01 ❀ TELEPATHY/OPEN ACTION/CLOSED PROMPT FOR MIKLEO

A. Telepathy (or action if you'd like - she's in the base)

[ The telepathic message comes from one of your younger crew members. A shy child like Elize dislikes having to broadcast her thoughts to a group of people, but she's concerned. She won't find answers if she keeps the thoughts to herself. ]

Um... has- has anyone seen a girl named Mai? I met her when I woke up on the scary ship. I haven't seen her since...

[ She only heard about one or two people going missing... it hasn't crossed her mind that Mai went missing for possibly the same reasons. She had only spoke with the girl once, but it doesn't take long for Elize to consider someone as a friend. ]

B. Action (On the Base)

[ Alternately, the twelve-year-old can be found in the kitchen, arranging sea shells and rocks in a jar in an attempt to make the base more homey with sea decor. The shells and rocks were found during her mission with Tytree. Although it was initially to stock up for food ingredients especially since a hurricane is coming along, she couldn't help but take a few little decorations with her. Perhaps she can find a way to turn them into gifts somehow. Everyone on the crew is a friend! That's what she thinks at least.

The moment she notices someone might be watching her arranging the sea shell decor, she'll freeze up with wide eyes and look down bashfully. ]

...oh. Hello. [ She'll keep her eyes focused on the sea shells. You didn't startle her at all, nope! ] I found these when I was with Tytree. I thought they would make it more... cozy?

C. Dreamscape (Closed to Mikleo)

[ Elize can be found in the dreamscape, sitting on the ocean floor amongst a pod of reefbacks swimming about. In her lap is a pink and purple doll. A doll and also her best friend, Teepo who can only be with her in her dreams. The reefbacks are keeping her extra company, talking and trying to comfort each other, especially after the death of the one Reefback that tried to aid the crew on their escape from the Reapers. ]

I'm sorry I couldn't save your family. I wish there was more that I could do... [ Following those words is a different voice, coming from Elize's stuffed animal: ] Elly tried her hardest!

Ohhhh...! So you're our buddy that helped us! The water spirit!

[ Both the doll and Elize ease up, once they realize that Mikleo isn't anyone to be afraid of, even though they're in a dream. It's still surprising though, having not expected to ever see Mikleo's face. She nods in response as she moves her hand to pat Teepo on the head. ]

I can. Is it because we're dreaming?

It must be. There's a lot of strange stuff going on here, so it's probably not as surprising as it could be -- well, it's nice to meet you face-to-face, properly.

[he's gently bopped by a tentacle at this point, and smiles crookedly, pausing to pat the Reefback's side.]

Yes, I'm being rude. Hello to you all too...this is much nicer than last time.

[he'll gradually make his way through them, to join her in the middle of the crowd.]

[ There's plenty of space next to Elize, if Mikleo would like to sit by her on the ocean floor. The doll in her arms watches him, ears twitching. ]

I'm Teepo, by the way! I can only show up while Elly's dreaming. Nice to meet ya, Mikleo!

[ Little does she know that he's actually a pillow transformed by her thoughts. It feels comforting to see him and hold him in her arms, despite only being a dream. ]

We told them what happened... how we tried to help their family.

[ A tentacle gently brushes across Elize's head as one of the Reefbacks swim above her, as though giving her a little gesture of comfort. ]

[he hangs back until the comforting Reefback has finished passing overhead, and then settles next to her, yes.]

Seems like they appreciate knowing.

[he'll also incline his head to Teepo gravely; he's learned that people come in all shapes and sizes, after all. if Teepo talks, he's not going to make assumptions about him just because he looks like a pudgy stuffed toy.]

It's nice to meet you too, Teepo. Are you two friends, or are you Elize's guardian...?

[ Elize squishes the doll lightly in her arms. ]

...Teepo is my friend.

[ Despite knowing what he truly is, she isn't exactly ready to part with him yet. It's difficult when it's a doll she's been with since she was a toddler. Little does she know her thoughts merely shaped a pillow to take on his characteristics in her dream. ]

Thanks for keeping Elly company! She was so scared, thinking she was all alone without me or Jude or the others. Wouldn't have known she'd wind up making friends with another spirit! And even sea animals!

[well, a friend is a friend, he thinks. he looks a lot cuter than the Striders' puppets, anyway -- though Mikleo casts about a little to figure out how to talk to both of them politely.]

It's not been a problem at all. She's--you've--been very kind, and helpful as well. It's been a pleasure, actually.

Yes... you've been helpful too, Mikleo.

[ Elize frowns a little, silently looking upon the sea floor. She hasn't forgotten that Mikleo had mentioned Milla to her, while they were doing their best to tend to the dying Reefback. She misses Milla.

Even if she doesn't want to say it aloud, her feelings can be read all over her face. And it's of course, Teepo that will blurt it out for her: ]

...Elly can't stop thinking about what you said about Milla!

Oh -- um, but --

[he looks quizically at the pair of them.]

I thought you didn't want to talk about it.

She-... mmphhh!

[ Elize clamps a hand around her stuffed animal's mouth to prevent any further blurting out. She can speak for herself, but she pauses thoughtfully before saying anything. ]

I... think I can talk about it now.

