Feel free to ignore this until after the festivities, but since November starts tomorrow, I thought I'd ask what everyone is interested in including in the island base. Or what structures you would be interested in seeing around the island. So far all that we have planned to my knowledge are the watchtowers - the farm seems to be coming along and we should maybe consider fences or whatever there, but otherwise we don't actually have anything really set in stone.

You should feel free to throw anything out there, and to respond to anyone else. I'll just gradually be collecting the ideas from here and drawing up plans for you all, so long as what you're suggesting is actually within our power to do. But all things considered, I think most things are. This should also give everyone a chance to team up with anyone else who is doing something they wanted to do.

In terms of things I'm doing other than the watchtowers, an aboveground track and training area is something I was personally interested in. To start us off.

uh. I feel like I should make another norse joke about, like. a grand meeting hall or some crap. oh, we need a foodcourt with restaurants. like a falafel place.

No, I don't want to take over the farm and I don't know all the seeds we have on hand. I was hoping for plots for medicinal herbs, herbs for cooking, spices... something along those lines. I'm still researching how farming works in general, especially with this climate.

I don't want to put all the work on others for what I want, so I'll try my hand at it, too.

You admittedly could ask Dirk about that, although I feel we're pushing the sci-fi angle a little hard if it comes to that. Though the skeleton dancers may need new jobs anyway?

I feel like the whole underwater base on what may or may not be an alien planet already pushes the sci-fi angle. beam me up, scotty.

I would also like to second the idea of an amusement park or fair ground. It would be a nice place to visit. We could also maybe have festivals there. Maybe something in time for New Years?

Food and water storage? Like ration packs. And shelters. For emergencies.

[He's saving that too? Grover in a wedding dress will never stop being funny (now that he's not in danger of being eaten by a cyclops) and Jack sure is a Thing that's happened to them so these are good decisions.]

Hm. If you win, I'll actually tell you what I think the base really should have. When I win...it's a surprise :)

A waterfall would make for a rather pleasant installation.
More seriously, some might appreciate an astronomical observatory. Not myself, mind, but it might be handy? Or just a good way to have a look at the stars.
A library building as previously suggested would be nice, since while the base library is sufficient a whole building dedicated to books above ground could be handy. As would storage for in the event that the base collapses and leaves us all stranded.

Not to fall too much into triaging relativism, what's important is what's bothering people on the base. I don't mind having things jump the line if it's bothering you.

I think expanding on what we have is probably a safe bet. We figured out how to get fresh water or some of the islands, so that's a start! I can help out some, too, I'm pretty good at building things. A training area could be pretty great.

It's a way of assessing a situation where a number of people are injured. Triaging determines the order in which you save people based on the urgency of their injuries.

thanks for organizing all of this!!! we have a lot of stuff in the underwater base already, but maybe we can move some of it up onto the island. we've had some flooding during hurricanes before and it would stink if all of the books or the food supplies were ruined because we didn't move it above water.

I think I get it. You get to make a judgment of what needs to be handled first, based on the most difficult and dangerous injuries being handled first. So here... it's the more dangerous situations? For people's well being?

That would be exactly it.
In our cases, we tend to make our decisions based less on danger than on someone really wanting a water slide.
