subnautica | action ; open base mingle

It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.

[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.

But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.

Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]

→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.

It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?

If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]

[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?

Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.

Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]

[But Shiro will relent, holding the tray out so that all the various floating equipment has a place to settle, arranging itself quite neatly. He offers a vaguely sheepish and somewhat apologetic smile.]

Actually, this time it's just me, I'm afraid. Sorry for startling you.

[And trolling him for a second there.]

[ when the floating stuff starts moving on its own again, he makes a squawk of dismay and darts backwards at a rather impressive pace, tentacles curling inwards as he stares at the offending lab equipment fearfully. How is this boy so calm about it all?! It's not Mikleo, is it?! There really is a ghost in the base! Some kind of alien sea ghost. The worst kind.

... Is where his train of thought is going, but then Shiro take responsibility for it. ]

Nyu? [ staring through Shiro's soul right now. ] Just you? What do you mean?

I mean, it's me. The ghost is me.

[WoooOOOOoooo.

Shiro grins brightly though before adding,] That is, I'm not actually a ghost, but I'm the one levitating the things. It's just something I can do. No ghosts are involved. I promise.

[He totally promises. No ghosts or anything.]

[ good thing that Shiro clarifies his non-undead status, because sensei starts turning an uneasy blue pretty quickly when he claims that he's the ghost. All just a misunderstanding, though! Right. He's not a ghost, he's just... ]

In other words, you're... an esper?! [ yes, he's figured it out. He shoots up immediately, looking excited - then immediately shifts to defensive. ] W-wait, before that, you were just picking on me, weren't you?! How rude!

Hmm? No, not an esper. Just a person. Human person anyway.

[Just with a few abilities and a really pretentious sounding title. Shiro does have the decency to look sheepish at that.]

Only a little. [He ducks his head, contritely.] Sorry about that. It just surprised me, and I haven't really told many people here that I can do things like this, or other things for that matter.

If you were surprised, please think about my feelings, too!

[ making fun of this big weenie for being scared was only the natural response, though. ]

Anyway, I've never heard of any human that has powers like that! I thought telepathy was a myth!

Right right...

[Another laugh and a grin he still is trying to convince this guy and himself is sheepish. But really, he made it SO EASY.]

It's something of a long story, but there's a scientific [ISH] reason for it. This is something I can do because I've been granted the power. I guess it seems a little like a myth.

[ now listen here little man. you can't just say "scientific reason" and then follow it up with "i've been granted the power." that's now how this works!! Korosensei squints at him. Maybe. His normal face is pretty squinty as it stands. ]

Hurrrmmm... Well, seeing as I've witnessed it happening right before me, I can't deny what you're saying... Even if that sounds very fishy! [ he's obviously just huffy because he was teased. ]

[That's totally how this works. He's a scientist. You can believe him.

Shiro does blink at what Korosensei just said, before grinning.] That was a pretty good pun, considering.

[EVERYTHING here is fishy! HAHA.] But, let me apologize for getting us off on the wrong foot. Maybe we can start again! [And instead he dips a proper little bow of greeting -- he's learned to be a good Japanese boy despite being an old German man!] I'm Isana Yashiro. But people call me Shiro.

[ well, those are good manners. Maybe Korosensei can let it slide. Just this once. He stares at that possessed cutlery for another second or two before nodding his head towards Shiro. ]

... Sensei isn't so callous he'll turn down your olive branch. Very well, not-an-esper Shiro-kun. [ telepathy sure is interesting. He'll have to watch his back - and hope that it's not something that could be taught to his students when he finds them. ] I don't have a name, but you're free to call me Korosensei, if you like.

[...matter of fact, Shiro sure could bestow this power on all sorts of folks. But he's not the type to take on clansmen. Two in seventy years or so. So Korosensei is probably safe from that.]

It's good to meet you then, Korosensei.

[He offers his brightest little smile here.] Were you heading to the lab too?

[ all this commotion almost made him forget what he was doing. ]

Oh! Yes. There was something I was curious about, so I thought I'd do a little bit of research. But it seems you beat me there. [ he'd like a bit of privacy for this experiment. no, it's not that kind of experiment. he'd rather not have other people learning about his weaknesses on this planet, if he can help it. ]

What were you up to in there?

Research, too. Plant life right now, trying to figure out what the samples we've found are made up of, if they're useful or toxic or edible or whatever they might be.

[He's doing science. Bit by bit he's figuring out the whole marine biology thing.]

That's a good course of action. Especially considering that some people have just been eating things and seeing what happens...

[ ... including him, but it's different when he does it!! he's immune to everything. ]

Mm! That's probably not a good idea for most people.

[Yeah! Exactly! Shiro too! Or at the very least, nothing can really kill him.] Besides, I got scolded for trying that method. [Or if not scolded at least judged. Really hard. By an octopus.]
