[ If Scott had to choose a way in which he'd wake up on another planet, completely cut off from his home, his family, his pack, then being licked by an eager dog is most definitely his welcome of choice. He's always been fond of animals, and as frazzled as he is (largely convinced this is some strange nemeton-induced hallucination), the presence of a dog by his side, barking and pawing at him does wonders to calm his nerves.

At least until he notices the glowing eyes in the rest of the room, his heart promptly freezing in his chest. Because the thing is, that while Scott loves all animals, the feeling is most definitely not mutual.

It's only thanks to his werewolf senses that he manages to react in time, hearing the first warning growl and how many eyes is that even, before he's scrambling to his feet and getting the hell out of dodge.

He bolts through the door, barrelling into the hallway with no remorse. ]

Sorry! Sorry, sorry!!

Oh, sorry.

[ It's all gone so wrong.

There's probably a map on the device that URSULA had given him, and he's young enough to be able to figure out these newfangled gadgets, but he's still here, slumming around blindly like a plebian. Which means that he's made about five wrong turns into the kitchen while carrying all his stuff. It hadn't been so bad until the mattress had decided to inflate himself the moment he'd stepping into the fork and knife loaded space.

And now he's desperately trying to manoeuvre around the kitchen without his mattress destroying everything that stands in its path. (Another pair of mugs go clattering toward the ground.) ]

Oh—I'm really. [ He winces. ] Sorry, I didn't mean to trap you against the wall.

[ Or maybe he did; teenagers are kind of the worst. ]

[ ... That was a joke.

Scott's surprise had been so genuine that it takes a moment to vanish, and instead a small grin breaks over his face, sheepish and a little amused at his own cluelessness. ]

Oh. Yeah, of course it was a joke.

[ It's not like Scott thinks this guys is some wild that raised pets to kill and eat them.

He looks down at the bird, and then back up at the man, a bit more at ease. ]

I could just sort of understand, if she got as big as you. That's a lot of meat.

[ Bravery isn't always a choice either, Scott thinks quietly as he watches her, feeling the shift in her body language. At least that's how it feels to him. Like being a hard worker isn't always a choice; a necessity born out of circumstance, and the inability to deal with the consequences of not stepping up to the challenge. Scott's more afraid of being haunted by guilt.

But those are his experiences, and he knows that what a person presents can be quite different from the reality. Chihiro seems considerably more put together than any other little girl that Scott might know, but he shouldn't presume. ]

Sure, I can do with a sandwich or something. [ And a hamburger, and pizza, and fries, and pasta, and everything because he's a teenage boy and he's perpetually running on either an appetite for food or sex, and his libido has shut down for the foreseeable future.

He follows along after her, casting one last glance toward the wall where he'd banged his forehead. There's a slight smudge there. ]

Would you mind telling me a little about this place?

[ She hasn't seen The Little Mermaid? Scott stops for a moment, wondering if that, among the abduction and futuristic technology and alien spells, is the weirdest thing he's encountered so far.

But anyway.

Tucking his mattress away, he squints a little at Eve, looking puzzled. ]

You mean she's not an AI that's trying to take over humanity?

[ Typical.

Scott gives the girl a small smile, grateful for the information before - ]

Underwater monsters? Are they like, the result of some lab experiment gone wrong?

[ What. Where did that kid come from?

His senses feel like they're working overtime trying to categorize the new smells around him, but Peter doesn't seem dangerous so Scott takes his help without question, springing back to a standing position, the scratches from the cats healing instantly over his skin while the furred menaces scramble around frantically at his feet. ]

Yeah, I'm - [ fine.

He keeps his hands up, backing away from the little beasts and trying to look as non-threatening as possible. ]

Cats don't really like me.

[ But he does have one friend, and the dog that had been licking his face inside the med bay comes yipping out, determined to help and herd the cats. ]

[ Everything is ten thousand percent not all right.

Scott is pretty fast, but he can't just bust out his full speed in a cramped and unfamiliar hallway, so the cats catch up with him pretty easily, scratching and clinging at his ankles, which is mostly hazardous as the werewolf does his best not to step on any of the creatures. It sends him teetering this way and that, looking pretty idiotic (standard) until his shoulder jams into Makoto's chest and he's falling and the cats are swarming and nothing is okay.

Except! In that moment. When the annoying dog yips happily out of the medbay to help its new friend, trying to herd the cats away, while Scott manages to grab onto Makoto's arm from balance to keep from faceplanting into the pristine floor. ]

Hey— sorry.

[ An ungodly mrowr yowls through the air and Scott, the alpha werewolf that he is, wisely decides to haul ass before he's drawn into a Westside Story-style street fight with a gang of cats.

He is, at least, considerate enough to haul Makoto along with him as he escapes. ]

What's up with those cats?!

Oh.

