02. VIDEO
[ rose puts on her most charming smile when she starts recording, beaming into the camera with bright eyes. ]
So, you know, a lot's been happening lately, and I don't know about you guys, but I've been thinking this place is missing something.
[ she puts a finger to her lips and lets a few seconds tick by to keep everyone in Suspense, as if this is some sort of huge and monumental idea. which it is. ]
Can someone tell me why there's no place a girl can get a mug of beer around here? Y'know, a bar? Doesn't anyone else miss alcohol? I know, I know, drink responsibly and all that, but... seriously, nothing? Plus, I'm sure at least one of us knows how to make a decent cocktail.
[ she shakes her head with an exasperated sigh. ]
There has to be some good stuff around here somewhere. I'm not picky. You think URSULA keeps a hidden stash?
[ URSULA, she hopes you can hear her. also, rose knows that the answer is an extremely probable no, but what's the harm in tossing the (still, very low, close to nonexistent low) possibility out there. ]
Everything is just... way too tense. Some of you could probably stand to lighten up a little. So since no one else has done it, I'm proposing the idea of a serious addition to the base.
[ is alcohol even a thing here...... ? it'd better be or else she's going to be kind of pissed? ]

[ someone please call them or else this isn't going to stop anytime soon. someone has to get the last word in and it's going to be her. ]

I'll do my best not to let you down.

You're not so bad, I guess.

['Honesty.' Look it's too amusing a reply to pass up? To him. This really is his vein of humour, Rose...
But he does get a little bit more serious.]
I wasn't being a wet blanket because I enjoy the task. [He just always ends up taking the role.] I'm well aware we can't control other people's choices for them, but I'd like to think as a community we're willing to look out for each other enough that we can put protections on these things. I don't want someone coming to harm from this.
this tag just went places i'm so sorry. 1/2
Do you think I'd ever seriously want to harm anyone? Fine, I guess you have no idea, since we've never met, but: I don't. So maybe I got excited and took it a little too far, but...
Look, Mikleo and I came to a compromise, which is that he and Sorey will help me acquire said alcohol as long as it's kept locked up. Other people had the same general idea, so it looks like that's that. Don't get me wrong, though; the base still needs a silent protector and all, so don't you dare go thinking your job is over. Who knows when that troublemaker Rose will be at it again?
[ her smile is bright, both easy and playful, but it fades into a more pensive expression when she adds to those thoughts, mulling over dirk's words. ]
After getting a feel for this place, I'm starting to realize that everyone stuck here is sort of like one huge, seriously messed up family. With a lot of interpersonal issues. Like, a ridiculous amount. And I'm all for looking out for each other! I've never had a "traditional" family--
[ air quotes ]
-- or whatever a traditional family is supposed to be, and maybe's that's the reason I know that family is more important than anything, good and bad, blah blah, all that sappy junk. Sticking together isn't much of an option in a place like this.
But I never signed up to be anyone's role model, either. Not gonna bother acting like one. Trust me, I don't think anyone wants a role model like me, anyway.
[ there's nothing self-loathing about it. the fact of the matter is that rose has lived a life doing things most other people couldn't bear to handle without succumbing to some sort of corruption. nobody needs to follow in her footsteps; being a vigilante assassin isn't in anyone's best interests. obviously, that issue is a hell of a lot heavier than an argument about the drinking age, but regardless. ]
I don't know what kind of person you are, but it seems like there are other people much better suited to act like one, and maybe you're one of them. Sorey's a pretty good example, and we're best friends.
All I need to make clear is that, teasing aside, I do, in fact, care about what happens around here. Sure, I'm no role model, but believe it or not, I'm not completely irresponsible.

... Alright, well, now I definitely need that drink.

