open mingle: 11/4-11/11 (or whatever. follow ur dreams)

[ NEW MONTH, NEW US. Are you attempting to figure out ways to solve Naoko and Jenn's respective problems? Helping to make the base island nice and fancy? Or any other type of shenanigan that isn't listed above because I don't know your life and am not privy to every single bad idea to come across the crew? Well, it's time to make all of that happen here!

Anyway have fun and use this for threading. Make sure to check out the November OOC post and there is also a CR meme up. THAT'S IT, HAPPY SCORPIO MONTH!!! ]

There's a series of coordinates I would like to investigate. I believe it maybe connected to the events of last month. [ the awful last month that ada will never speak of ever again, thanks.

where was she? oh yes. ]
It may or may not end at a chain of small islands that we haven't come across before. Is there anything you'd like me to keep an eye out for while I'm there? Specimens? Certain phenomenons?

Document any new life you come across, but most importantly, take one of the microbial scanners and scan everything. No matter how insignificant it looks, scan it. Even if it's a lifeform we've seen elsewhere on the planet.

I'll show you how to use one.

[ ah. she hadn't thought of doing that.

it would be useful to do considering this was a foreign planet. settled or not, there must be a few nasty surprises waiting for them if they weren't careful. ]
Understood. If we can meet now so I can learn the use of it, that'll be great.

[ and she arrives as promised, a dufflebag slung over her shoulder so she can collect the scanner and other things from here. just in case. never hurts to be prepared when one is travelling out to the unknown in search for the unknown. something, something than sorry.

she raises her hand in greeting as she approaches, inclining her head as she speaks. ]
Hello. I'm Adaline.

I take it that you're the one I was speaking with earlier? [ or texting. whichever works. ]

[ Working hard or hardly working?

Definitely the former. Valentine rolled her chair out from the microscopes and petri dishes she was examining and stood up. She cut a striking figure with her blue hair, skimpy uniform and her six feet of height, but right now she was holding out her hand to pass the scanner to Adaline.
]

Valentine. That was me.

[ huh. definitely wouldn't be hard to miss someone like her after their meeting. it's comforting to see someone else of similar height here and… interesting to see the rest of her attire.

(also- eve, calm down. there's a reason why ada is doing this and not you.)

ada nods as she takes the scanner, taking a moment to look at the parts of the scanner and if there was anything of note that should jump up to her right away. ]
Pleasure to meet you.

Thanks for offering this quick run-through on the thing. It'll make scanning the area easier. [ none of her try-and-true 'smack and see what happens' method. ]

Yes. We should thank Donatello for this much. [ Her smile was tight, but apparently genuine. She was pleased that someone more proficient with machines than she was had actually tried to make something useful for the biological side of things here. ]

It's not too difficult to use. Point it at the lifeform and press this button here. [ She gestured. ] A single press will give a quick scan. Keep it depressed for the duration of the scan to have a more in-depth one. As it's still new, scan everything at least twice, and three times if you use a quick scan for one of those times.

The readout will show here. [ She tapped the screen. ] If you don't know what you're looking for, just know that red means danger - which so far means the presence of the Shroom Sickness and other pathogens like it. Orange means that something the scanner thinks is risky is there, and green means it's safe.

Be aware that these should be guidelines only at this point, and proceed with due caution. Got it?

Got it. [ really.

it was a lot to take in at first but her brain caught up with the words and she soon began filing away the most important notes to take.

a quick review of the most important things to remember about the scanner: one press equals a quick scan, holding down equals a more in-depth one. red, orange, and green are the levels of possible toxicity or risk in the current environment the device is scanning. (with red being dangerous, of course, and green being safe.) be sure to double scan to make sure the results aren't a total fluke the first time around.

alright. got it, as she had just said. she looks up after carefully examining the machine, grateful she was discussing this with someone of her height so no need to look down or up so much.]

Should I test this device here so we have examples of results under controlled conditions? [ it wouldn't hurt to make sure while there was still time to work out the kinks of these things. ]

I can only give you known examples, so it won't mirror the results in a new biome.

[ Crooking a finger, she led Eva over to a petri dish sitting on one of the work stations. ]

This is a sample of the Shroom Sickness. When I open the lid, preform a scan.

[ No beating about the bush; she opened the lid. ]

To the point, huh?

[ well, it'll definitely reflect what'll most likely happen if what she suspects is on the islands is actually on the islands.

better to be prepared to be on one's feet. so sucks it up and points, pressing down once to check to see what a quick scan would look so she can compare it to that of a more thorough scan. ]
inject: (pic#6618990)

[personal profile] inject 2016-12-15 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The look she gave her said it all. No point not being so.

The quick scan, attuned to seeing the Shroom Sickness, blipped up with the info that the pathogen was there. The name flashed up. That was about it.

A more thorough one showed the concentration and the likelihood of contamination in the current atmosphere.

[ huh. it's pretty interesting to see it all happen right in front of her. this almost reminds her of some technology back home and that's a bit of a comfort to her.

when she finishes up reading the scans, both quick and thorough, she shuts off the device and gives a nod of thanks to valentine. ]
Thanks for showing me how to use it. This is going to be useful when we're there.

[ she could just end their conversation there and leave her be but- ]

-Do you want me to bring you back things from wherever I'm going besides data?

There could be plants, herbs, animals, and rest of that nonsense. [ hey. those things could be useful in the lab if they can find a way to make them out of… something by the what-have-you.

look, chemicals and science isn't her field of expertise. thank god for people like valentine being here. ]

[ she nods in agreement, seeing nothing wrong with that. ] I will then. Here's hoping something useful comes up.
