Arrival: For Korra

[Kon wakes up the second his body hits the water and it takes him entirely too long to process the fact that yes, he is now somehow submerged in a body of water, and no, he had not been flying over a body of water at all. This is what he gets for flying into swirly vortexes in the sky instead of calling for back up. It is not the first time he's woken up without a clue as to how he got somewhere and it won't be the last, but that doesn't make it any less disconcerting. Even more disconcerting however is that he is just realizing that he is not alone in the water. That is definitely an elbow pressing into his stomach and a knee digging into his side. He blinks stupidly for a second and attempts to disentangle himself from the person (girl???) he'd apparently run into when something else in the water catches his eye.

Something large and not at all man made and heading right towards them and—NO THANK YOU. Kon has seen this movie and he is out of the water and hovering in the air so fast he doesn't even have time to say hello to the (definitely a) girl in his arms who he takes with him without a thought. Chivalry is not leaving ladies behind to be eaten by giant...things.]

What'd, I fall asleep and crash into the set of Jaws 5?!


Base: Open to all (video)

-at is this, like some fancy gadget Robin would—oh hey, is it on? [A face leans into the camera giving everyone a very nice view of a teenage boy with one very stylish fadecut and (one) pierced ear looking like he just walked out of a nineties music video. He steps back when he's sure it's on, eyebrows furrowed for a second before his expression slips into a searching frown.]

Okay so, seeing as there are giant living moving tentacled rock monsters in the ocean, I'm guessing I'm not in Kansas anymore. [Kon's hilarious and would explain the joke to everyone if it wouldn't completely out Superman's identity. Clark ruins all of his fun.] Does anyone know exactly what planet we're on? And what's the deal with this Ursula chick because if she's anything like the one with the tentacles from the movie, I'm not really feeling the trusting her thing. Why does everything here have tentacles...?

I've got about a million questions about what the hell's going on here. Anyone care to fill me in?

[While Kon's directing suspicious glances at the reefbacks, Korra's reaching out to the nearest one and running a hand along its back with a frown. Weird. Though her spiritual senses aren't as strong as Jinora's, Korra could almost swear that they were more like...sea creatures than spirits. Not to mention, everything else surrounding them isn't as...vibrant as usual. Kon's voice cuts into her growing unease, making her look back up again.]

Oh. Yeah. [She eases away from the reefback, resuming her previous scan of the waters.] Hey, you've got the better vantage point up there. Help me look for my staff...I think I dropped it around here when we fell.

Staff? [He stands up from his seated position and begins scouring the water, for not the first time wishing he hadn't lost his Super Vision sunglasses. After a few minutes of searching, he finally makes out something stuck between two rocks that might be a staff.]

That it over there? [He points to an area a few feet to Korra's left.]

[braavado]

[She squints in that direction before shrugging.]

Might be. Guess we'll see. [With no further ado, Korra dives in and swims her way over in that direction. She surfaces just in front of the rocks and hauls herself up. Then, she carefully tugs the staff free.]

Got it! Thanks.

[When she comes out of the water this time, Kon has followed her to the rocks and is hovering a few inches away.]

You good to go now? [For someone who actually loves the ocean, he sure is eager for both of them to be out of it. He's actually starting to come around to the idea that those creatures aren't interested in eating them but still better to be safe.

He reaches a hand out for her to take and waits.]

[The gesture's sweet and all, but Korra has another idea in mind.]

Yup. Good to go. [With a laugh, she flicks the glider open and takes off, soaring past him. She grins at him over her shoulder.] You coming or not?

[Sorry, Kon. But she's not letting herself get carried if she can help it.]

[Kon has zero complaints in the not carrying people department. In fact he would really like blueprints on that thing to throw at some of his less flying-challenged teammates. At the sight of Korra soaring ahead, Kon breaks out into a grin and zooms over to her side.]

Wow, you've been holding out on me. And I thought we were friends. [He says after having met her ten minutes ago. He motions left and right and then fixes her with a raised eyebrow.]

So, where to? Any ideas?

[braavado]

Hey, it's not my fault you never asked. [The corner of her lips tug upward into a smile even as she continues to look ahead.] This is airbending, by the way. Which...I'm guessing is not what you're doing.

[She slows down slightly to look at him.]