. . .all right. Milla wasn't around for too long before she vanished, but I'll answer any questions about her that you might have, as best as I can.

[it's strange and sad, that two people who knew each other missed each other here, even if it seems like their history might have been complicated.]

[ The questions that she does have, she's uncertain if Mikleo will be able to properly answer them or make sense of it. She wants to at least explain to him what happened before she awoke on the Aurora, her reason for being surprised to know that Milla was around. ]

The last I remember of her, she... died protecting me and my friends. I still don't understand how she could have been here.

[he stares at her, struck wordless for a moment. died? but...then, how indeed could she have traveled to another world?]

She talked to me about...rifts? Fractured worlds? I didn't get a lot of the fine details, but it sounded like she was...traveling through them, when she came here.

...I'm sorry, Elize. I had no idea. She didn't mention anything of dying.

Rifts? What? She... never said anything about that to me. I don't know what those are.

[ Never once did Milla mention the concept of something like rifts or fractured worlds. She pauses, unsure of what else to say, then moves her fingers slightly to allow Teepo room to finally add in to the conversation: ]

Gee, if both you and Elly are totally confused, I don't think any of us will be able to make sense of what's up with Milla!

[ The doll's head bows forward sadly, ears drooping. ]

She didn't seem to want to talk about it a lot. She did tell me a little about fractured worlds...she said they were -- possibilities? That she was traveling through them and came here instead. Maybe there was some strange magic going on there; there certainly was enough to bring us all here.

It's been a few months. It would be nice if she came back, I think. We don't know where the people who disappear from here go, but traveling doesn't sound so bad.

That would be nice. I'd like to talk to her again. And because we really miss her.

[ She's not sure if she's grasping the concept of fractured worlds, but it would be nice to see Milla again. To ask her questions and just to see her again. When she thought she saw her sacrifice herself, maybe she survived...? ]

The people that disappeared... I hope they're okay. It's kind of scary to think about! Wh-what if we disappear too? That won't happen to us, Teepo!

I hope they're okay too. We keep looking for them -- we do know they're still alive, just...not here. So that's a comfort. And if those of us here do keep looking out for each other, hopefully it won't happen so much.

You two were good friends...?

I'll keep looking out for everyone too. Because we're all friends!

[ Despite the fact she hasn't exactly spoken with every single person on the base. They're all stuck here, working together on the base like a team. Everyone must be friends! That has been Elize's logic... ]

Yes, we were. Elly really admired her. When she grows up, she wants to be just like her! Strong aaaand sexy! Teepo...!

[ She clasps a hand back over the doll's mouth. ]

If we all have that attitude, we should be able to make it out of here okay.

[he covers his own mouth, hiding a half-smile at their byplay]

I'm not sure I'm a very good judge of 'sexy,' but you're pretty strong, Elize.

Oh... thank you.

[ She lowers her head, easily flustered by the comment. Teepo wriggles out from behind her hand, opening his big mouth to brag for his best friend. ]

Yeah! Elly is super strong! She showed up here all by herself, without anyone she knew. Didn't cry or anything!

[ She did her best to restrain herself from crying. It was pretty scary at first. ]

You were really brave, Elize. You didn't even hesitate to go help that Reefback.

[...hesitates a moment, then ruffles her hair gently]

It's okay to cry sometimes, though...even I want to, once in a while. But it's better if you don't do it alone.

[ His praise towards her gets the tiniest smile out of her. She reaches up to smooth down a lock of her ruffled hair. ]

...You do? Grown ups cry too?

...well. Yeah.

[he hasn't much since he was a kid. somewhere along the line someone taught him it was stronger to hold it in. but he's learned a little more since then...enough to wonder if it's better to let emotion like that go somehow rather than keep it until it blooms into malevolence.

he sorts this thought out aloud, slowly, a little awkward but honest]

Grown ups do it less where people can see, I think. And sometimes...when you're older, you learn to grieve different ways, and sometimes some of those ways skip tears? Sometimes grief just makes you try harder, or -- or make you want to find a way to do something about it, instead.

But, you know, no one really loses wanting to cry. Everyone's sad sometimes. It's okay.

[ She's quiet a moment, as though contemplating Mikleo's answer. Though her silence might also mean that she's unsure of how to respond. It makes her think of the grief that she had in the past and the ones that she has now, such as missing her friends.

Teepo answers for her: ]

Heeey... I think you're right, Mikleo! This one time, when Elly thought she was getting in the way, she started to cry... but then she used her healing artes to help her friends!

[ A blush forms across her face, but she can't deny what Teepo said about her crying in the past. Especially now that Mikleo told her that feeling sad is perfectly fine. ]

Yes...

[ The doll continues: ]

Elly feels super sad that she's away from her friends. Even now, she wants to do something about that too! She's like a little grown up!

Mm. Well, it's not like there isn't a lot to do here, too.

[certainly having a productive focus in mind helps, when one isn't sure of something -- and when the question is 'where are my friends,' well, then that applies all the more.]

...Sorey and I go out on a lot of missions. Sometimes it's just for stuff for the base, or research, but sometimes we go out for the sake of going out -- for the sake of finding out how we got here, and where people have gone, and if there's a way to leave again. Do you think that would be something you'd be insterested in doing, too?
