action ; open base mingle
It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.
prompts:
(These prompts are loose so you can make your own prompts for people to tag out of them. Make headers, tag around, use this post for whatever you like!)
prompts:
→ i. it’s a fixer upper
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.
But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.
Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]
→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.
It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?
If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]
→ iii. it’s like a giant sleepover
[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?
Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.
Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]
→ iv. choose your own/wildcard option
[What else has your character been doing? Go wild!]

[For some reason, Fukami's voice is more dry and flat than usual...] He uses your same strategy.
[And Fukami has no idea how long he's been doing it so who even knows what he's been shoving in his mouth.]
no subject
Really? Then it's an effective method! Or as good as we're going to get for now. I'll have to ask him, thanks. I wasn't sure who'd be willing to try.
no subject
Wow, that's terrifying.]
...don't worry, I'll make sure some of it winds up cooked, too.
no subject
...That would be for the best. [A pause.] I can help as well.
[He knows what it's like to go it alone, Mikleo. Yes. It's a difficult life.]
no subject
I can cook too! I just thought we'd try it this way first.
no subject
[His tone is really, really dry, but his expression is kind of fond...though he's at an angle where Sorey can't see it and Fukami can. Ridiculous.]
...I'd like to try cooking on the ones you've already sampled, though. Are you free to do it now, Fukami, or would you rather do it another time?
no subject
I'm free, [with a nod.]
no subject
I tried these two.
[He points to the Jelly Plant and Blue Palms.]
The jelly ones taste like, well, jelly, and the blue ones are a little tangy. The jelly plants is more than a little fire proof so I wasn't sure how we'd cook it, but I'm open to suggestions.

[he's not risking losing control of a kitchen fire in the base, thanks]

Pureeing them wouldn't be a bad idea. [...] We could add things to them to give it more flavour and chill it and they might be able to make a dessert.
no subject
[He looks from Fukami to Mikleo expectantly. Dessert.]
no subject
...I don't think anyone's come up with a sugar substitute yet, but we might be able to find alternatives.
[hmmmm indeed.]
Actually, we could try combining them with the Blue Palm? That flavor and the texture might be a decent combination.
no subject
[Fukami nods a bit. NOT A BAD IDEA AT ALL and goodness knows if they keep eating only fish day after day they're gonna get sick of it fast.]
Now, all we need is something to substitute for sugar, and perhaps something else. Something fruit-like.
no subject
[And if for some reason that eludes them, he's confident they can search the Aurora for food supplies. As long as nothing's radioactive.]
I don't think I've seen any fruit swimming around, though.
no subject
We haven't found anything too sweet immediately around the base, but perhaps in the kelp forests, or beyond...? It's amazing how much of the flora and fauna in this ocean is edible, actually.
no subject
It is not so strange. It was more-or-less the same, back in my ocean. [Food eVERYWHERE. It helps when you're an omnivore, as well.]
no subject
Really? This is sort of my first ocean experience, so I'm going off of a lot of assumptions.
[Like the assumption that most of the plants aren't poisonous, so it's good to hear that's probably correct.]
no subject
...on the other hand, Rose did tell use those were edible, so...maybe this is actually normal for oceans?
no subject
If you do not have any reservations about how they look, you will find that most sea creatures are edible. For crustaceans like crabs, the shells can be difficult to break, but they do not taste bad.
[Even octopus but you know what, he's not going to say that. Because he's an octopus. He'll never let either of you taste takoyaki.]
no subject
I think "everything is edible" would have been good to know beforehand. It would have saved us some testing. But, better late than never, right? You haven't seen any crabs around, have you?
no subject
I guess what hasn't been edible has also been pretty obvious about it, with the deadly poison and fangy bits.
[he trails off at Sorey's question. Have there been crabs around?]
