A. Telepathy (or action if you'd like - she's in the base)

[ The telepathic message comes from one of your younger crew members. A shy child like Elize dislikes having to broadcast her thoughts to a group of people, but she's concerned. She won't find answers if she keeps the thoughts to herself. ]

Um... has- has anyone seen a girl named Mai? I met her when I woke up on the scary ship. I haven't seen her since...

[ She only heard about one or two people going missing... it hasn't crossed her mind that Mai went missing for possibly the same reasons. She had only spoke with the girl once, but it doesn't take long for Elize to consider someone as a friend. ]

B. Action (On the Base)

[ Alternately, the twelve-year-old can be found in the kitchen, arranging sea shells and rocks in a jar in an attempt to make the base more homey with sea decor. The shells and rocks were found during her mission with Tytree. Although it was initially to stock up for food ingredients especially since a hurricane is coming along, she couldn't help but take a few little decorations with her. Perhaps she can find a way to turn them into gifts somehow. Everyone on the crew is a friend! That's what she thinks at least.

The moment she notices someone might be watching her arranging the sea shell decor, she'll freeze up with wide eyes and look down bashfully. ]

...oh. Hello. [ She'll keep her eyes focused on the sea shells. You didn't startle her at all, nope! ] I found these when I was with Tytree. I thought they would make it more... cozy?

C. Dreamscape (Closed to Mikleo)

[ Elize can be found in the dreamscape, sitting on the ocean floor amongst a pod of reefbacks swimming about. In her lap is a pink and purple doll. A doll and also her best friend, Teepo who can only be with her in her dreams. The reefbacks are keeping her extra company, talking and trying to comfort each other, especially after the death of the one Reefback that tried to aid the crew on their escape from the Reapers. ]

I'm sorry I couldn't save your family. I wish there was more that I could do... [ Following those words is a different voice, coming from Elize's stuffed animal: ] Elly tried her hardest!

[ A very disappointed telepathic "oh". Honestly, she doesn't know much else to say besides that. There's a long awkward pause, making it seem like that's all Elize has to say in response.

Wait, she does kind of have more to say!: ]

I hope she's okay.

[ neil is really bad at comfort, and he is pretty sure that is what this girl probably needs. he's not really the person to do that sort of thing though, so there is another awkward pause as he tries to figure out what to respond with. ]

She seemed nice.

[ that's... not really helping. ] I met her at the reefback funeral.

And was that also the last time you saw her?

[ Reminder of the reefback deaths probably doesn't help much either... but at least it might give her a hint about Mai's whereabouts. She didn't seem like the type of person to suddenly up and disappear. ]

I thought we were friends... [ Despite only talking to her ONCE. ] She couldn't have just left.

Yeah, it was.

[ it's a good thing they aren't talking in person because neil just grimaced. as someone whose best skill is leaving places on the spot, he doesn't quite agree with elize there. ]

I don't really see what your being friends has to do with her leaving though. I mean, in the end it's her decisions, and that's if she decided to leave at all. A lot could have happened.

[ it's not a really good pep talk. ]

But friends don't just leave friends behind without telling them, do they?

[ It probably doesn't matter whether they're talking in person or not. She's already beginning to sound irritated and upset. Elize dislikes being left behind and even more so, left alone. Although she still has plenty of others around now to keep her company, she also dislikes not having any answers. ]

Sometimes they do.

[ neil isn't even sure why he's arguing about this. it's not like either of them know what actually happened to mai. she could still be around, or maybe she was like. kidnapped by some fish or something. either way, it's rather pointless to continue this line of conversation.

neil continues it anyway. ]

You shouldn't think badly of her just because you don't know her circumstances.

[ A beat, then she answers more calmly. ]

...I don't think badly of her. She kept me company and I didn't feel scared anymore.

[ Mai helped her and she can't bring herself to be too upset. Though, it's probably best not to tell a child that Mai probably got kidnapped by a fish somewhere. ]

Why do some people go away without saying anything?

[ hm, now that's a loaded question.

neil's always running because he can't afford to be found. if he ever figures out how to leave this planet he'll do it in a heartbeat, and he'd most likely not tell any of the other crew members he was leaving. he doesn't want to imply that mai's reasonings are anything like his though. from the conversation they shared together, he didn't exactly get that vibe from her. ]

It depends on the circumstances. Sometimes people want to say goodbye, but they just don't have time to do it. Or maybe they thought they were going to come back, and something happened that made them unable to do so. There could be a lot of reasons.

[ They sound like they might be plausible reasons. They'll most likely never know what happened to her, unless Mai suddenly comes back. Elize has had people in her life leave her without telling her anything before.

There's a small telepathic sigh from Elize. A lot could have happened. ]

I... guess so...

[ god how do you comfort children?

or anyone, really, neil isn't good at it even if the person is his age but. children are definitely a mystery. ]

I know some people are trying to research what happens when people leave. Maybe we'll figure something out?

[ Well, Elize probably just needs some time... ]

...huh?

[ She hasn't quite made the connection that the disappearance of Merrill's friend and the Milla that Mikleo spoke of might have gone missing similarly to how Mai left. Until now. ]

I wonder if they all went away for the same reason.

Maybe?

[ neil doesn't want to jump to any conclusions and say that's likely what happened, but. if it occurs enough times then that is definitely suspicious? people just wandering off on their own and never returning is a bit concerning, especially since they're surrounded by nothing but ocean.

it's easy to jump to the worst possible conclusion with that knowledge, but it's best not to. tell a little girl any of that, elize would probably freak. ]

Maybe URSULA might have some sort of idea?

[ She would definitely freak if he told her that. People wandering off and disappearing sounds very much like some horror story. Elize is an easy person to scare. ]

O-okay. I'll... ask URSULA!

[ ...Eventually. She sure doesn't sound thrilled to have to talk to the AI. She already had a difficult time bringing herself to make a public broadcast. ]

[ he notices the lack of enthusiasm, and he takes a few seconds to consider if he wants to get further involved with this. ]

Do you... want me to ask her with you...?

No! I know how to ask her on my own!

[ She is very bad at hiding her discomfort but wow, she suddenly sounds offended. ]

Geez. Okay, sorry I asked.

[ HE WILL... LET YOU BE INDEPENDENT, ELIZE... ]

[ There's a sound of a "huff" over telepathy. ]

...I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

[ OH GOD BEING INDEPENDENT IS SCARY... SHE IS BRAVE AND CAN TOTALLY DO THIS. NO WORRIES. ]

[ he raises an eyebrow, which she can't actually see. it seems like she has guts for a kid. she seemed kind of meek. ]
