subnautica | action ; open base mingle

It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.

[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.

But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.

Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]

→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.

It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?

If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]

[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?

Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.

Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]

[He gestures with a tentacle and, once her hold on her load is affirmed, he'll lead the way.]

[ Enjoy your non-tentacled duckling, Fukami, she'll be right on your heels. ]

Yes. But I would imagine we're missing many things people would need as well.

[This base is still pretty smol. It's fine because there aren't many of them, but they'll need to remedy it sooner or later, and Fukami is not certain what other things they might need for that.]

And dogs!

[ BECAUSE SISSY IS AN IMPORTANT MEMBER. ]

[After a moment. Cardia. Please.]

[ Look. Everyone is important here. And that is why she's smiling at him, because thank you for acknowledging the corgi. ]

He is important to you, hm?

[Fukami's admittedly not familiar with dogs--look back on their first meeting. However, the attachment is clear.]

Yes... he's the only dog I've met that liked me.

[ THE OTHERS ARE ALL DEAD. ]

Is that so?

Are dogs difficult to get along with?

I don't... think so? I think it's just that most of them see me as a threat.

[ Well, it's not a lie. ]

[Fukami looks over at her for a long moment. A threat. Cardia??]

Why?

... Because I'm a monster.

[ SHE'S JUST GOING TO MUMBLE THIS. ]

...

[Fukami's utterly silent at that. Not a huge deviation from his normal state of being, but this silence is because Cardia just completely threw him off.]

...You are a human, are you not?

... I don't know. There are some things about me that aren't very... normal.

[ THERE'S A GEM IN HER CHEST. ]

[After a moment:] There are other humans here who have less than normal things about them as well.

[Really. They also have non-humans and, of course, Fukami is an octopus and not human at all.]

You would hardly be a monster because of that.

... But what if I... what if everything about me is incredibly dangerous?

[ SAYS THIS PETITE, DOE-EYED OTOME PROTAG VERY SERIOUSLY. ]

You've yet to harm or tried to harm me, as far as I remember.

[Plainly. She's helping him right now...]

That's because I haven't touched you.

[ Okay, Cardia. She does always wear gloves, though... ]

... What would happen if you touched me?

[Since he's getting that sense. However, his voice is just as calm as before, as though hearing this doesn't bother him.]

You'd die.

[ please be a little more concerned about this? ]

I see.

[NOPE, he seems the same as before. But there's a new thoughtfulness in his eyes as he looks at her. He'd die, would he?]

Still, I've yet to die. You've yet to try to kill me. [If she wanted to, she could've by now, if she's really so dangerous.] Therefore, I do not think 'monster' is the best word for you.

Fukami...

[ He's really not the slightest bit afraid, even after that? What if she touched him on accident? What if he was left alone in a tiny enclosed space in her for too long? ]

[Fukami stops his steps then, in order to look at her straight on. He still wears a thoughtful expression, as though he's mulling all of this information over, but he's still doesn't look perturbed.]

... If you are concerned for me, thank you.

[And he smiles, however slight and brief that smile may be.]

... You smiled...

[ HAS SHE EVER SEEN HIM SMILE? ]

[PROBABLY NOT. It's a rare day when Fukami smiles. Speaking of, just as quickly as it came, it's disappeared, leaving his face even once more.]

I do smile, from time to time.
