[Wowee! We get hit with a pulse on the seventh! Isn't that fun! Also, a ship crashed, and baby it's cold inside. Some prompts.

A: Pulse: A pulse hit the planet! Life support went out, and that super sucks, but it will only last for an hour. Maybe more sucky: some or all of your powers may or may not have died! That's awkward. Are you disappointed you can't walk through walls now? Has nothing changed for you? Are you now a dead girl because you made a deal some aliens? Are you a sword? Have fun kids, and try not to hold a Class Trial.

B: Salvage: That sure was a ship that went down! URSULA identified it as the Narcissus which is apparently a human military ship so obviously this will be safe and no one is going to come across any type of trouble salvaging the ship. Maybe someone should text Naoko to tell her what's going on. Everything is fine.

C: Blanket-sharing meme: You know what you're here for.

D: ETC: Roxy is putting up mistletoe, there are flowers, people keep building stupid things. Do whatever!]

[Kon groans, still rubbing his head even as he continues to try to will himself into the air. (Spoilers: he fails.)]

Eh, Hotaru? [He drops his hand and shakes his head, doing his best not to wince. That's definitely gonna be a lump.]

Dunno. My TTK isn't working. [He pauses and focuses on his hearing.] None of my powers are...what the hell? [More than anything else, he looks baffled by this discovery. It's not the first time it's happened, but there was a catalyst last time. Like a clone disease and almost dying and life saving surgery. He is pretty sure none of that happened while he was midair.]

[ Hotaru looks at her hands. She'd offer to heal the bump, but... ]

I don't think any of mine are working, too. The last time life support went out there was a hurricane and... it was different from this. I wonder what caused it. I don't see why that would affect our powers.

[ She's fine being without her powers because it's not something she's fully accepted as part of her identity yet, but she's sure it's not the same with others. ]

Will you be okay?

Yeah? Wait, you've got powers? [He blinks, trying to remember if he knew that. Not the important thing right now but he can't help his curiosity.]

Yeah, it's a pain but it's not the first time it's happened. Last time it was for months. Guess this doesn't have to do with any of that though if it's not just me...

I do. I can heal, but... people at home thought it was creepy, and I thought people here should know about the chance of an evil alien attacking them than... that. [ It's hard to shake off a childhood of being shunned for something you could do but didn't know why. She also awakened as Sailor Saturn yesterday, but she's still wrapping her mind around that. ]

Months? That's a long time. What happened?

Creepy? [He snorts.] 's nothing creepy 'bout helping people. Seems just like the sort of thing you'd be good at.[It fits her perfectly. It would be a lie to say he'd give up his current powers for the ability to heal, but sometimes he wishes he could do that sort of thing. He hates seeing his friends get hurt and being able to do jack shit about it.]

At first they didn't know what it was but it turned out to be nothin'. I just burned my powers out real fast doing some stuff and they took a while to come back. Nothing like this time.

Powers are fine if you're a superhero saving people from monsters, but if you're already a weird girl, it only makes you weirder. [ That's how she explained it to herself since it's not like she could ask the classmates who wouldn't talk to her that question. ] I want to be a doctor someday... even without my powers, I want to be able to help people. I want to find out why someone's sick and help them get better.

[ It'd be lie to say it were for purely selfless reasons. A childhood of frail health also steered her in this direction. ]

I didn't know your powers could get tired out like that, but it makes sense if your powers are like any other part of you. You have to rest them like muscles.

[He frowns at that assessment and the way she calls herself a 'weird girl.' Sounds like she's been around some pretty lame people.]

Never underestimate weird, I bet most superheroes are called weird by normal non-super people. [He frowns then, shaking his head.]

It's not normal for me. There was this thing that happened...it's a long story. I kinda got aged up because of some magical hijinks going on and then when I got back to normal it drained my powers. Definitely nothing like that happened here.

[ She's censoring her classmates. They call her a freak, so she used a nicer descriptor.

Hotaru gives Kon a look like what the heck goes on in your life and how does that make sense in context when she's barely following out of context? ]

It doesn't sound normal in general... to be aged up magically or not. Did you have your powers when you were magically older?

[Kon will punch them all. Except not because they're like 12. Soft punches?]

Yeah, my life's kinda abnormal. [At her question he shrugs and then nods.]

I did. The whole thing was...weird. I got sick for a while, like, real bad. They found a cure but the cure made me stop aging. I was stuck at 16. Worse things could happen, right? [There's a little false levity injected into that last comment.]

