action ; open base mingle
It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.
prompts:
(These prompts are loose so you can make your own prompts for people to tag out of them. Make headers, tag around, use this post for whatever you like!)
prompts:
→ i. it’s a fixer upper
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.
But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.
Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]
→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.
It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?
If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]
→ iii. it’s like a giant sleepover
[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?
Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.
Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]
→ iv. choose your own/wildcard option
[What else has your character been doing? Go wild!]

That's true. And I am missing... mm. I guess I'm almost not sure. Maybe people more than places, but I think that's always the way it's been.
[His sister, gone so long. Kuroh and Neko more recently left behind.]
You must miss your home too. Or the people in it.
no subject
...Yes. People more so than the place, you're right. [...] It is the same for me.
[Wadanohara. Memoca. Dolphi. Wadanohara most of all--he hasn't been separated from her for this long since he became her familiar. He tries not to dwell on it, but it's Fukami. His mind always drifts back to his sea, to his master.]
no subject
[He thinks it might help, right? To talk about the people they care about? And hear about the people other people are missing.
Memories are clearer when they're shared, he thinks. Or at least, he likes to think. It's strange. He was alone for decades. He got used to not being alone anymore though.]
no subject
[They're low words, that come after a moment of consideration. Fukami turns his gaze away from Shiro, gazing out off over the top of this unfamiliar ocean.]
My master, Wadanohara, and my fellow familiars. Memoca and Dolphi. Wadanohara... is the type of person who always helps others. Who puts them before herself. She protects our sea.
no subject
And well, it would be a lie to say that what Fukami says doesn't pique his curiosity.]
She sounds really amazing. How does she protect it? Your master, I mean? What does it mean that you're a familiar?
[These things sound entirely familiar, Fukami.]
no subject
[His interest is... pleasing. Fukami likes to speak about Wadanohara, surprise surprise. Some topics are sensitive, but his pride in having her as his master is something he doesn't have any compunctions about.]
Familiars like myself, Memoca and Dolphi protect her and help her. Some witches seem to treat their familiars differently; some like servants. But Wadanohara treats us as though we were family.
no subject
[He smiles though, as Fukami continues.] It sounds nice though, having a family like that! I'm glad you do. I'm sure it must be hard to miss them in this place. Were they all sea creatures like you too?
no subject
[Shocking, isn't it?]
Both of them are younger than I. Memoca can be childish and takes games too far sometimes, and Dolphi can be frightened and cries easily. [Especially if you compare her to a shark. Poor thing.]
no subject
[Says the man who spent decades living in a blimp. But he's smiling all the more as Fukami continues speaking.] They sound like younger siblings. Like you're their big brother.
[That's cute. That's really a cute way to picture Fukami. Shiro can see it!]
no subject
[By his tone, it sounds like it's something he's heard many, many times. How could he not have? She doesn't ever hesitate to complain about it.]
...I don't know if I'd call myself their older brother, but I do try to watch them.
no subject
[Shiro informs him. He's smiling all the brighter, downright beaming at Fukami. This is new and fascinating information. He's forgotten about being all wistful right now in favor of being thrilled at how adorable Fukami is.]
I think they're lucky to have you looking out for them. Definitely.
no subject
[Fukami clicks his tongue quietly... But, honestly, he's a little embarrassed by how pleased Shiro seems about this. He ducks his chin down into the water, looking out from under his bangs at him.]
You also seem as though you're enjoying hearing this too much... [Though that's better than wistfulness, he will admit.]
no subject
[Shiro likes learning more about friends. And Fukami is always so stoic and composed, it's nice to find out about another side of him.]
It's kind of a cute thing to learn about you too!
no subject
This is-- hardly something cute.
[His dynamic with the other familiars... Honestly, cute? What might be more surprising is that Fukami's never heard anything like that before. At least, said to him so straightforwardly.]
no subject
[Especially with big tough Fukami being the protective big brother who looks out for his little siblings.
Shiro can picture it too well now that he's thinking about it.]
no subject
I don't particularly understand why, but I suppose you'll not change your mind.
[Grummmble. Quiet grumbling, but grumbling nevertheless. It's true that he looks out for them, though. Saves them from vicious bunnies and other enemies!]
no subject
[Not actually sorry at all. His expression changes in the next moment as he remembers something, eyes widening. Right! He should've asked to start with,] How're you feeling? Are all your arms healed up okay?
no subject
As you can see. They healed up quickly. [...] My thanks again, for before.
