A while back, neither did I. Turns out it's a really rare talent.

[Bolin chuckles and wanders over to Percy, putting an arm around his shoulder.]

You and me both. I sometimes miss the days where it was just me and my brother in the Pro-Bending circuit. No angry spirits or crazy assassins.

[expulsions]

Rare like metalbending? Korra was going to start learning that too, I think. [Or at least that's sort of what they figured when he had spoken to her about the rare metal he found at the Aurora.

On the other hand, he doesn't seem to care about the amicable arm around his shoulder. Percy's used to it by now from people and Bolin's hardly a threat, so it's fine.]

I didn't know pro-bending was a thing. What does that even mean?

[bolin_rocks]

Start? What do you mean start, she already... Oh. Yeah.

[Haven't been to Zaofu yet. He does get excited when Percy asks and pulls back so he can stand in front of him.]

It's an amazing sport! You need three benders. A water, fire and earth bender. And the objective is to use your bending to knock the other team back into their sections.

[While describing this, Bolin uses his Earthbending to carve an indent into the ground between them that shoes two sides, each with three sections.]

[expulsions]

[A sage nod. Yeah. That. The time difference thing again. That's a pretty big problem. But he lets it go because Bolin seems excited to explain this thing.]

So it's like an actual arena fight. That's pretty cool. [He's watching the ground, studying the drawn diagram.] But why those three? What about airbenders?

[bolin_rocks]

Well, when we were pro-bending players, there were only four Airbenders in the entire world.

[No longer the case though.]

They've returned, though.

[expulsions]

In the entire world. [That's really hard to imagine...] How can they return out of nowhere? What happened to the other airbenders besides those four?

[bolin_rocks]

I don't know 'how' beyond it happening after Korra left the Spirit Portals open. And... Uh, there was a war a long time ago where the Fire Kingdom had wiped them out.

[expulsions]

Now you're just saying a lot of things that don't make sense. [None of this was ever mentioned to him...] So what you're really saying is that everything used to be peaceful until this fire army attacked. What was their deal?

[bolin_rocks]

Best answer I can give you there was that the Fire Lord at the time was kinda, really crazy.

[Maybe he should draw a flowchart.]

[expulsions]

[...that's fair. He seems to nod like he immediately understands, not at all bothered suddenly.]

We've dealt with a couple of people like that in the last few years. The titans and the giants and Gaea were all kinda really crazy, too. Dangerous, but crazy.

[bolin_rocks]

See, when you say that, I imagine really big things. Is that about right?

[expulsions]

Probably depends how big you're thinking. But yeah that sounds about right. Is that weird?

[bolin_rocks]

Probably not as weird as some might think, but I've seen some weird stuff. You guys must be pretty powerful if you were able to deal with them.

[expulsions]

I guess you could say that. [How to elaborate without making it weird...] Most of us have been training for a really long time for this kind of stuff. It's what heroes do in our world. [Normally he wouldn't outright call himself a hero, but it's true. They're all heroes.]

[bolin_rocks]

Well, I'm honored to be buddies with a hero. Wait, so you know how to fight, right?

[expulsions]

[He can't help but smirk a little as he reaches into the pocket of his jeans and pulls out what looks like an ordinary pen, settling for twirling it around his fingers.]

That's part of training, yeah. Some of us learn how to be archers and some of us work on swordsmanship. I've been fighting for a couple of years now. [Five, specifically, but who's really counting?]

[bolin_rocks]

You and I, should totally spar!

[Bolin stomps up a stone chunk, holding it just above his hand.]

I mean, have you ever fought a bender before?

[expulsions]

[He keeps his eye on the chunk of rock, not too worried about it but there's a slow smirk. He recognizes opportunity when he sees it.]

You're on. I don't think we'd call them benders where I'm from, but a lot of us where I'm from can use different elements to our advantage. My friend Jason can summon lightning and Leo--[He falters for a moment. Leo...right.] Leo could use fire to do whatever he wanted. Stuff like that.

[bolin_rocks]

Huh. But you didn't call them benders? Interesting.

[Bolin leans in and nudges his buddy in the ribs gently.]

So... Sometime in the near future, me and you, one on one?

[expulsions]

Well no. Why would we call them benders? [This is a genuine question here. But he lightens up anyway and allows for the rib-jabbing.]

You're on though. We'll go a couple of rounds and we'll see what your rocks can do.

[bolin_rocks]

Well that's... Just what they've always been where I come from.

It's a date then! I mean a fight date. Not a date date.

[expulsions]

Same thing, different names. [He can roll with that. He grins though.]

You don't have to specify, dude. If it was a date date I think you'd have to take that up with my girlfriend. Just say when and we'll try it out.
