It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.

[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.

But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.

Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]


→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.

It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?

If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]

[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?

Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.

Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]

[The good thing about being Fukami is that you can carry a lot of things. The bad thing about being Fukami is that... you can carry a lot of things. He's collected scrap metal from some of the nests not overly far away as well as other supplies, and these are currently being held in his tentacles.

...But it makes it difficult to move around.

Sorry if he just bumps right into you. At least he's quick to be polite about it if he does, with a brief:] Excuse me.


ii. someone order takoyaki
[No, just kidding. Fukami's not on the menu, octopus or not.

However, he is proficient (luckily for you, who happened to come into the kitchen at this time) at cooking. He has ten arms to work with, after all. Eight tentacles and two regular ones. All of which are in motion doing something if you come in at this time.

He'll merely spare you a glance but, if it looks like you're going to rummage through the cupboards on the hunt for something to eat:]

[Most people should be asleep at this hour so where's Fukami--

Well, depending on what you'd like to do, there are two further options here:

He's roaming the ship, as it were. He's quite quiet in general, so it might be hard to notice him until you come up right on him. He stands in one of the halls, staring outward into the ocean with an unreadable expression on his face.

He does have his air mattress set up in one of the free rooms. However, he's about as close to a wall or a corner as one could physically get without fusing with the wall. Here he's reclined with his back against it, his hand lifted so that he can idly click through the portable device strapped about his wrist with the other hand.

He doesn't seem like he's about to sleep... and he's about as far from any others as he could get. Hm.]

[Why, what a lovely out of the way spot you have yourself here, Fukami. Decidedly appealing to a Shiro with his little inflatable bed on his back while he hunts out a place to call home. For the night. He's been dropping his bed all over the past few nights. Tonight though he's sighted his octopal all alone.

Well.

Without waiting for invitation, Shiro drops his bed down right next to Fukami's and then drops himself onto it with an impressive fwump of a landing for his size.] Aaaaaah it's been a long day hasn't it? Are you ready for bed, Fukami?

[ Well, yes, he did bump into her... but that was polite, and he is carrying a lot of things?? So Cardia's hardly offended. ]

Eh? Really?!

[ presumably, Octopus #2 arrived in the kitchen with similar intentions - to make something to eat for himself. However, if given the option to sit on his caboose and have someone else make something for him? He's sure as hell taking it. He might have even tried looking a little sad and injected a sigh into his cupboard rummaging to make himself appear more in need of table scraps.

Of course, he's not acting like he did that. ]

You'll share your food with me, Fukami-kun?

um… before the offer had been made, roderic was going to hope for the best and find coffee in the cabinets, somehow, and try to power through the evening with that alone but.

actual food was good. better, even, if lie's insistence was true back home. he closes the cabinets gently, suddenly aware of just how much racket he was making then, and turns to face fukami proper while he did his magic. ]

Thanks. [ he rubs the back of his neck, feeling a bit inadequate since he was just standing here with an empty cup in his hand. ] Need any help with that? Settin' the table or anything?

ii. why so many tentacles

[Mai's used to seafood, she really is. She's from Japan, she likes her seafood, she's had all sorts of it prepared in all sorts of ways--

But what she's not prepared for is tentacles and eyes and when she sees it move on her place (probably just nerve endings, if she would've thought of that), she can't help the muffled noise of distress.

And she drops her plate.

Oops, good job, Mai--hopefully she didn't make a mess on you.]

iv: so about those stories

[It's stuck on her mind, her conversation with Sorey on how to make this place a little more homey. Now that they'll be living here, it's important, isn't it? So Mai's thoughtful for a bit, but a gathering like this...it's perfect, isn't it? So a demure, uncertain otome protag is coming up to you now (yes you), and asking--]

Um, excuse me... do you mind if I ask you about stories?

[Maybe they can still collect some books, and make this place more enjoyable to live in. It'd be worth it to see Sorey happy if nothing else, she thinks.]

[What a helpful echo there Shiro. But he's looking at Mai curiously now. The question has certainly caught his attention anyway. And piqued his interest. And truth of the matter is, he's lived long enough a life to know some stories.]

I mean of course I don't mind! What do you want to ask?

[He doesn't mind, of course...

Fukami turns to better face her, his arms folded over his chest, his head inclined forward. Stories is a pretty broad thing to ask about, so.]

