[Sorey and Mikleo have pretty much been sleeping like the dead for the past couple of weeks, following their accidental fight with the Dragon; their breathing is steadily, and they don't seem too debilitated by the long nap, but they also, worryingly, won't stir out of it.

until now -- both of them start to come awake at the same time, turning onto their sides, one of them letting out a queasy sort of groan. this is not an entirely pleasant revival.]

sorry if we worried anyone we accidentally got in an argument with the dragon again

we don't recommend doing that by the way. it looks like we were out of it for a couple of weeks. did we miss anything important?

Well, depends on your definition of crazy? I mean, we've mostly not gotten into any new trouble?

[there's a notable pause as Sorey takes a bowl of broth from Mikleo, his eyes sliding back over to Dave and his eyebrows arching upward. that's totally ominous.]

I'm okay with talking, but if it's okay with you I'd like to know why it's something that needs to be kept secret too. Is it something bad?

[GETS DAVE A BOWL TOO and then settles down with his own with a nod, this seems like a thing they need some fortification of food for, anyway]

Because I'm telling everyone next month, but I wanted to tell a handful of people in advance just to like. Get them prepared for the announcement? Dirk thought it was a good idea, to tell people who'd like, not flip.

Of course. The Kharaa are the ones who are at war with Earth, and the reason the other ships came here looking for a planet to live on.

You found something to do with them, I'm guessing?

[that would explain why Dave's nervous about telling people...he just hopes the next words out of Dave's mouth aren't 'I'm a Kharaa now.']

...actually, considering how alarmingly they were introduced, that's a lot better outcome than I'd ever imagined if we were going to run into them...

I don't mind sharin'. I was kinda just flyin' around at random because of unrelated shit [ I.E., HE WAS AVOIDING HIS BROTHER, LIKE A MATURE ADULT ] and found this dude I call P Diddy about to get like killed by some cave crawler things? So I helped him out and just hung out with him and kept visiting. I did not actually know the Kharaa thing was a thing until like, after we met.

[ since p diddy never attempted to make dave into a host. like, he offered later after they learned to talk to one another BUT HE TOOK DAVE AT HIS "NO THANKS"... ]

Which isn't to say if it's safe for everyone else to visit yet? Dirk went with me once and it was ok, but I'd want Rose to greenlight me on like. Everyone else.

It might be a bad idea to startle them with too many people without warning, especially with the war going on. We wouldn't want them taking it as a sign of aggression or anything like that. Everyone here is pretty friendly, so we have that going for us, but since we haven't heard a lot of good things about the Kharaa I can see why you wanted to keep it quiet.

Did you ask Rose about it yet? The, uh, green light.

I wonder what brought them here in the first place...if it was an accident, or if they were deliberately aiming for Iniidae. It's--good you were able to open relations with them on that level.

And--yes. I mean...I'm sure they'd pick up how wary people were if everyone went there in a big group...

I asked Rose, but she's still doing her seer thing. She'll let me know what's up asap. Until then, uh, I guess mostly...I wanted to be sure other people were down for finding a non-hosty non-war happy ending? I know Naoko may not approve, but like...Rose seems to think it's possible we can work shit out.

As the largest, uh, colony? On the planet, I think it's safe to say we're all pretty against bringing a war here. Or continuing one here. I'd prefer an ending without war or all of us turning into hosts, so if we can reach a compromise with them I'm more than happy to.

Mm. I think if you preface your explanation to people with, well, the things you just told us, the circumstances and the fact that negotiating something peaceful with them may be very possible...it should be all right. Some people may yell, but...really, I don't think the people on this base are warmongers or anything. Surely there's a way to take it slow and build up the trust that's needed.
