Let's start by going that way!

[The Loftwing takes off; they're in the air fast and soaring up towards the mountain. Zelda smiles and looks back at Max.]

Having fun?

[She laughs and can't quite manage to tear her eyes away from the view even as she's answering.] Definitely! I've never done something like this before.

Is this, like, seriously something you do all the time or something?

Yes! My Loftwing likes having company on his flights. It isn't fun at all if he doesn't have someone to share things with.

[So BRING A BUDDY TO SKY DAY IT IS! She's amused by Max's reaction, and happy about it. She giggles as she steers the Loftwing closer to the mountainside so Max can see the peaks sweep by.]

[Loftwing... what a cute name.]

Guess I can't blame him. It's a lot more fun if you don't do these things by...

[And she totally, totally trails off when she gets a good look at the sight in front of them, OH BOY.]

Holy shit, this is beautiful.

[A warm smile spreads over her face. She gestures for the Loftwing to slow down and let Max have a longer view.]

Isn't it?

Yeah. Definitely.

[She turns a smile on Zelda now, looking a little embarrassed here.] Thanks. For, uh, doing this.

You don't have to thank me! It's fun getting to share this with you.

[It's genuine; happiness is better shared. Of course people back home would marvel more at the ground below than the high mountain peaks.]

My name is Zelda. What's yours?

[Wow... That's so sweet of her. And kind of adorable??

She laughs.] I'm Max. It's seriously nice to meet you, Zelda. And your Loftwing!

We think the same. [She gives the bird a ruffle of the feathers, and the Loftwing calls out its agreement with a trill.] Do you want to land on the peak?

[So cool]

Whoa. Whoa, we can do that, yeah. [She nods, eyes wide.] Yeah, let's do that!

Jesus, I never thought I'd do something like this...

[She nudges her Loftwing gently; it changes angle to soar down towards the mountain peak.]

I take it there aren't giant birds that bond with people where you're from.

[She laughs in response.] Definitely not!

There aren't giant birds at all anymore. And you can't really make friends with all of the smaller ones, I guess...

Are you sure you've been trying hard enough to be their friends? [It's on the teasing side of course.] The bond between my people and our birds is probably a little different from what you'd have in your world. It was a gift to us from our Goddess. You likely wouldn't be able to have it without her.

[The Loftwing lands on the peak, and Zelda hops off easily. She holds out a hand to help Max down.]

Okay, okay! Maybe I haven't really tried that hard either. [She's joking. Really. Sort of!]

[As she lets Zelda help her down from the Loftwing, veeeery carefully stepping out onto the ground, she goes on,] Thanks. So your, uh, Goddess. She was really into the whole... bonding with nature thing?

The Goddess of course supports harmony in general, but the Loftwings are a more practical gift. To protect us from the war against demons, she raised us into the sky. Our bird companions were vital to a way of life above the clouds.

[Whoa. Okay, okay, this sounds amazing?? Like. Seriously fucking amazing?

And a little scary.]

Wowsers. Demons, huh? Yeah, looks like she really did the right thing sending you up there.

So do they, like, help you get around and everything up there?

[She lives above the clouds this is so cool]

Yes! We fly around our island and to other islands there. They're a very important part of our lives and culture. Their wings are part of our crest. [She lifts the blue panel for Max to see.]

[A laugh.] Sweet. Jesus, I can't even imagine doing that all the time.

And that's totally a cool crest! [A pause and...] ...Kinda pretty, too.

[Aw, cute. Zelda smiles brightly.] It is, isn't it! I'm glad they're part of our crest. We owe them at least that.

Yeah, I guess it's gotta be like a... [--What's the fancy word for it] Like a really good tribute to them? They probably freakin' love seeing those crests, too.

I wouldn't be surprised. Some of them are very vain.

[There is?? a fluffing of feathers and a butting of a head against Zelda's shoulder. RUDE??? She's laughing though.]

[Max laughs, too, turning to grin at the Loftwing.]

Yeah? I don't know, doesn't sound like they like hearing that.

He certainly doesn't like his flaws being pointed out. But he is a very handsome bird. [Help her pet Loftwing to soothe his ego]

[She hesitates, but Max does reach out to tentatively pet him.]

Aw, guess we've just gotta feed his ego now, huh?

I'm afraid you have no choice! [The Loftwing does respond warmly to the pets, so it's okay.] He likes you now. He'll expect you to be very nice to him right back!
