It’s been about a month or so since people started arriving to this world and onto the base—a month of shenanigans, exploration, danger, angry sealife and other things. In this still-small base, there’s all kinds of things that characters can do so, therefore, consider this an all-purpose base mingle post.

→ i. it’s a fixer upper
[In the wake of the Aurora explosion, there were quite a few things that needed repairing. Even then, the base itself is by no means complete, with limited room and not even rooms for each and every person. Luckily, there aren’t all that many living in the base! Yet.

But, there’s always something to do. Are you helping with repairs? Trying to decorate the base somehow? Building something new that can add to it? Perhaps you’re one of those in the laboratory, researching what species that this ocean has to offer. Hopefully nothing else is blowing up.

Or are you just standing around, staring wistfully out at the ocean and not contributing at all? I mean, that’s fine, but…]


→ ii. catch of the day
[How’s that seafood? What? You have no idea how to cook it? Well, then.

It’s probably like sushi, where you can eat it raw, right? Or maybe you’re one of those bringing back fresh supplies to the base. Possibly still wriggling around fresh supplies. Can you actually (miracle of miracles) cook some of the fish/other things that are probably fish so that they don’t taste half-bad?

If all else fails, just munch on some seaweed. I hear it’s nutritious.]


→ iii. it’s like a giant sleepover
[Surely there’s nothing awkward about cramming yourself into one of the ‘free’ rooms around the base with your air mattress and curling up there. Have you set out a space for yourself? Found a nice spot where you’re usually alone but uh-oh don't count on that for too long?

Perhaps you’d rather just sleep in the hallway to avoid drifting off near others.

Maybe you just don’t sleep at all or you prefer roaming the base when it gets dark. Nightmares about sea creatures can be a doozy.]

Can I...?

[Fukami frowns slightly at the unfinished question, but he surmises the meaning well enough. He shakes his head.]

No. I am a familiar, not a witch. Though I've come to understand that someone like myself is unusual here.

[forsage]

By yourself, I guess. [ wait. is that rude of him to say? oh shit it could be. add something else, roderic. add more to the conversation. ] Take it you didn't volunteer to come here then if you're by yourself but you got a partner and friends waitin' for ya.

[ because if so - huh. roderic is running across a lot of people here who are wondering how they got here instead of more fellow volunteers. little strange but... yeah, no. it's definitely strange. ]

[octoroom]

I did, in fact.

[SHOCKING. After a moment, and after another mouthful of food, he elaborates:] ...I offered to my master to come here in her stead.

[Doing the work of the sea witch. All of that kind of stuff. That's what he believes, at any rate.]

[forsage]

Huh... Didn't see that coming.

[ roderic has too high of a hairline for his eyebrows to really disappear into them should he raise the brows up in shock. that doesn't stop his eyebrows from trying to disappear because holy crap.

that's a first whenever he brings up this topic in conversation with someone else. ]

And she's alright with that? Because it looks like we might be here for a while with the... state of things. [ UNDERSTATEMENT. his eyes flicker over to the state of the kitchen. it's decent, fukami's amazing cooking is a sign of that, but he can tell that it used to be better. ]

[octoroom]

She's not alone. And... our Sea Kingdom is in a time of peace.

[Fukami folds together two of his tentacles before him, much as though he were folding his hands. Why doesn't he just fold his hands? It's a mystery.]

I admit, I was insistent that she allow me to go instead.

[She's got to stay back there to protect their sea, so. After everything that happened, it was hardly an ideal time for Wadanohara to go cavorting off to other planet's seas either. And she's going to want to wait for her boyfr—former familiar. Shark :\]

[forsage]

Time of peace? Sounds pretty recent with that's worded.

[ roderic himself wants to ask why his tentacles are doing that because hands. but it seems rude so.

he focuses on the other things instead, wondering what exactly she had to do back at the sea kingdom. she sounds mighty important to have fukami come here in her place if she couldn't leave at all. ]

Guess you're here under time constraints then. [ while it wasn't worded in a question, it's vague enough to be one. fukami and roderic were here willingly but a big difference is that fukami still had people to come back to, a place he called home to return. pretty lucky. ]

[octoroom]

[Fukami nods. Definitely recent.]

... To a degree. I must return as soon as things are doing well here.

[Even though all Wadanohara is going to be doing now is resting and waiting back in the Sea Kingdom and is surrounded by supportive people, it doesn't mean he can spend forever here.]

[forsage]

[ he needs to quell a little flare of jealousy he feels at the thought of fukami being able to return home something worth to call home, somewhere apparently settled and peaceful after for so long.

it reminds him that it isn't just himself doing this for himself at least. some others have to go back home for a reason, one or another. ]

Well then. Here's hoping that it everything gets sorted out soon then. [ he raises his cup, the motion hesitant but wants. ] Wouldn't be polite of us to hold ya back just 'cause we bumbled something up.

[octoroom]

...The same goes for me.

[Fukami looks at him with his cup raised before he mimics the gesture.] I would not like to hold back others from returning.

[That being said... hahh. He almost wishes for someone else of his sea to be here. He knows he volunteered (so he believes) to come on his own, but in order to keep an eye on everything, another set of eyes would be useful.

No sense in complaining or grumbling about it, however, he reasons with himself. It's not going to change.]