Anyway, then the magic aging up thing happened and it sorta unstuck my age thing. I guess all of that just took a lot out'a me so that's why my powers disappeared for a while. They should totally make a sitcom about my life, right?

[ No punching?? Hotaru doesn't want Kon to get into trouble. ]

Oh, no, that must have been so rough for you. I'm sorry that happened to you, and I'm glad you're better now. I could see a movie or TV show being made about you, but instead of being a sitcom, it'd be a story about overcoming abnormal obstacles and flying high.

[ She knows he was trying to joke about it, but she's going to awkwardly but seriously answer it. ]

[It's probably a bad idea to punch children anyway. Un-heroic or something.

He offers her a shrug and a grin. The truth is he doesn't want to think about that whole mess for reasons that have nothing to do with how weird it was. It's all too closely connected to his girlfriend's death since she had been killed during that whole fiasco. He can't think of one without the other, which is why he latches on to the change of subject in a heartbeat.]

It's no big. You know there was a Superboy cartoon! It was seriously lame but that's because Rex—my ex-manager—was the one in charge of it. How 'bout you, what'd your movie be about?

You had a manager? I didn't know superheroes had or needed managers.

[ That's somehow unexpected, and Hotaru is likewise latching on that so she can put off thinking about how depressing a movie about her would be. ]

Yeah, I guess most don't? [He laughs under his breath.] Rex just kind of happened...he didn't do much managing honestly, but I lived with him, his daughter Roxy, an' my mentor Dubbilex. They were kinda like family. [Really dysfunctional weird family.

He doesn't really catch that she doesn't answer the question. He's pretty confident her movie would be a hell of a lot more heartwarming than his though. If it wasn't, it needed a new director.]

So you think we should be worryin' about this powers thing?

A family is much better than a manager.

[ It sounds nice to her, to consider the people you live with family like that. Hotaru's father's assistant tried to manage Hotaru's life, and Hotaru did not like the older woman for it. ]

I think we should wait a day or two before we should worry too much. We should look into why it happened, but... if our powers come back soon, it should be okay?

[ It's a reprieve for her, so she's biased. Her opinion will do a full 180 when she finds out Hajime dies without her powers, however. ]

Yeah...[It's a response to both things she's said and Kon lifts his hands to frown at them before shaking his head and turning his gaze back to her.]

Pretty annoying though...just hope nothing bad happens while I can't do anything. [Which is a little bit morbid but he can't help it. He hates feeling useless.]

And I guess I'll have to get used to being a slowpoke. [It's easy to cover his unease with humor. It always has been for him.]

We're all in the same situation. It'll test our true survival skills.... [ They're in the same morbid boat. ] And we're not completely defenseless. I know there are a ton of drones for that. [ She is pretty sure Dirk hasn't stopped making them. ]

But your slowpoke speed is probably faster than my fastest. [ That's a positive? Right? ]

['True survival skills.' That sounds awful. But she has a point with the drones, even if Kon will still be useless at least it's not like they're totally defenseless, like Hotaru said. ]

Yeah...yeah guess that's true, it's a good lesson or something. We can be slowpokes together then.

It won't... be so bad. We'll be fine.

[ Hotaru sounds a little unsure. She's not the best at comforting when she's trying to be comforting, and the mantle of a hero is a heavy one. She's not sure that Kon will think or believe it isn't bad, but she doesn't want to be negative in front of him. ]

[If anything, the lack of conviction makes him more intent on making her more sure. He shouldn't be the one asking her to make him feel better. He's supposed to be a hero.]

Yeah, you're right. Between the drones and the fact that I still got my totally-human-level-but-no-less-sweet-muscle strength, there isn't anything to worry about. [He grins at her and motions his head towards the kitchen.]

You wanna come grab a bite to eat with me?

[ Kon's vanity, joke or genuine, gets a laugh out of Hotaru. She's game to go along with it and smiles. ]

Yeah, something in my stomach might make me feel stronger. I think there's still a lot of mushroom soup left.

[That's what he was going for. (Not that his muscles aren't totally sweet.]

Great, let's go check it out. [On a whim he gives her hair an affectionate tousle probably more appropriate for a child younger than her, but he simply can't resist. He hasn't spent much of his life around anyone her age or younger and he hates it when anything dampens her smile.]

[ That stuns her for a second. She's still and then her face lights up with a radiant smile. It's not physical affection she's used to anymore with her father locked away in his lab 90 percent of the time. Hugs have been growing in frequency lately, as have handholds and fist bumps, but not hair ruffles.

There's the smallest skip to her step as she follows Kon to the kitchen. ]