[ That's a pretty standard reason, and not as adventurous as he was expecting. He thought it might be something like space exploration and the search for extraterrestrials.

But then, it's nice to hear something that doesn't involve blood and death, so he just grins, body language relaxing somewhat. ]

How'd you like it? Did you have to like, watch lots of human TV to figure out how to blend in?

[ Like her life is some kind of sitcom, but he's wearing a cheeky smile nonetheless. ]

Uh huh, just a couple of hours apart. I'm really lucky, without Ed here it would have been a lot harder to get settled.

[He keeps clomping down the corridor, having no idea that Scott could possibly hear that he's hollow or the lack of heartbeat from inside the armour. He thinks his secret is pretty safe.]

Is there anyone here you know too?

[ His smile turns a little cheeky, quirking at the corners. ]

Oh, bein' a big fella, I'm good at wrasslin' other big meat.

[ she's trying to catch up with all the shows. ]

Not at all. [ she actually can speak with some confidence over this, her voice strained from something (flu? exhaustion?) or not.

after all, ada and her had been taught the dangers of artificial intelligence in college. ] If anything, she wants to help humanity. There's… some things happening here as we speak but perhaps we should talk about that later while we get you more settled. It's a lot to take in as you can see.

[ Blood and death successfully avoided. ]

Oh, you have no idea. My foster sister made me marathon Disney movies in one weekend.

[ Chihiro keeps a smart lead, slowing down after a moment when the lack of rush and the short distance re-registers in her mind. She breathes out in a sigh, brushing the hair back off her face. A small, quarter-sized furball pokes above the edge of her collar, staring up at Scott from beyond the sanctuary of Chihiro's ponytail. Soon enough, the furball is hidden once again. ]

I don't mind. I'll answer your questions as best as I can.

[ She pauses, glancing back up toward him over her shoulder. The furball appears again, this time to pop up and reach out with a tiny, tiny paw to pat Chihiro's chin as she speaks. Idly, she reaches up and wiggles a fingertip for the rabite. ]

I'll warn you, most of us can talk mind to mind once we get here. It's in URSULA's vaccination for when we first arrive or something like that. If you hear someone talking in your head, talk back before deciding if you're crazy or anything.

[ She's sincere in this bit of advice, for all it sounds like she's being absurd. The kitchen opens up before them as they walk on, nested tables closed, counters mostly clean. People and drones have kept the base in fairly clean condition. ]

I'm not sure how much bread we have. Do you mind seaweed wraps?

[ Valentine is a cute name, and Scott wonders if she's named after the saint or the holiday.

Anyway. ]

I woke up? [ Is the most that he can offer. ] I guess I was in their nest?

I don't think so. [ He answers without really thinking about it. ] I can't really smell anyone familiar.

[ Never mind that Alphonse has no idea why Scott would be able to smell better than any other person. ]

Everything's a little overwhelming, but I'm sure I could pick one of them out.

[ Scott smiles back, not exactly warmed to the stranger's presence, but at least appreciative of the humour and ease. ]

That's your choice, right? This place comes stocked with food? Who provides it?

[ Slipping back into an interrogation. ]

[ He doesn't really want to talk later, mind working fast, hungry for information and solutions. There's an itch under his skin that just wants to get this entire experience over and done with so that he can get back to where he's supposed to be.

But he's already assaulted this woman with questions already, and he needs to keep his cool regardless of how agitated he feels. ]

Yeah, it is. [ His answer is distant, turning to face the kitchen around them, the entire place unfamiliar. ] Could you tell me how she wants to help humanity though?

[ He smiles a little, knowing that he shouldn't really trust someone that he's just met but.

He's still guarded, but not closed off. ]

Disney's pretty basic, there's no way you'd fit in without it. [ He gives her a look of understanding. ] Have you seen Star Wars?

Seaweed...?

[ He scrunches his nose a little at the thought. Scott's lived in California his own life, so it's not like he's not vaguely aware of Japanese cuisine, but he also happens to live in the boonies: Beacon Hills, population 30 000. Sushi always seemed like some fantasy food that rich people ate anyway.

They're not even talking about Japanese food right now, but seaweed doesn't really appeal to him. ]

Uhh, I guess. What about rice or—

[ Wait a minute. ]

Wait, hold up. [ He stops, fixing her with a puzzled squint. ] Everyone here has telepathy? So someone could read my mind?

Could nae tell ye. Folks go out huntin', the weird magitek voice talks sometimes... part o' the mission, better feed me to do it.

[ She smiles faintly. ]

[ She raised her brows at him. ]

Funny. They're normally irritatingly sweet.

---wait, you can smell people that are familiar to you?

[What the heck is that all about?]

Do they not wash very often, or something?

[Jade ponders this for a moment before she answers.]

I don't think so. I think they are just native to this planet. But I guess they could be lab experiments from a really long time ago? I have not studied the biology here very much yet.
