action ; open base mingle
It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.
prompts:
(These prompts are loose so you can make your own prompts for people to tag out of them. Make headers, tag around, use this post for whatever you like!)
prompts:
→ i. it’s a fixer upper
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.
But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.
Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]
→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.
It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?
If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]
→ iii. it’s like a giant sleepover
[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?
Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.
Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]
→ iv. choose your own/wildcard option
[What else has your character been doing? Go wild!]

That's right. This giant pudding was created for the purpose of killing me. [ what's a good way to explain this... he may as well be straightforward, like he was with 3-E when he first met them, he supposes. ] As you may have noticed, I'm not a normal teacher. To put it simply... I'm a monster that could destroy the planet come March. The students of my class were tasked with assassinating me before that happens.
[ a pause to let that sink in. ]
Heheh. Are you surprised? Well, in the end, they decided to try and save me instead of killing me, but for this past year, I've been training them in the ways of both academics and assassination.

A monster that could destroy the planet? Students tasked with assassinating him? People trying to kill him? But he'd been nothing but kind to her and everyone else from day one, despite how everyone had reacted to his appearance, and he was always trying so hard to help everyone with whatever he needed.
He's been right there trying to support her all this time, and he barely even knows her.]
I... Korosensei, you're not a monster...! [Of course that's what she'd fixate on.] Maybe you're...sort of odd looking and... I don't know the circumstances for d-destroying-- [the world... she can't even get that off her tongue, that seems too heavy for her to comprehend.]
... But...! Someone as kind as you couldn't be a monster!
mai is too pure...
You really are a nice girl, Mai-san! Well, if it bothers you that much, I won't call myself that. [ tapping his suckers against his mug. ] Anyway, those are the circumstances in my classroom. It's my job to raise those children into excellent students and high-quality assassins. And they're quite good at it, too!
she has a lot of love to give...for korosenseis...
I... I see... [She wants to talk about how proud he is of his students, because it's cute...but he's proud of how his students are getting better at trying to kill him????]
... I'm sorry, I don't really...understand, but... I'm glad that you haven't been killed.
[Even if he's training them to be awesome assassins.]

[ in fact, his only regret is that he can't spend more time with them - if he could, he'd like to always watch over them. But a teacher has to let his students go at the end of the year. Even so, he's proud of what they've become already. ]
My class - oh, they're class 3-E, that's what they're called! - anyway, my class has 28 students in it, and they're all very different! Each one has their own perspective on life and death, and their own array of tools they use to tackle life's problems, both within the school system and when it comes to assassination! Really, they're wonderful! I wish they were here so that you could see them, too. [ ahem. pull it together, sensei. ] One of them decided to try and make a giant pudding for an assassination. Kayano Kaede!
no subject
[She still doesn't get it, but he's trying to reassure her, so she's not going to question it too hard right now. Instead--]
But...how could a giant pudding be used for an assassination?
[It's....admittedly hard to imagine, as hard as she's trying to (and there's something silly about it, enough so that it takes a bit of the edge off of the fact that this is supposed to be a murder attempt.]
no subject
That's what I thought, too! Naturally, it was suspicious that Kayano-san suddenly wanted to try making a giant pudding at school, but the idea was so exciting that I didn't mind. [ nodding to himself. ] Anyway, I'd always dreamed of eating my way through a giant pudding, so I wasn't about to turn her down... I mean, doesn't everyone have that sort of dream? That's just a natural human desire.
[ if you say so... ]
There was a sudden national surplus of eggs in Japan, and Kayano-san was suddenly struck with inspiration. Instead of throwing the eggs out, she wanted to salvage them, and create an enormous pudding! You would be amazed to see the structure she built to make it, too. The mold was almost 7 meters high! And to keep it from melting, she criss-crossed it with pipes that would pump coolant around! Sensei couldn't believe it! Oh, more than that, she even created a special recipe to keep the giant pudding from collapsing on itself from its weight!
no subject
That's amazing... she must be a really talented student!
[To come up with something like that... Mai can barely create already made parfaits and puddings, okay.]
Did you eat it, Korosensei?
[Obviously he's not... dead...so....]
no subject
[ well. second best. Korosensei finally picks up his mug, too, although he doesn't take a drink yet; he blows on the top of it a little bit cautiously. He just hates burning his tongue. ]
Well, not the whole thing, actually. Like I said, it was an assassination attempt. At the very bottom of the pudding, there was a remote-controlled bomb that she intended to set off once I ate my way down there. Unfortunately for her, I sniffed it out before she ever got a chance to do so. Even though she'd filled up that pudding with all sorts of different flavors, the scent of a handmade bomb was unmistakable to this nose. Nyuhuhu.
[ what nose... ]
no subject
Oh... that's... [BOMBS?? That's kind of frightening, but she has to remember. Different classroom, different rules, and Korosensei seems proud, so...]
Um. [SAY SOMETHING NICE, MAI.] That's a very creative assassination attempt...!
[Nailed it]
no subject
[ apparently, she did nail it, because his response is perfectly enthusiastic. It's hard to say whether he's ignoring her discomfort on the topic or honestly oblivious to it. He leans in, beaming with pride. ]
It may have been an obvious plot, but her ingenuity deserves applause! She put so much thought into the physics, the chemistry, and the flavor experience... And she managed to make it all work, too! Sensei was very impressed. With her skills in planning and organizing, she's sure to have a successful career ahead of her.
no subject
Oh... that's true! I've never heard of anyone successfully making a giant pudding, so she must be very smart!
[What a good student...]
no subject
at her agreement, he nods enthusiastically, seeming thrilled that she, too, can appreciate Kayano's pudding. Although his students are the best, so, really, it's no surprise!! ]
Mm, she is, she is! She's a magnificent actress on top of all of that, too! She only transferred into my class recently, so I consider myself quite lucky to have her.
[ and he means that honestly, despite the... circumstances of her transfer. ]
no subject
Honestly? This is nice to hear.]
And she has a really good teacher, too. [That much she can say for certain now.] Since her teacher cares so much about her and her classmates, I know they must be learning a lot.
no subject
[ he is, indeed, flushing happily, and wriggles some of his tentacles pleasantly with a squishy noise. Considering the attitude most of his students have, he's not used to straightforward flattery like this. And he's totally soaking it up. Don't be fooled by his modesty, Mai.
(but part of him wonders if he can believe those words; if aguri heard this story, would she think the same thing?) ]
Besides, this is supposed to be a story about Kayano, not me! It turns out that she hadn't really wanted to blow up the pudding that she put so much time and effort into, so it was just as well that I found her out. After I ate through the dirt to get at the underground bomb, I divvied up the untouched parts of the pudding and shared it with the class! Paired up with an enlightening lesson on national economics and why surplus shouldn't be used like that, of course.
no subject
But she's more than willing to settle back to listen to the rest of the story (Which only confirms what she'd thought--Korosensei is a really good teacher to his students, isn't he?) and she smiles brightly at the conclusion. What a good story....]
Oh... heheh, what a nice story. [She's smiling a little to herself, thinking about it, and then--] How was the pudding?
[#priorities]
no subject
[ he certainly has a lot of passion for the pudding... but he really did enjoy it. Honestly, Kayano could have served him a tray of burnt cookies and he would have eaten them all happily. Gifts from his students are the best. ]
