It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.

[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.

But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.

Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]


→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.

It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?

If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]

[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?

Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.

Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]

[Firmly. GOOD JOB, MAI.] ...Many of the stories I know aren't that happy, however. [He doesn't know if they're good to use. Other than that there're probably like fish fairy tales, right.

[Uwahhhh... praised by Fukami, this is a good day. She brightens up further at that, smiling happily.]

That's okay! [SAD STORIES.... she says it's fine with a happy smile--but she's still just really pleased that he's praising her, okay.] I mean... sometimes people like to read sad stories, right? Because...it reminds us to be happy for what we have.

[What a good kid... this is such a good kid... Hey, can you teach Fukami's other kids to be as good as you...]

[She can try.... as best a piece of fluff child can.]

I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, so... I only want to write down stories that people want to tell. So... whatever stories you like best or want to share the most, Fukami-san... I think that would be best.

...I see. Allow me some time, and I'll think of something suitable. [And he'll also figure out how to word it!!] Are you going to put in any stories of your own?

Oh, I... didn't think of that.

The silence drags a little bit more than is strictly comfortable, really, but... she doesn't actually remember any stories, no matter how she racks her brain.

.. M-maybe... if I can think of any good ones...! [Wow, suddenly she's a little nervous sounding.]

...Any that come to mind will be good, I'm certain.

[Though he is looking at her pensively now.

Why does she sound nervous...]

[SHE IS NERVOUS she is definitely nervous, because she likes Fukami a lot, but all she can hear is Orion and what he'd told her over and over again, that she had to keep her amnesia hidden or people would take advantage of her for it, even people she liked.

But.... Fukami wouldn't--

... She looks away, ducking her head.]

...R-right... maybe I'll be able to...think of some. [Unlikely.]

[octoroom]

[Fukami is gazing at her, his expression pensive, his eyes narrow slits. It's not hard to tell that something's on her mind-- despite that, even for how clever he is, he couldn't guess what is making her nervous.]

...Yes. If you cannot, you can always make some.

[upcard]

[Make some... that's not a bad idea, though she'd never fancies herself a particularly creative storyteller. Still... she could even write some storied from her life, right? They've been...Interesting.

What little she remembers, anyway.]

Mm. I'll do my best. [A firm nod, and she seems to be a bit more confident at that.] I want to contribute too, just like Fukami-san and everyone else is... so I'll try.

[octoroom]

[Fukami tilts his head, contemplative.]

Does it worry you? Being able to contribute.

[Does she not think she's doing as much as the rest of them are? He's looking at her, watchful, attentive.]

I...

[What a question... still, there's only one answer she can give, even as she ducks her head, nodding a little painfully.]

Of course... I want to be able to help everyone while I'm here, but... I'm not very good at things like everyone else is.

[octoroom]

[After a moment, Fukami's just going to reach out and lightly place his hand on top of her head. Pat pat. Like she's a child.]

You will become better. As long as you are willing to learn, there will be plenty you will come to be able to do.

[Pause.] And you are helping with what you are doing now.

[upcard]

[O...oh...... headpats.........

She blushes a little at that (and does feel a little bit like a child), though she also doesn't necessarily pull away.]

...I'll do my best. But... please be patient with me.

[Not that Fukami has ever been anything but, but still... maybe it's a statement she had to make.]

... I hope that this helps people. Since we all have to live here... I know the real missions are more important, but I think we should be comfortable too.

[GOOD CHILDREN GET HEADPATS.

Ruffling finished, Fukami lets his sleeve cover up his hand again, inclining his head.]

Of course.

[He's more than patient with people who sincerely try.] I agree with you. If people are uncomfortable and unhappy, it will affect other things.

[She'll treasure it.... even if she then reaches up to fix her hair because cute hair is important.]

Mm... I think so too. [Also she just likes seeing people happy.] I think...we might be here for awhile, Fukami-san...

At first it was a little scary, but now I think...we'll just have to try to make it like home.

[octoroom]

[Oh you young ladies and your cute hair.

Fukami is nodding wordlessly, though-- he's been thinking the same, had assumed the same. That they would be here for a time.]

...Yes. We will manage. We've done well thus far.

[She at least seems to be warming up to this topic.]

Everyone is really impressive, don't you think?

...Yes. In their own ways.

[Fukami eventually nods. He's seen other's capabilities, though he believes not all of what they will be able to do.]

[It's okay, Mai's got enough faith for everyone.]

So...if we all work together, with everyone being this impressive...then I'm sure it'll be fine!

[So much faith, oof...!]

...Yes. I hope that will be the case.

[He'll let her hold onto all of that optimism for him. Well, nothing overly horrible besides that explosion has occurred yet and no-one is trying to open a gateway to a hell sea thing so things are already better than home.]
