POST-HURRICANE LOG | OPEN MINGLE
[Past the 9th of the month, the hurricane's finally blown itself out, leaving a great deal of mess behind (but at least, a lot less mess than there would have been without the crew's various antics, right?)
After the calm there's the storm, but after the storm, there's...uh, actually, it's not all that calm again yet. Look at all these notable goings on that you can play with:
SICK PEOPLE are still a thing. Are you still suffering from the ravages of alien cave flu? Finally finding the energy to crawl out of bed? Starting to come down with it yourself? Getting dosed with cure attempts? Doing the dosing? Or maybe you're not sick at all but went hurricane surfing and are now prone in the medbay. It's been a rough couple of weeks.
The HURRICANE'S AFTEREFFECTS still linger. Fish in the base aquariums and biomes are just starting to resume their regular activities. Maybe some of your special fish friends are still spooked and need some coaxing out? Maybe you want to swim out to a more distant biome to check on creatures like the Reefbacks or the Birdogs? Or maybe you want to stick closer to home and do things like finish repairing the busted corridors, and cleaning out the kitchens and showers so the food and bathing situation doesn't descend back into complete travesty.
For those who've started wandering out, there's also FAMILIAR ITEMS washing up -- things from your home, or at least...someone's home. Is an embarrassing photo of you now plastered against an observatory window for the world to see? Your fancy car from home buried in the sand of the Safe Shallows?
Lastly, on the night of the 13th (and subsequent nights...), a distant DISCO LIGHTSHOW becomes totally visible on the horizon, in the Monolith's direction. What the heck? Maybe that's worth checking out.
And of course, there's always PLANNING, MISSIONS AND SHENANIGANS to do. Go nuts!]

b!
but as he passes by the showers, he manages to notice hinata and his entourage of drones trying to fix the wreckage. that looks like something he can help with! what else would you do with superhuman strength, right?
anyway, a few minutes later peter will be swimming over in his wetsuit, waving to try and get his attention. ]
Hey! Need some help?
no subject
Telepathy startles him, as usual, though this time the start leads him banging his head against the top of a bent girder with a muffled noise that might have been a curse through a stream of bubbles. It takes a second for him to find the waving, then he offers one in return, shaking his head a little. Good going, Hajime, hitting your head and generally looking uncool in front of... someone he doesn't recognize. Great.]
Yeah, I'd appreciate it. I'm mostly taking direction from the drones, to tell the truth... do you know much about building?
no subject
Sorry about that, I'm still getting used to this telepathy thing.
[ at least he seems to be alright? that's good. now that he's closer to them, he can actually get a better look at the wreckage. he sort of shakes his head at hajime's question, one hand reaching back to swipe at the back of his head in the universal 'i don't know what i'm doing, but i want to help anyway'. ]
I'm a little better at building computers than actual structures, but I'm sure we can figure it out.
[ #optimism!! anyway, he'll take hold of that bent girder and... casually bend it back into place. ]
no subject
[And it's been more than a month for him. It's impossible to see, thanks to the breath mask, but Hajime gives the stranger a smile and a nod. No hard feelings, even if hitting his head did no favors for the low-key dizziness he's been suffering from since getting sick.]
I'm Hinata. I don't think we've met yet?
[Is what he "says," though as soon as Peter bends that girder, there's an audible yelp and a rush of bubbles as Hajime recoils.]
H-how did you--?!
no subject
there's a brief, awkward pause. quick, think of something to say. ]
I lift. A lot.
[ nailed it. ]
And no, we haven't. I just got here a few days ago, actually. But um, I'm Peter. It's nice to meet you, Hinata.
[ the name sounds familiar though. ]
Do you know Dirk?
no subject
There's no way normal weightlifting can do that!!
[But it's just another Weird thing on this base. Hajime's life these days has basically been that one John Mulaney skit: life is so weird, this might as well happen. He'd exhaust himself if he spent time scrutinizing every single person with weird powers who showed up on base. So that'll come later. Instead, politeness.]
Nice to meet you. [There's a nonverbal noise that makes it through the telepathy, though, almost like a mental exclamation point.]
Yeah, of course, he's a good friend of mine. Why do you ask?
[Was Dirk talking about him. Did senpai notice him.]
no subject
[ it's good that hinata's latching onto the dirk part so he can just casually steer the conversation that way instead. yep. ]
He helped me out when I first got here and he mentioned someone named Hinata giving him a mask, so I thought it might be you.
no subject
Hajime manages to keep that thought to himself, though. It's really not worth prying into just yet. Maybe eventually, but for now...]
Ah, yeah, that's me. I'm the only Hinata on the base that I know of... there's another Hajime, but people don't usually call me by my first name, anyway.
[The reason for that is probably because Hajime introduces himself with his last name only so foreigners don't get confused and call him the wrong thing. But, details. He's just going to move on to the next bits of wreckage to continue clearing them, following one of the drones.]
He's great at helping people out, I'm glad you've met.
How long have you been here...?
no subject
[ he's still not sure how to feel about it. ]
Is there anything you prefer to be called? Or is Hinata okay?
[ he doesn't want to keep calling a guy something he's not too comfortable with. he swims along after them, taking cues from the drones for which debris to clear first. ]
Yeah, he's pretty cool. I just got here a few days ago and he helped me a lot.
no subject
Yeah, it's because she arrived after I did... She decided to call me number one, and herself number two. She seemed excited about it, so I didn't bother correcting her.
Hinata's fine, though. Like I said, it's what most people call me. I don't know where you're from, but in Japan, we usually don't call each other by our first names unless we're really close friends who've known each other for a long time.
[Sometimes not even then.]
Where are you from...? If you don't mind me asking.
no subject
[ he thought it was a thing that only happened in anime, but apparently it's legit. ]
And I'm from America. New York. Uh, twenty first century, if that helps.
no subject
[Little does Peter know he's talking to a real life anime character.]
Yeah, it helps. I'm from Japan, the same time. It's weird that we have to even compare "time periods" in a place like this, isn't it?
no subject
[ he's never really given it that much thought before, but it does seem kind of weird from a different perspective when he thinks about it. ]
If you ever feel weird about it, I don't mind you calling me Parker instead. That's my last name. Just putting it out there.
[ he's painfully new to everything; mostly he just doesn't want to impose on anyone and make them uncomfortable. ]
And yeah it's... an experience, for sure. But so far, most of the people I've met are from a time I'm familiar with, so that's a good thing I guess.
no subject
[At least, that's what he's gathered from the movies. And the other people on base.]
Really, it's not a big deal. Don't worry too much about it.
[Another rush of bubbles as he laughs again, self-deprecatingly, and moves on to clear more wreckage further down.]
Yeah, it's reassuring to have people with a similar background to you. I don't know about you, but I'd never have even imagined a setting like this. Underwater, with an AI this intelligent... it's beyond belief.
no subject
[ that self-deprecating laugh, while slightly muffled, sounds familiar. there's something warm on his end of their connection, a sense of camaraderie. ]
I mean, weird stuff happened back home, but not something to this scale. You'd think there'd be more warning when you find yourself transported to another planet entirely.
[ he can't say anything about the AI bit, because he's pretty sure vision was tony's AI before being... what he is now. but he gets it. ]
