Swimming Lessons

[For all of the poor, unfortunate souls that have little to no swimming experience, fear not, there's hope! Sorey has taken it upon himself to corner you and offer to provide those much-needed swimming lessons out of the goodness of his heart (with the disclaimer that he isn't the best swimmer or the fastest swimmer, but he can get from one place to another without trouble, and surely that's all people need to begin with). He can be found up near the surface of the safe shallows giving basic lessons - perhaps you're one of his students, or just someone passing by?

Mikleo is also nearby, though his task is a slightly different one. He has taken it upon himself to be the emergency lifeguard, and also keep the perimeter of the area everyone is practicing in clear of floaters and other less than pleasant sea creatures with his magic. If you don't need lessons, but you're interested in helping ensure the safety of these precious baby swimmers, he would welcome the help. Or if you're just interested in collecting a specimen for a mission, he might throw one your way sooner or later!

If you just want to bother them or the people learning to swim, they don't look like they'd object to extra company.

Or, if you have a private or more advanced lesson set up with someone, they don't mind if you use the clear space on your own!]

[She's basically a failure of a swimmer, which is pretty sad for someone from a modern place. But hey, she's had other things to focus on...... so when she spies Sorey (he was friendly) and Mikleo (he helped her before!) she feels a little less daunted about approaching, though she still seems rather uncertain.]

[He's already waving her over as soon as he sees her. A familiar face makes it easier to bring her over and make her feel welcome!]

[He's so... cheerful!! And friendly!! It's hard to not smile in the face of such warmth, really.]

Oh, I'm okay, I think... thank you for asking. How are you, Sorey-san...? Have you been well?

[If she's smiling then he's doing his job right!! He's careful to keep his enthusiasm down a little bit, though, so he doesn't accidentally splash her.]

Yeah, I'm doing pretty good. I think I'm getting the hang of this place. Except for the part where we're swimming more than walking.

[It looks like Mikleo's concentrating more on the water currents than the swimming lessons (he looks sort of weird holding a long staff in the middle of the ocean, really) but he'll wave at her when he takes a breather.]

[It eternally cheers her up to see a familiar face, and he'd been kind and helpful (and had saved her life) when they first met--so she greets him brightly in return, lifting a hand to wave.]

Oh...! Hello, Mikleo-san!

[He... odes look kind of odd though, she'll admit that, and she'd snuck a glance or two at him while she was with Sorey to try to figure out what he was doing.]

Um--are you working on something?

Just keeping the area clear of fish while you practice. Sorey's a better swim instructor than I am, but I can keep the floaters and things off for a while.

Okay, but where are we actually gonna practice? I didn't think there was anyplace to swim other than...out in the ocean.

[Which doesn't seem to Jamie to be a very good starting point for novice swimmers, but then again he knows nothing at all about this particular subject.]

[Invisible commentary time. This is going to take some getting used to, but what the heck, at least everyone can hear him.]

You practice in the ocean with Sorey, I'll keep the sea life out of the space for a while and give you a hand in the water if you get tired. Try not to get too far away from him, though.

[Oh god mind voices. Jamie'd been warned about that, but this was the first time he's actually been subjected to them. He spooks like somebody's crept up behind him, because the mental effect is about the same.]

AAAaah okay, sure thing. [He looks around for the voice's owner.] Where are you?

[The ocean seemed fine to Sorey until a few seconds ago--what better way to practice swimming than in a huge body of water? But he realizes it's also a little daunting.]

I thought as long as we swam in the shallows it'd be okay. Mikleo and I will make sure nobody gets pulled away in a current, and he's keeping a look out for monsters. I know it's not ideal, but it's the best we've got.

All right, but...how are we gonna get to the shallows from here without, y'know. Swimming?

[Is Jamie missing something here? Probably. He is very dubious.]

[ And here's a student, already looking very serious. Thankfully, no dog around this time. ]

[Sorey doesn't look serious, comparatively, but he does look ready to teach! And the big grin on his face says he appreciates her dedication.]

Anytime. If we're going to all be in the water this much, it's better to make sure everyone can swim, right? Though, I think we should start with floating first. Do you know how to float?

... I think I'm better at sinking. [ She's being perfectly serious here. ]

[He actually did do a brief dog check of the area. Whew.]

[Milla is enjoying the sun - and actual surface - on one of the sandbars, watching them from not to far off. They might be teaching but it looks like they're having fun out there.

She waves at them.]

Don't let some nasty monster surprise you while you're on the surface!

[He'll wave back; he's not sure if this counts as fun exactly, but the water's nice and the weather's good, and they're being useful.]

[It looks like they're having fun to her at any rate. She lies back on the sandbar, shutting her eyes and switching to telepathy. She did come out here to enjoy the sun for a bit okay?]

It's pretty nice of you guys to teach people around here how to swim. You'd think that'd be a basic requirement or something.

[A deeply unhappy Sasasul is actually hanging out near the airlock, kitted out as if prepared to go in the water and with a respirator in her big snakey mouth but completely dry. If Sorey goes in or out he can't miss her, wringing her hands.]

[He does a bit of a double-take at the sight of her, since she's so obviously not human. But more than a few people here aren't human, and he's getting used to that, so the second thing he notices is her wringing hands.]

[She looks at him. The third eye set between the normal two is every bit as unblinking and expressionless as they are. Her voice, though, is easy enough to read.]
