[It's a new year! Well, by the fragile construct of calendar time we're creating on this planet, anyway.

[The first day he was here he managed to check out his cousin before he knew she was his cousin, it was traumatizing and he isn't sure he could have lived with himself if he hit on Hotaru too.

His eyes grow wide at her transformation even though she's already admitted to her identity and he shakes his head in disbelief. Don't worry Hotaru, you can join Kon's "Screw Secret Identities Club." He is the founder and only member.]

I'm good. And it's cool, no big. Sailor Saturn? So you're like one of those superheroes in your world you were tellin' me about?

[ Hotaru nods, but it's hesitant. ]

Yes, I'm like them but not exactly. It's... something I'm still trying to figure out. Sailor Saturn isn't supposed to appear often.

[ The memories of the Silver Millennium are still a lot to bear, and she's drawn the logical conclusion that she's not the usual kind of superhero. ]

Oh yeah? [There's a hesitance in her voice that makes him think maybe this is a little personal and maybe he shouldn't be asking so many questions.]

Well I can tell you this, you definitely look like a badass superhero. [Shit, he probably shouldn't say ass in front of her!] Uh, I mean, kick butt! Um, anyway...[Laughing sheepishly.]

If it's something new for you, let me know if there's ever anything I can do to help. I could totally be like your superhero mentor or something.

[ A faint blush rises to Hotaru's cheeks. Badass is a concept she never thought would be—could be—applied to her, but here is someone else calling her that. ]

Th-Thank you. I don't if I am... [ Badass. ] But I have some memories of a past life. When I was only Sailor Saturn. [ She pauses, looks unsure, looks down at her hands. Is that too much to say? ] Does that sound believable?

But I think I could use a superhero mentor. [ Teach her how to be less doomsday. ]

[Believable?] Maybe somewhere else talking to someone else, it wouldn't be, but here? [He shrugs.] I'd say we're all pretty far past the realm of believable. If you say it happened then it happened.

[Then with an excited smile.] One super rockin' superhero mentor coming up! Wow, I've never been a mentor before, wanna start now? [Start...what?]

[He grins and sets a hand on her shoulder.] I won't let you down, Hotaru.

[ Hotaru has to laugh at Kon's enthusiasm. It's infectious in its own way. ]

Sure, we can start now.

[ Not... that she knows how a mentorship starts since she's never had one. ]

Thanks for believing me, and I believe you'll lift me up.

Hey, I knew you had the heart of a hero from the moment we met. I'm just here to help you be who you already are. [To his credit, it's not an exaggeration. All that desire to protect those around her and that tendency to put too much weight on her own shoulders? Yeah, sounded like most heroes he knew.]

You've already got the hard stuff down. I don't know a lot of people as willing to help others as you are, Hotaru. That's really special.

[ Kon, stop??? Hotaru doesn't know how to handle and take in all that praise. She ducks her head, and she wants to cover her face with her hands. She can already feel her cheeks heating up. How red she must be.

Isn't it only natural to want to sacrifice yourself for others? ]

Thank you, Kon. You believe in me a lot, but... I don't know. I don't know about myself. What if I make the wrong choice when I use my powers? I know there are certain ones I wouldn't use unless absolutely necessary... one of them I hope to never use, if I can help it, but what if I wait too long for those I can use? I don't want to be too late to help someone.

[ She never thought she'd hold so much power in the palm of her hand until it happened. ]

[It's really really not.]

Well, those are all really good questions. Maybe that's the sorta stuff we can focus on, yeah? I bet you'll be more comfortable with your powers once you use 'em more, at least some of 'em. [From the sounds of it she might have some that shouldn't be used until absolutely necessary but he'll have to figure that out later.]

Did I ever tell you much about Superman? He's the guy I'm a clone of.

You've mentioned Superman to me a few times, but I don't think I've heard a lot of details about him. Is he that great of a hero?

[ As for being more comfortable with her powers, she stays silent on that. Shields, ok. Astral projection, ok. Killing, not so ok. ]

He is. Thing is, he has some powers that are pretty crazy too. I'll be honest with you Hotaru, it's a real good thing he's one of the good guys. He ever decided to work for the other side, well. It wouldn't be pretty. [He's quiet for a moment as he imagines a world where Superman is evil. It's not a good world to imagine and he doesn't dwell on it long.]

If he wanted, he could level cities in minutes. Probably take out a whole planet if he was determined enough and had the time.

But here's the thing. He's not a bad guy. Just 'cause he has powers that could be crazy destructive doesn't mean he's gotta use 'em that way. Instead, he's the best hero my world's got. So whether your powers are like his or totally different, it doesn't matter what they are, it matters what you do with them.

[Hey maybe he's not so bad at this mentor thing???] Why don't we consider that lesson one.

[ Kon isn't so bad that this mentor thing!! Hurrah!!

Hotaru lets that sink in, and she nods—slowly. Well, she's no Superman and won't ever be like Superman, but it does help put things in perspective. ]

It's a good lesson one. [ She smiles a little. ] I have to be wise about how I use my powers. I try not to be a bad person, so that at least... is in the right direction. [ She won't go into detail about how with some of her powers, it's all or nothing, but... ]

It is a good thing Superman is a good guy, and it's a good thing we can learn from him. I'll do my best not to level cities or take out whole planets. [ That's Hotaru, trying to inject some humor. Trying is the key word. ]

[That last part gets a chuckle out of him and he tousles her hair because that's definitely going to be a thing now.]

See, you're picking this up no problem. [Kon winks at her.]

You'll be an awesome superhero in no time.

[ She ducks her head and smiles. ]

If I can save someone, that'll be one step towards superherodom.

Well you already got the cool uniform down.

It's a really old uniform. I guess it's a good thing it stands the test of time.

Huh, wouldn't've thought it was that old. [Maybe she's a legacy hero??? He doesn't know how heroes work in her world.]

Oh yeah, what's this for? [Because he just remembered he's holding a giant bunny in his other hand.]

It's prehistoric. [ It's not like the Silver Millennium is written about in the history books. ]

Oh. [ Hotaru laughs, and she points at herself. ] It's for me. There's a claw machine on the Narcissus, and I like bunnies. It'll make my room homier.

[ Some 13 year olds may say they're too old for stuffed animals, but Hotaru is not one of them.
