JELLY SHROOM CAVE BASE EXPLORATION | ACTION

[In the early morning, just after breakfast is cleaned up, Sorey sends a telepathic broadcast to whoever is still currently hanging around the base:

Hey everyone! We found a strange cave way down deep in the tunnels a couple of weeks ago, and the fish down there told us there were humans living down there somehow! We’re going to check it out today. You’re welcome to come with, but bring some kind of shielding, all right? There’s a whole bunch of Tiger Plants on the route, and those spikes they shoot are no joke!

Mikleo chimes in: If you have swimming troubles, I should be able to take you around, though a couple of you might want to bring Seaglides as well. We mapped out a partial safe route, but keep in mind there’s some very large predators, and the water pressure’s going to be pretty intense if you move too far from us down there. Come prepared for that.

Should you as an intrepid explorer decide to venture down into the tunnels with them, there’s plenty to see. Glowing Jelly Shrooms are scattered across the caves, the only bit of light offered so far down in the dark. Sorey and Mikleo will lead the group in a careful circuit through them, not going too close. It’s easy to see why when a couple of Crabsnakes poke their heads out curiously.

The abandoned base the group will come across is small but has some useful items if you care to take a look. There’s also a dully glowing three-person Seamoth to be discovered not too far away, out of power, if any technologically-inclined people want to figure out how to get that back to base for use.

[ At first she thinks: Scums? Her brief thought was on rugby before he extrapolated. Then she gave a small, internal ah and nodded. ]

You could say that. Why? Looking for a partner?

[ Her helmet didn't hide the sharp smile she gave him. ]

[That is the most frightening thing anyone's ever said to Jake. Or at least it feels like it.

But he really does need to fight people who aren't Dirk. So maybe it's a good idea? If she's as vicious as she looks, she'd probably have a lot to teach him.]

Uh, well, I could always use a bigger variety of partners!

[ She wasn't stupid; he looked nerdy, but she could see the muscles there too. Not as refined as Dirk's, but still not someone who just sat on his ass in front of a screen all day.

If he were any good with his potential energy, now, that remained to be seen. ]

Well, whenever we're not trawling the ocean floor, hit me up.

[He really should be worried about how easily everyone agrees to fights. Or at least the people he picks to fight do? Actually that says more about him since he picks them. Hmm.]

You don't mind not having prior warning?

As long as you don't.

[ She didn't mean she'd just attack him; she meant that he'd get it hard and violent if he just jumped out at her. But hey, she's Valentine. What's life without a little double-entendre? ]

So it's your choice. Consensual scuffles or sudden entanglements?

[He considers it for a moment before nodding.]

Anytime is fine. Just don't hold back on me.

He was saying that to me. Not you.

[ She turned easily in the water over the snail. It wasn't pleased at being ignored. Or rather, it wasn't pleased at them being in its territory.

She turned her attention back to him. ]

It's a date, then.

[potentite]

What? [He's distracted by Ripley and his own inability to hear the word 'date' without mentally flipping out.] Wait uh. What? I'm sorry? I, uh. I mean I appreciate any interest but whoo boy uhm...

[inject]

[ ... Really. And she wasn't even wearing her uniform. ]

You're right. I desperately want a teenager. That inexperienced fumbling is just so arousing.

[ Can you hear how dry that telepathy is? It's practically like walking on land right now. ]

I'll try to contain my disappointment.

[potentite]

[He didn't actually want to date her but wow. Wow! Rude much?]

You could have been a mite gentler in your wording...

Probably, [ She agreed. He could always have not assumed she was literally asking him out, but he was a teenager. She'd forgive him some stupidity. Not be nice about it, but forgive it? Sure. ]

Dating aside, I hope to find you throwing all you have at me back at base.

[potentite]

[He can't help it that most people he's known have wanted him for some reason. Granted, he hasn't really known maybe people, but it's still weird.]

I will. I don't want to hold back. A lady deserves a gent's best in every aspect, including fisticuffs. [How else is he going to get better?] Uh. Though I realise in my rush I didn't learn your name. I'm Jake English. And I guess for reference? I like Floater Island a lot too if you want to fight me there sometime.

[This really is going to be like home if someone tries stabbing him in a jungle.]

[ Jake English. Sounded like one of those suave spy novel heroes. It made her wonder if it was fake, but, hey. Not only did she not care, it would be hellishly hypocritical of her to care. ]

Valentine.

My, my. I fought another teenage boy on that island. I best not make a habit of it... but once more won't hurt.

[potentite]

[He wants to comment what a pretty name that is for a beauty but she scares him. Also he can't help making a face and getting distracted.]

...Was his name by any chance Dirk Strider? Ye of the pointy shades and monotone?

[inject]

[ Not surprising he knew him, actually. They were both on this trip, and despite their stiffness, they clearly knew each other. She gave a small huff of amusement and dipped her head in a nod. ]

The self same one.

Friend from home?

[potentite]

[Jake nods, a little flustered. Partly from Dirk, partly because of course Dirk fought the scary lady. Of course he would. God, why.]

He's my best friend. I usually strife around with him, actually. I'm not surprised he fought with someone...

[ She shouldn't.

She can't resist.]

He's got a good handle on a shaft. I'm impressed.

[potentite]

[Even through telepathy his voice breaks.]

What?! He what?! But we— What, no, I mean we— Uh, we?! Holy fucking dickens oh god.

[He can't hide his face well enough here but he's trying.]

[ She let him fluster for a moment, then laughed. The sounded didn't come out of her helmet, but her telepathic voice seemed amused. ]

By that I mean he's good with his katana.

Couldn't resist.

[potentite]

[Oh god he's being teased. He can't believe this.]

W-Well! Uh. There's no way to erase that huh? Phew you could knock me over with a feather. I, uh. Yeah he's great with his sword.

[He can't say that anymore oh god. Now he's thinking something different. No. Jake groans.] So! What is your scrumming style!

[Said/Thought too loudly but he tried.]

[ My my. Quite ruffled. She wondered why, then decided she didn't care too much. ]

Fast. If you want to learn more, you'll have to fight me. [ It's not that she can't appreciate trying to be prepared, but where was the fun in that? She smirked. ]

[potentite]

[Well, he can't say he's surprised. She doesn't seem the type to give away everything.]

Dirk's fast, too. I got this, little lady.

[inject]

[ Considering she's ten years older than him and six feet in her stockinged soles, 'little lady' was met with a raised eyebrow. ]

[potentite]

It's an expression. I thought anything else might be offensive.

[She's very scary even if she teased him.]

[inject]

[ She just found it funny, it's okay Jake. ]

All right, little man.

[ Her medical bag snapped shut with some little clicks and she holstered it at her lower back. Let's not ask how and why it still worked the way it did on land. ]
