while since that'll mean new piping and everything.

[ even a complete rehaul of the system if it comes down to that. he isn't too sure himself and will need to check in on the others if anyone is planning to do something about that. (a certain someone comes to mind.)

all the same that'll probably mean the period where they might not have a toilet during upgrading will… be an interesting experience for everyone.

remembering his manners, he adds with a note of apology in his 'voice': ] Sorry about the surprise by the way. Guess one of us should have warned you new ones about it when you got here.

[a reply! huh, so this really does work after all... what a strange new setup he needs to get used to (but it's pretty convenient, if he has to be absolutely honest with himself)]

It's good to know there's some work being thought for it... Even if it takes a while, at least it'll get started at some point rather than leaving it off to when it becomes more difficult to handle as a situation.

That's what I think, anyway.

It's fine! With everything that's been going on, I think I would also forget about something like the base's toilet. It almost seems kind of silly to consider this is a problem in the first place, which I find is good under the circumstances!

[ Gokudera's irritable— more so than by default. Between lack of nicotine and no lack of new information to discover, his energy's all over the place. It's taken exercising an extreme amount of self-control to not blow through his cigarettes in one sitting. And on the same token, it's taken self-preservation not to overextend himself, now that the strange feeling from the Void Song has dissipated. In summation, his baseline level right now is sort of pissed. ]

There's so much going on and you're worried about where you can take a shit?

[ Well, Hotaru can't say she doesn't want more toilets. In fact, she'd prefer more private bathrooms somehow, but she's never felt she could ask these kinds of questions (since she's 12). ]

We've managed okay so far. I haven't been here the longest, but I don't think everyone uses the toilet.

[Andrew is standing near the entrance as well, also clad in his own wet suit. When he sees the other male hesitating at the entrance he leans against the wall and watches him try to psych himself up with a bemused expression.]

Either go out or stop blocking the door. Unless you need an encouraging push?

[Except...a push from Andrew would be anything but encouraging.]

[his words may be out with an ounce of confidence, but the way his body language goes about the matter totally shows that he is not that confident--nor ready--in leaving base.]

However he's not going without Makoto either, hence why he'll stand right next to his friend with his hands on his hips, thinking about how they can tackle this problem.]

[ yuri had just finished a swim when he notices makoto. The way he's afraid of going out swimming kind of reminds him of someone else. Huh. ]

If you're thinking of going you should just go. Nothing is going to jump at you right when you leave the base.

[Sorey spots him hovering by the entrance and can't help but overhear him talking to himself. He doesn't want to intrude, but...well, he can't just leave Makoto alone either.]

Want to come out with me? It's always safer to have a partner.

[makoto wonders how come he hadn't thought of this before--of opting to go out with a partner, afraid of the ocean or not. clearly that was the most logical way to go about this. (well, he knows why, but he doesn't want to think too strongly on being alone, as it were.)]
