action ; open base mingle
It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.
prompts:
(These prompts are loose so you can make your own prompts for people to tag out of them. Make headers, tag around, use this post for whatever you like!)
prompts:
→ i. it’s a fixer upper
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.
But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.
Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]
→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.
It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?
If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]
→ iii. it’s like a giant sleepover
[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?
Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.
Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]
→ iv. choose your own/wildcard option
[What else has your character been doing? Go wild!]

That's okay, if you don't. When you finish collecting all these, you'll know a bunch, right?
[Man he could totally sympathize with the amnesia thing. All too well.]
So then... I'll go first. Maybe Dornröschen... [He considers before nodding.] Sleeping Beauty!

Oh... that sounds like a good story. [An encouraging smile!!] Will you tell it to me?

[He grins and pauses before he continues. He remembers this one.] There was a king and queen who lived in a beautiful kingdom. They had everything they could ever dream of, except they had no children. And they wished and wished and wished for a baby.
Then one day a frog showed up and told them that they'd get their wish. I don't really know why the frog knew, or what he had to do with it, but he's the one who told the queen and he was right anyway. Because they had a daughter. And they invited the whole kingdom, of course, to celebrate. There were even thirteen fairies who lived in the kingdom that they invited. Except, they only had twelve gold plates, so they had to leave one fairy out and not invite her to the celebration.
[A somber shake of his head.] And as these things usually go, that turned out to be a pretty big mistake.

Oh... oh no... what happened?
[SHIT'S GONNA GO DOWN.]

So the party was going really well, and all the fairies lined up to bestow magical gifts on the little princess. Beauty, grace, the love of all those who met her, all sorts of good things. And eleven of them had given their gifts when all of a sudden, a fierce wind swept through the great hall. The thirteenth fairy had arrived.
And she was pretty upset at not being invited. So instead of giving the baby a gift, she cursed her, saying that before the end of her sixteenth year, she'd prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die.
[He lets that hang for a moment for dramatic effect before continuing.] Satisfied, the thirteenth fairy left. Everyone was panicking, of course, but a curse like that can't be undone easily. But since the last fairy hadn't given her gift yet, she could at least soften the curse. And instead of dying, if she pricked her finger, the princess would fall into a death-like sleep for a hundred years.
[A sheepish smile.] So that was better, but not great. So the king didn't want to take any chances, and ordered that every spinning wheel in the entire kingdom to be destroyed and burned. You know, better not to take any chances, right? Except with that sort of powerful curse, even that didn't work.
The princess grew up. And she was beautiful and kind and everyone loved her. But one day, when she was walking through the castle, she noticed a door she'd never seen before, and heard a sound she'd never heard before. She went to find out what it was and found an old woman spinning yarn with a spinning wheel. The princess was fascinated, but no sooner had she reached out to try it herself but she pricked her finger and immediately swooned onto the nearby bed and fell into a deep sleep. Just like death.

Oh no... but she wasn't dead, right? Just asleep?

[Shiro pauses for dramatic effect.] And while the hedge grew, the rumors grew too, of the beautiful sleeping princess who was hidden away in the forest of thorns. Eventually, a hundred years later, a brave prince decided he would brave the thorns and make his way inside to see if there was any truth to the legend. So with his sword in hand, he made his way through the thick thorny hedge. And inside he found everything asleep, and made his way to find the sleeping princess.
And when he found her, she was so beautiful, he couldn't help but want to kiss her. [Another pause.] Which if you think about it is pretty creepy, to just kiss someone you don't know who's sleeping, but I guess that's how fairy tales work. So anyway, even if it was creepy, he kissed her. And since it was apparently true love's kiss, it broke the spell. And the princess opened her eyes. The whole castle opened their eyes! And everyone lived happily ever after!
Except it had to be weird to get used to the world a hundred years later than when you shut your eyes. I mean, a lot changes in a hundred years. I mean, believe me, I know.

Wow... what a beautiful story.
[......................wait what]
... Huh? You... know? What do you mean?
no subject
[A pause and he seems to realize he's said something strange, and offers a sheepish sort of grin.] Well! I mean it has, right?
[Shiro that's not even an answer.] I'm a little older than I look, is all. So I've seen a few things.
no subject
But for that to make sense, you'd have to be... really very old... You don't look very old at all, though!
no subject
[So you know. Not that old. Just... kind of old. It's a long story. But Shiro just shrugs a shoulder.] So old enough to have seen things change quite a bit, I guess.
no subject
[...........................ty?]
... I'm sorry, Shiro-san, I think I misheard you...
[But that's said pretty weakly.]
no subject
[Just a smile like Of course I must have said NINETEEN right? That's all. Old wise ninteen year old man.
Except that's not what he said at all, and he won't exactly deny it.]