And probably crash-landing spectacularly with that plate and its tentacle-y friend held aloft. ]

[ well, if it isn't one of his favorite not-students. Sensei, bereft of his mach speed and contained inside the base by all that pesky water outside, is fairly easy to catch around. This time is no different. He's in the kitchen, heating up water, with a small pile of dried and crushed something on a napkin on the counter in front of him. Naturally, he senses her coming before she says anything, and turns to face her with that ever-present grin. ]

Nyu? Stories? I'm afraid I'm not sure what you're referring to, Mai-san.

[Someone choosing to engage in conversation with her?? IMPOSSIBLE. Okay not really, but honestly, Yin never really expects people to approach her. That's how life was back home, anyways.]

What sort of stories? [Although she's not really sure she even knows that many...]

[ Her mind doesn't immediately leap to novels and the like, coming from a culture of heavy oral traditions. That she even knew how to write in Elvish had to do with the position she was once training for, and reading and writing in the common tongue had been necessary, not for pleasure.

But boy, are stories not a part of her life, including the truly unbelievable ones. ]

[The seafood is mostly all over the floor, but it's also on Sorey's pants. At least there's plenty of water to wash it off with?]

--Uh, you okay there?

[Option 1: Around the Lab]

[Perhaps surprisingly for anyone who's interacted with him, Shiro is fully capable of serious work. And he tends to spend a decent amount of time in the lab looking over various everything. Biology is not his forte. And marine biology even further from his comfort zone, so it's a definite challenge to teach himself everything he can about this place and its creatures.

Still he's not always paying as close attention as he ought to be, so it's likely that he'll swing out into the hallway without warning, a tray of vials and Petri dishes in hand -- all quite glass, all quite breakable -- and slam straight into you as you're passing with a startled yelp of:] Ah! Sorry! So sorry! You okay? [Strangely enough there's no sound of shattering glass, and instead the various slides and dishes and vials are all floating harmlessly about enveloped in a vaguely silvery glow.]

[Option 2: Feeeeed Meeee]

[Like any little stray, Shiro is drawn to people with food. Anyone cooking or otherwise munching can expect to have a small white-haired man appear close by all cheer and interest.]

What is that? Did you make it? [Is it tasty? Careful feeding strays though. Then you'll never get rid of them.]

[Option 3: Sea and Sky]

[Out in the vast ocean, at the otherwise mostly empty surface, a small figure is floating in his back, bobbing with the motion of the water and staring up at the sky. Maybe it's foolish to turn his back on the depths knowing what's down there, but Shiro doesn't worry about that.

He just misses the sky, and lying like this, at least he has something of a view of it.]

[Fukami hasn't spent too long out in the water since the explosion a little while ago. The water was hot and it's still not perfectly safe in some areas. However, if Shiro misses the sky, Fukami misses being in the water. Even if that water is a danger occasionally. He has far more access to water, though. But, glancing up in his swim and seeing a floating figure stops him. His first thought is dead?, morbidly, but then he drifts up closer and recognises the shape and hair colour. He's not face-down in the water so...probably not dead.

That's good.

First, it's a tentacle. Slowly. It crests the surface not far from Shiro, and the rest of Fukami follows it. He draws a breath of the cooler, sharper (to him) air above the water and treads for a few moments as he looks over at Shiro.]

Are you resting?

[ such a studious young man. Sensei would approve of the ardent research - if he'd had the chance to see him partaking in it. Instead, he only gets a glimpse of petri dishes and falling beakers as Shiro walks right into him.

Korosensei is a big, solid tentacle monster, and he doesn't even budge at the impact - and, while he may not be as fast as he used to be, he's still faster than the average slimy octopus. His tentacles are flying out to catch all that falling glassware without a moment's hesitation. ]

Goodness me. Sensei is fine, but you really must be more -- nyuah?! [ careful, is what he was going to say, but then he realizes that the stuff he was going to catch is conspicuously not being caught, and that's because it's floating. ] Aaah!! Ghosts?! A-again?! No, wait, Mikleo!! Mikleo-kun, is that you?!

[ he looks scared stiff... ]

I. PHANTOM OF THE LABS
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion and the subsequent trip to dive in and fix the leak, Mikleo’s been feeling pretty unwell, and hasn’t been around all that much in the past few days or gone back in the ocean at all. But there are short stretches when he feels up to being awake and about, and this is one: he’s sitting quietly in the labs and peering at the Gasopod poison and coral samples there, taking notes on how well they’re holding up in the tanks and occasionally pausing, lost in thought.]