[He doesn't know if Rose is a bad person or not. He just knows that another person, who shared her name coincidentally, had decided to leave too many bottles of vodka behind for his best friend, and she's still dealing with the consequences. He'd do anything to protect Roxy Lalonde, even if it means being a huge wet blanket.]
But I appreciate your point. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

[ being a traveling merchant, rose has seen a lot of different people go through a lot of different things, but addiction hasn't been one of them, and, admittedly, she's never put much thought into it when nobody around her has ever struggled with casual drinking getting out of hand. not even zaveid, and he's had, like, literal thousands of years to build up an alcohol tolerance. rose can't relate to how they feel, even if she was aware of more than roxy's not-so-vague hints. she can do her best to be understanding, though.
that being said, talking to her new gal pal gave her a reminder that this extends past setting a good example didn't hurt. perhaps it's selfish, but rose is glad they met, regardless of the circumstances. ]
-- Oh! Wait! Hold on. Before I forget.
[ rose isn't oblivious to the slight tension, but she's also both nosy and curious, so she pipes up before dirk has the chance to leave. ]
There's this one girl I was texting with just earlier. Roxy. She made a point of insisting everything is locked up good, and however she tried to play it off, I got that she was serious about it. I mean, she said she was asking for a friend, but... Look. I got the message loud and clear, and I don't make a habit of breaking promises. Okay?
[ there's a point to this story, she swears she's going somewhere. ]
After that, though, we just kept on talking-- we got along super well, actually! I think we really clicked!
[ no, she's already rambling. look, she just likes roxy a lot, okay, she promised to teach rose how to be a rogue thief like her and everything! meeting her in person is on her to-do list. ]
So anyway, the entire reason you're hearing this at all is that I just remembered your name coming up. Just once, when we were talking about those goggles for Mikleo. Are you guys close or anything? Seriously, though, she's cool.
[ what convenient timing! ]

Roxy's one of my best friends. She's an amazing person. Even if she can occasionally fall short on subtlety.
[It's good to know that Rose understands the seriousness of this, though. It means that he can appreciate her desire to keep the promise better.]
Her habit of teleporting or voiding through solid matter, on the other hand, can be a little frustrating.
[And that is why he's been especially wary. Because yes, they can keep an eye on the alcohol, and sure, they can lock it up safe. But Roxy is way too overpowered. Everyone in his family is such a pain in the ass to protect for exactly that reason, in fact. And while he trusts Roxy to try her best, he doesn't want to set her up to fail.]
1/2... i'm SO sorry for the novels
then again, so are she and sorey, right? opposites attract, or something like that. it's not like you just go ahead and hand pick your best friend. best friends just happen, and rose knows how important it is to protect them. at this point, she'd protect sorey with her life. if dirk is this serious about roxy, then that's something rose is able to relate to, and that gives her a bit more clarity. between just plain liking roxy and knowing how it is when you want to protect someone close to you, there's a good chance rose is more serious than she would be compared to a total stranger. what kind of person that makes her is irrelevant. ]
It's sort of hard to read her typing, but I managed. For the most part. The teleporting, voiding thing, though...
[ it's like a lightbulb goes off in her head, and it shows in her expression. now she gets it. she thinks. it's still sort of a lot to comprehend. ]
I swear Roxy tried to explain it, but that's the one thing I just... it seemed too complicated to even begin to decipher, and-- I get why that might be a problem, huh.
[ rose considers it for a moment. there's no doubt that that's a little tricky, a lot trickier than just a lock and a hidden key. roxy can do anything with that, can't she? rose sort of feels like crap for not getting it when roxy told her, but there's no point in dwelling on something so trivial as long as there's a solution.
she really, really should have just thought this through, though. there's no denying that much. ]
Maybe Mikleo can do something besides keep an eye on it. I don't know, like... hide it, keep the stuff frozen when we're not doing anything with it? What with all the ways he can manipulate water, I'm sure there's something else the two of us could come up with. Unless you have any better ideas-- and you might-- none of the other seraphim are here, so Mikleo's elemental stuff is all I've got besides the power of sheer human determination.
... Unless Roxy can breathe fire, too. Crap, that'd screw up the idea of freezing it. I'm gonna go ahead and assume she can't, though. Feel free to correct me.
2/2
[ rip. she has no clue how to say she's sorry for this sloppy mess. she probably won't be later when sorey and mikleo get into it but that's way later and this is now and she's sorry NOW! so about that fire breathing. ]
no subject
She can't breathe fire.

... Well. That's a relief.
[ y... eah. ]