Dunno. Even from up here it's just ocean for miles. We could always circle back around later if we don't see anything in this direction. What do you think?

[He has never heard of air bending and will definitely be asking her more about that later, but more importantly-]

Uh, yeah, I wasn't wearing my utility belt with the compass today when I left home. [It's not nearly as much fun making fun of Bats when people aren't around who understand but someone still has to do it.

Kon shrugs and points in a direction.] Let's try this way. [For no reason other than they need to pick one.]

[As expected, the comment flies right over her head, and she just offers a shrug.] Too bad. A compass could've helped.

[Korra adjusts the angle of her glider staff to follow the direction he's pointing.]

Sounds good to me.

[checkoutmyttk]

[And they're off. It doesn't take them too long to realize there really aren't any landmasses nearby but after several minutes of searching, Kon happens to be having a moment of annoyance that has his gaze directed downward and something in the water catches his eye. He comes to a sharp stop and frowns, staring hard at the water below.]

There's something in the water. Do you see that?

[braavado]

[Korra circles around until she's close enough to get a good look. Something glimmers at her in the water--something huge.]

Yeah... [She frowns.] I can't see exactly what it is, though. I'm gonna go in and have a look.

[Twirling her staff with practiced ease, she retracts the glider wings before she drops into the water.]

[Kon sighs and then dives in after her. No reason to risk her checking it out by herself even if she clearly had some moves of her own. He's a little behind her in the water and now that he's under it's easier to see a huge man made structure that looks like some sort of under water tunnel system or...something. He looks over at Korra to see if he can catch her eye.]

Something tells me the giant under water playground tunnels might be a good place to start looking for clues. [Kon is of course, blissfully unaware that he'd broadcast that particular thought in Korra's direction.]

[braavado]

[The telepathic message surprises her, making her jerk back with wide eyes. She stares at him.]

...Kon? [She sounds tentative as she tests this new connection out.] Was that you?

[checkoutmyttk]

[Kon stares back for half a second, his eyes wide and startled, and then he opens his mouth, chokes on a mouthful of water, and swims back up to the surface.

Your resident Superboy everyone.]

[braavado]

[A second or so goes by before the stunned look on Korra's face finally disappears.

Then she creates an air bubble around herself and gives in to the laughter. She'll still be laughing whenever Kon swims back down.]

[SHUT UP KORRA, IT'S NOT LIKE HE'S USED TO RANDOM TELEPATHY OKAY.

He rejoins her a minute later and rolls his eyes at the laughter at his expense. This time when he pushes his thoughts at her, it's intentional.]

Yeah, yeah, hilarious, make fun of the guy who gets startled by spontaneous telepathy! [He might be sulking just a little.]

[braavado]

It's not like I knew about it either.

[There's just a hint of teasing in her tone, but she refrains from poking fun at him any more.

Instead, she gestures at him to come closer, and holds her hand out to him.]

Yeah but apparently you don't need to do the whole breathing thing under water and that gives you an unfair advantage. [For making yourself look like an idiot he means. Anyway!!!]

I can't go that far down so if you wanna check it out, I'll wait for you at the surface. Just call if you need help, alright?

[braavado]

[She rolls her eyes at him, swims up to him, and then yanks him into her air bubble, which she widens to accommodate both of them.]

Better?

Couldn't have done that from the start? [He's glaring but his eyes are amused.]

[braavado]

[She grins at him as she directs the bubble to float back down.] Better late than never?

Anyway... what do you think all this is? [One hand gestures vaguely at the glass structure.] I've never seen anything like this before.

[checkoutmyttk]

Giant sea-fairing hamsters hotel? [There's a startling similarity alright. Kon shrugs.]

I don't know, but it looks like it was built by something sentient, probably people sized. [The word is humanoid Kon. Learn vocabulary.]

I think the better question is why build down here? And where is here exactly? Starting to get the feeling we're a lot farther from home than I thought.

[braavado]

Good question. [The air bubble circles around the structure slowly. Uneasily, Korra turns to Kon.]

I get that feeling, too. I thought this was the Spirit World, but... the spirits wouldn't need to build a place like this.

[Kon shrugs.]

Might as well go inside and find out, right? See an entrance anywhere?

[braavado]

Not yet... [Korra squints at the glass base until something catches her eye.]

Wait. [One finger points at the circular opening just a little ways down.] I think that might be it.