If we can maybe weaken the poison, so it stuns instead of killing the fish…hmm. I’m starting to wish I’d asked Rose more about these things.

[If you can see and hear him, this all seems normal, though he looks a bit pale and drawn. If you can’t, then – what the heck is causing that pinging noise by the table coral tank? Is that batch of samples doing something odd?

(It’s just Mikleo absently drumming his pen on the metal below the tank, actually.)]

II. KITCHEN CONNIPTION (tags will be answered by Mikleo and Sorey)
[If you’re in or near the kitchen today you’ll hear and maybe see something odd – Sorey having a sort of one-sided argument with himself aloud as he walks around taste-testing a handful of various raw flora and fauna samples, though he’s clearly pausing to let someone else answer.]

Yes, but we didn’t have any problems with the shark, it’s probably fine. --No, but it’s kind of spicy, actually, do you want to try some? --Oh, right, sorry, I forgot…

[It’s easy enough to put down to a private telepathic conversation, except that if you can see a seraph, occasionally some part of Mikleo, a gesticulating hand or a ghostly blue-sleeved arm…pokes out of Sorey’s chest or back during the pauses in the argument, before disappearing again. What?]

III. I ATEN'T DEAD
[Labs aside, for the most part he’s been sulkily resting inside Sorey’s soul until the nausea and dizziness from the radiation subsides. He’d suffer this again to keep other people from having to deal with sickness and worse, but honestly: urgh, gross.

…Sorey’s active and out of the base for whatever reason right now, though, and Mikleo’s opted to stay behind because having your queasy best friend in your headspace is kind of a distraction when you might need to run from Sand Sharks. If you can see him, he’s clearly awake, irritable and worried and bored and tucked under a double layer of blankets on Sorey’s mattress, which has been laid out in one of the free rooms. If you can’t see him, the mattress looks totally unoccupied, but might shift oddly every now and again in the corner of your vision.

Whether you can or can’t, there’s a big ol’ hand-lettered sign propped up against the mattress itself that says BED CURRENTLY IN USE BY INVISIBLE PERSON, PLEASE DON’T LIE ON OR PUT AWAY! Mikleo looks mortified whenever he glances down and notices that it exists again.]

[Well, Fukami hasn't the slightest what he's walked in on and seeing an arm emerge from someone's chest is about as normal and not alarming as you might expect. So you know what he's going to do?

He is going to walk into the kitchen like nothing is amiss and boil some water for tea while barely sparing a glance over. That is what he's going to do. This is fine.]

[ such brave young boys. Hopefully they don't ingest anything too poisonous, because Korosensei doesn't have antidotes for everything (yet.) He slithers into the kitchen, humming off-key, but stops once he spots Sorey there, apparently talking to himself.

It's weird, but he's quick to put the dots together. Mostly because he's also stood around apparently talking to himself. ]

... Sorey-kun? Is Mikleo-kun with you?

[ Tired and pale aren't all that unusual for people who've been working hard (or overworking, or just about anything, she supposes), but it's still enough that in one of her drop off runs through the laboratories, she hears Mikleo and heads toward him instead of waving and heading off again. Keeping busy also meant getting out as often as possible, for her own sake. ]

I take it Rose is invested in studying things of this nature back where you're from?

[ Maybe. Seems like a somewhat reasonable stab in the dark. ]

How're you holding up?

ii. not meant for human (or doll) consumption

[It's a tentacle. It has eyes. It might also have a mouth somewhere on it. And as it continues to wriggle and squirm in Yin's hands, you'd think she was holding a rock rather than what was potentially her next meal given her blank expression. There's a long, long moment where it really seems like she's about to dig in right there, until—]

Is this edible if it's raw? [Yin... just go chew on some kelp......

Or at least make sure the thing is DEAD.]

iii. don't trip on the furniture

[It's not that Yin's adverse to sleeping in the rooms with other people, but she figures that there are others who would prefer to be able to lie down and stretch out. Frankly, it'd probably be better for her too, yet she can't say she really cares either way. Her own comfort isn't that big of a priority to her.

So she's out in the hallway, curled up against a wall, trying to take up as little space as possible. She doesn't want anyone to trip on her out here!

... But that's the thing about sleep. Having finally dozed off, her legs sprawl out in front of her as she falls deeper into sleep. Please remember to watch where you're going......]

