action ; open base mingle
It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.
prompts:
(These prompts are loose so you can make your own prompts for people to tag out of them. Make headers, tag around, use this post for whatever you like!)
prompts:
→ i. it’s a fixer upper
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.
But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.
Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]
→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.
It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?
If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]
→ iii. it’s like a giant sleepover
[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?
Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.
Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]
→ iv. choose your own/wildcard option
[What else has your character been doing? Go wild!]

[ Politely comforting women, that is; she takes that proclamation without blinking. It's definitely a skill, and someone with ease in personal expression and comfort is no one she'll look down on (unless they're pushing advances where they're unwelcomed). ]
Survival skills are likely more immediately relevant. We could probably find someone to address the hole in the ceiling in exchange for doing a gather run for supplies or foodstuffs, if you're handy at capturing any of the tastier fish in the region.
[ She gently quirks up an eyebrow, giving him a once over. He's not built like someone who's lazy or body unaware. "Survival skills" can come out of some hard lifestyles. She wonders what his story might be, but leaves it unasked. It's ultimately not her business. ]

[he smiles to her as she's been quite stiff for a while with her formal demeanor. her suggestions are relevant, on the other side, and Lancer can't help but agree.]
Yeah, ya can say fishin' and capturin' those fish pique my interest and I tried eatin' some before. It's delicious, ya know. Ya should try it later!

Only when it's welcomed attention from both sides.
[ She reiterates, because it's a problem where she's from, and is what she meant over anything about being easy going. However, there's little point in continuing along that spoken path: there are better things to move on to. Like fish!
Fish is a much better focus! ]
Fish in general, or did you have a specific recommendation from your own hunting efforts?
[ She's far more opportunistic... not a hunter at heart so much as a learned one. Either way, it's a topic she's more obviously relaxed over. ]

So you're sayin' you're not into this? No right?
[He grins for a while before thinking about her next question. He's not quite sure about the names and all, He does not take any special interest to remember all of them anyway.]
Hmm, let's see.. I'm not sure about the name, but as I remember it's pretty big and meaty.. Ya sure try it once I catch another one!

[ Polite, and genuine. She needs friends here, she needs to be friendly (... or she needs to learn to be friendly all over again in a much different environment than the one she's used to handling). It's a bright future, in many ways! ]
Big and meaty... it didn't happen to be one of those flat ones that hides in the sands? Or the ones that have the green glowy bits along their backsides? I'd be glad to try whatever it is either way.
