It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.

[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.

But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.

Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]


→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.

It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?

If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]

[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?

Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.

Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]

[Not that he has a ton of experience meeting teachers, but it's still important to point out!]

What are your students like? And the other teachers?

I'm not completely like a spirit. I think.

[Amused...but he'll go quiet when Sorey asks, eager to hear the answer as well.]

My students? They're incredibly gifted and talented kids! Even though I've been teaching them for almost an entire year, I'm still amazed by them in some way every day...! Of course, they're all completely different, but that's just what makes them so charming - they all have their own good points and skills, you know - and with my guidance, they've honed their unique skills into powerful blades! They're really the best! Just the best! And they're all so cute, too...!

[ a half-second pause. ]

Oh, Karasuma-sensei and Irina-sensei are all right, too.

[The disparity between students and fellow teachers is real, he can't help but smile a little.]

It sounds like you've got some really great students. I bet they look up to you.

Mm, it's hard to imagine them not flourishing under such an appreciative teacher.

[...though, something gets his attention on that last sentence.]

Wait--is 'Sensei' a title rather than part of your name?

Uwah... Don't make me blush, you two! Nufufu...

[ he presses a tentacle to his face... ]

But you're correct. "Sensei" is the Japanese word for teacher.

Oh, so Korosensei is more of a nickname?

[He must really take teaching seriously if his nickname has the word teacher in it!!! Which is more and more apparent the more they listen to Korosensei talk about his job and his students, anyway.]

You have even people who aren't your students call you that?

Sounds like you take it as a twenty-four-seven job.

Correct again, Mikleo-kun! Teaching those children is my life's purpose. [ a nod. ] Sorey-kun is correct as well. Korosensei is a nickname given to me by one of my students. To tell the truth, I've never really called myself anything in particular.

[imsorey]

[That makes Korosensei a name rather than a nickname, in his mind, but it's a technicality. He is curious to know why he didn't seem to have a name before that, but it also doesn't seem like something to pry into if Korosensei isn't offering up the information on his own.]

Then Korosensei's a pretty good fit for you, as someone who's dedicated his life to teaching.

Ah...mm--

[That's the sound of Mikleo about to ask BUT WHY YOU HAVE NO NAME SENSEI, because sometimes these things slip out a little easier telepathically, and also names are important to seraphim. But he catches himself at the last second and changes the question.]

Wait, so -- does the 'Koro' part mean anything?

[ even if they asked, he wouldn't tell them, so it's just as well... ]

Well, it's actually a pun! "Sensei" means "teacher," and "korosenai" means can't be killed. In other words, an unkillable teacher! Clever, right? It's good that my young assassins know when they're beaten.

Korosensei...you shouldn't tease them like that or they really will try to kill you.

[Little does he know.]

I think this is the first time I've ever heard students being referred to as assassins, too.

[It's really too bad Rose isn't here.]

Ah, you see, that's because they really are trying to kill me. Assassinating me is the same thing as graduating for them.

Oh.

[Wait no it doesn't.]

--Wait, they're what?!

[Looking at Mikleo like "That's not normal, right?"]

--that's definitely not like any class we've ever heard of! What? Why?!

... That's right, I haven't told you yet! Silly me.

[ he totally knew. Apparently somewhat embarrassed, he scratches his face with a sucker idly. ]

The truth is, I'm a monster that's going to destroy the Earth, and there's a ten billion yen bounty on my head. Since the governments of the world have failed to destroy me, they listened to my request to let me teach a class for a year. But in return, that class's students are being simultaneously trained to kill me. Well, I consider it a fun challenge, so I don't mind.

[There are so many things that have suddenly taken a strange turn in this conversation, Sorey's not sure where to begin.]

...Have you...considered not destroying the Earth as a solution?

Also, how can regular students kill you if governments can't? Is this some kind of weirdly...specific...

[Actually he's not sure how to finish that sentence.]

Unfortunately, that isn't possible for me. Although we have lowered the chances of my destroying it by quite a bit.

[ or, rather than lowered them, discovered that they were low from the beginning. He shrugs his tentacles, as if they aren't discussing his own death and the possible death of an entire planet. ]

As for how they could kill me, that's part of the challenge! They're receiving training from some older assassins that work with me. Of course, the priority is their schooling.

That...sounds pretty serious.

[And that's putting it lightly. Murdering your teacher doesn't sound like part of everyday curriculum. They're missing a ton of context though, so he's not sure if there's anything he can do to make there be less murder in this situation???]

I'm guessing you've already put plenty of thought into this since it doesn't seem to bother you, but shouldn't there be another way?

You...you don't actually want to die, do you?

[He believes, fairly strongly, that Korosensei doesn't -- he seems to enjoy life too much for that, for the most part. But the question comes out uncertain anyway, and more than a touch distressed.]

Of course not.

[ in response to Mikleo. No one wants to die. But to be killed for the sake of others - those that are important to him - is a different story. ]

To tell the truth, my students have been searching for another way. Perhaps they'll find it. Sensei is leaving it all in their hands.