[Certainly the living quarter in this base is pretty messy right now. While Lancer can sleep anywhere and in any condition, sharing it with loads of people actually makes things worse.

and you know, there's some times when you just suddenly wake up in the middle of the night just to find that your little tummy is screaming out loud for food. So wrapping himself in his blanket he starts to walk across the hallway, not observing his surrounding of course. As he walks on suddenly he does trip on her legs and falls down on his knees.]

Ouch! That hurts! What the heck did I just step into?

[It is dark. He can't see clearly but two legs spreading out and he starts to look where it leads. A body? Wraps in blanket? He's not sure but it looks like a zombie or a ghost. and it starts moving as well...]

Wh-whaa? What are you?!

[Certainly nighttime makes his brain works a little differently. What a kid.]

i. a heroic spirit trying to be a civil engineer

Tch...

[As you wonder around the base you'll probably hear a few sighs from one place. As you're trying to get the source of the grumbling, you'll find a man with a white shirt and a bandana is up there using the folding ladder trying to fix some of the areas around his living quarter. After the explosions a lot of things need to be repaired and here he is, with all the knowledge he knows trying to get the things done. Of course, it's not going smoothly for him. After a couple of hammering he loses his stability and falls to the ground before he knows it. The sound might be loud enough to get a person's attention who is around. Certainly a disgrace for a demigod.]

I'm so not doing this...

[Feel free to tease him up or just help him if you feel like a good person.]

ii. the adventurous sea conqueror

[you might hear a loud bang noise around the entrance of the base. A blue haired guy, soaking wet, holding a large fish around his shoulder and it may feed a lot of people.

He directly rushes through the kitchen to see what kind of ingredients he can use to blow this thing up to something edible for the whole crew. Seems like he's in a good mood today. After pondering for a while he partially gives up since his cooking skills are just average for survival and calls anyone around the base to help him out!]

Anyone's hungry and knows how to cook? I got ya some big catch to enjoy so feel free to go to the kitchen if ya have time!

Oh ladies are prioritized by the way! See ya!

[With that smile he rushes back and waits for someone to respond his request.]

[ She's gotta admit, it's never not a little gratifying and amusing to see someone who looks human make a fool out of themselves. Oftentimes less than productive, but at least it's enough to grab her attention. He's talking: she presumes he's not injured, and so her response from where she stands further back is less than helpful. ]

Not like that, you're not. What are you attempting to do outside of admiring the ceiling?

ii. just call her martha stewart

[ Michiru isn't well-suited for salvage or heavy lifting, but as quickly becomes obvious, she's got a talent for hunting fish, even without Haruka's assistance. But there's no point in catching too many fish if it goes bad uneaten, so Michiru can often be found preparing fish with careful, firm movements of a knife, creating a small pile of the parts that are inedible, rather than simply tasteless or simply kind of bland - anything spiny or suspiciously colored, mostly.

She's experimenting with the jelly plants lately, trying them as sauce, combining it with the kelp.

If you wander in, she'll look up. ] Do you mind taste-testing something for me?

[ And when she's satisfied with what she's made, she'll offer a clear, pointed broadcast to the base at large: ]

Good afternoon. I've prepared an early dinner, but have far more than I can eat by myself. If you'd like some, you're welcome to it.

iii. the last rose of summer is wilting.

[ It's evening, not night, when the delicate sounds of a violinist warming up may be heard in the halls from on of the observatories. Michiru warms her fingers and her strings with the familiarity of years of practice, and eventually settles into a piece, the desire to play itching under her skin.

She isn't being particularly secretive, and when someone enters the room she'll eventually make eye contact, but she has nothing to say until the song is over, after which she lowers her bow and lowers her head.

If you approach, she'll be happy to speak to you now. If she's left to her own devices, she'll work her way slowly through Paganini's 24 Caprices, so speak now or hold your peace until she takes her next break in twenty minutes. ]

iv. wildcard.

[ Michiru can be found doing small repairs around the base where possible, and is often found exploring caves. Sailor Neptune can be seen from time to time in more dangerous cave systems or returning salvage to the base! ]

[Yin has no reason to drift towards the sound of the violin like she does. Music really has no place in her life anymore, and the days of her playing piano are set firmly in the past. Still, she ends up standing by the doorway, listening silently until Michiru finishes.

She doesn't clap. All she has is a succinct:]

It was beautiful. [It might seem like questionable compliment when her tone and expression are so flat, but she truly means it.]
