monolith revisited | mingle
One fine morning, a boyish voice broadcasts to everyone around base:
There's a lot left to explore inside the Monolith, so I'll be visiting it today. If anyone else wants to come along, feel free.
Once all interested parties are assembled and traveling arrangements sorted out, they're off to the Monolith! Given the length of the journey, this will be a real time investment. A one-way trip takes nearly two hours by flight. Traveling in silence? Boring. How should they occupy their time? Travel games? Joy rides in the Seamoth? Maybe even some old-fashioned chit chat??
Once they arrive, there's plenty to explore. With some sniffing around, they'll find a map revealing that the Monolith contains a cafe and common area, crew quarters, lab, med bay, and "special alien containment" room. However, it'll take some ingenuity to actually reach each area. And by ingenuity I mean bombs.
Which is why the group will need a demolition crew! Get to blasting those walls in logical places. Or illogical places. No one ever said it had to be a good demolition crew. With enough willful destruction, surely all of the the Monolith's secrets will be laid bare in no time.
(( Here are the full details on what can be found in the Monolith! Create your own topics and go nuts. ))

Hajime just laughs, though, loud, genuine laughter as his grip tightens on Dirk's shoulders.]
N-no, he was a high schooler like me, but... do you guys know the term "chuunibyou?"
no subject
Nope.
no subject
Sounds familiar, but I don't know it.

[Which you don't seem too far away from, Loki. Except for the whole can-actually-become-a-bird bit]
But in spite of how weird he could be... he was a really great guy. You'd probably like him, if you could meet him. He'd fit in here.
[He's saying you're all weirdos.]
no subject
[ They are self-aware weirdos. ]
You know, I've been wondering. Everyone here is unusual in some way. [ Even Elize and Hotaru come from unique backgrounds, he is pretty sure. ] But you seem as normal as they come, Junior. Are you secretly hiding some extraordinary ability?

He's been extraordinarily tolerant as the crew straightman.
[Seriously.]

[His fingernails dig hard into Dirk's shoulders as he tenses, teeth gritting together behind closed lips as he stares over the other boy's head rather than look toward the bird. Almost immediately, he seems to realize what he's doing and relaxes his grip, muttering a quiet,] Sorry...
[He swallows hard and still can't bring himself to look anywhere but past the back of Dirk's head. He hates talking about this, he really does, and it's audible in his voice. There's a resigned, bitter note to his voice as he answers,]
But... no. I'm just... a normal high school student. There's nothing special about me... at all.

That was a super weird and fishy reaction?? Wow. He stares at Hinata for a couple seconds, then looks to Dirk. What he expects of Dirk other than a dead expression, no one knows.
Also Loki doesn't have time for oblique questions, he asks them head-on like a MAN. ]
... Well, I guess every story needs a normal, everyday character for people to relate to. Maybe you're our protagonist, and the rest of us are just side characters.

[It's okay. The only reaction Dirk gets is, indeed, a blank expression. He's thinking but his face doesn't show it.
Realizing that something here really hits the mark, that it really disturbs Hinata, and not yet having the context for it, Dirk offers a helpful contribution.
Harem protagonist.

...That's definitely not it.
no subject
Gahahaha! What a perfect straightman reaction! Another essential protagonist trait! So? Who's in the harem?

Korosensei's out. So is Loki. Sorry, bro, but I don't think we're that kind of sim. We'll stick to people about your age, so Chiaki's definitely in. The older Elise is your pseudo-loli option and Makoto is the big brother type or some shit like that. Then you have me, Rox, Jake, and Fef. Rose and John's orientations preclude them from what I can tell. That Shiro dude can go for the mysterious type, and Stork can be the xenokink option. Fukami too, but for the tentacle fetish.
I'd suggest adding Valentine despite her stepping outside of the age restriction limits. There are too many fetish points going for her to exclude her from your options.

[The straightman, he was going to say, but Dirk... Dirk....
Dirk......
To his credit, Hajime stays quiet through Dirk's whole hypothetical game scenario. On some level, he recognizes what the other teen is doing, and he appreciates it. Or... well, he'd like to think Dirk is doing this for his benefit. It doesn't automatically make him feel better for not having a talent, but it's enough to distract him from it for now.]
How long have you been thinking about this?
