March Intro: Head First

≡U.R.S.U.L.A. NAVIGATION

Arrival!
It was supposed to be a routine mission. Maybe you think you’ve been here for a bit or maybe you just arrived. Either way, you know there was supposed to be a completely normal underwater mission, probably just gathering resources, unless you just arrived, in which case welcome!

Unfortunately, somehow you’ve been dumped somewhere you shouldn’t be. A woman’s voice can be heard, robotic in tone with hints of emotion. That emotion mostly seems to be mild surprise.

"Life signs detected. Life forms are non-native to this planet. They... oh. Oh dear, I wasn’t prepared after all. Please refrain from dying for a moment. Your things are incoming."

Your eyes open underwater. At least you're near the surface. But the moment you break through you'll notice one thing: the ocean, stretching out for miles around you in all directions with no end in sight and only a very distant gleaming metal structure in the far distance. You're not alone but this surely isn't what you expected. In fact, you really can't understand how you managed to get from where you were to underwater so fast.

None of your belongings are with you save the clothing on your body. And the depths below you offer no comfort, the light engulfed before it can reach wherever the sea bottom is.

Somewhere, you hear a sound shaking through the water, like something between a whale and a foghorn.

No turning back now.

Prompts!
A: WHALE OF A TALE
As it turns out, there is hope for those who can't swim or get help from someone who can. Something emerges from the depths, a massive bed of coral that makes that strange sound, allowing people to climb on top of it. Of course, that bed of coral is actually the back of a massive creature that moves how it pleases and occasionally dives back down underwater.

There is a pod of them around the area calling to each other. They're friendly, or at least they don't seem to mind any poking or hangers on. But one of their long tendrils may still give you a good whack on accident.

If you’re really lucky you can probably ride one all the way back to the base. Wouldn’t that be a fantastic entrance?

B: HELP ARRIVES
At least, some assistance arrives. Strange little robots on propellers arrive fifteen or so minutes later, rushing to the scene carrying a floating bin of some sort. They drop it into the ocean and buzz excitedly around it in the hopes of luring people over.

Inside the bin are goggles, breathing devices and knives enough for the new arrivals. The knives have a compass on the hilt that has a marker for the direction of the base. One robot will play a helpful recording from the robotic woman for those getting their gear:

"Please deposit any articles of clothing getting in the way of swimming in the bin. We will be sure they arrive safely at the base. Do not try to swim in anything that will bog you down."

A pause.

"Swimming nude is not recommended. There can be... unpleasant issues. For future reference, please consult me before going on missions like this."

C: UNDER THE SEA
Of course, there's no reason to rush right to the base. This place is certainly beautiful in its own right and has a few caves to explore - watch those stingers hanging from the ceilings - with an abundance of strange and wonderful fish eager to either play with you or dart away as fast as possible. Of course there's plenty of Reefbacks still calling to each other and a large amount of floating rocks with Floaters attached.

D: MATING SEASON
On second thought, maybe heading to the base is a good idea. Occasionally you might see plumes of dust near the ocean floor. Exploring these is a very bad idea. The moment you get close, a Sand Shark will explode out of the sand, ready to attack. They range from five to eight feet in length and will pursue you without mercy. At least they give up if you get near the surface or hide in the right caves.

Unfortunately, it's mating season. That means dozens of them can appear at any time trying to court a female with acts of aggression and skill. And you really don't want to be in the middle of that.

E: HOME SWEET HOME
You did it! You made it to the base. You are probably dead tired by now having swam quite a long distance—or somehow riding a Reefback all the way here—and the sun is beginning to set. Upon arrival, URSULA will welcome you and give you a quick rundown of the lockers (where your personal items can be found, as safe as if you stored them there yourself) and the base's layout if you’re new. She will also recommend that you put on your communication device and settling in. She will then just as quickly apologise by saying that she must finish preparing the base for the others.

"Please give me a few days to finish retooling the base. Oh, I'm so excited. We're going to make a great team, I promise. And don't go back to that biome yet until mating season is over. Sand Sharks are... troublesome."

F: WILDCARD
The ocean is yours to explore! Maybe your characters will find places to take breaks. Maybe they'll start gathering things. Maybe they'll murder fish! Or maybe they'll get lost in the dark and take a rather long time to find the base. Or just crash the kitchen for some of that delicious fish, more fish and seaweed! It's all up to you!

See the Biomes page for the currently accessible areas or details on current wildlife and the Base page for all your base needs. Direct any questions and plotting to the OOC post and have fun!

It is not surprising. Antarctica is very isolated. The ice is not forgiving. [She moves her big head, looks out at the scene around them.]

Nor is the ocean.

[Faintly:] Yes.

[She lowers her clawed hands and clasps them together in her lap.]

It seems that I must.

[Oh my god. Mikleo waves his hands in exasperation by the locker.]

How am I supposed to--why are you even--why would I eat you? Gross!

[...it's possible the last sentiment is intense and indignant enough that he'll broadcast it telepathically...what a way to establish communication.]
imsorey: (Let your faith die)

[personal profile] imsorey 2016-03-05 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Sorey can hang in there, he has endless wells of caring!]

That's okay. Thanks anyways. Are you planning on sticking around, or looking for a way back where you came from?
forsage: (006. • like old headlights.)

[personal profile] forsage 2016-03-05 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Water. You almost look dry as Daisy's chew bone. Funny, that.

[ is that a suppressed smile on his face? maybe. maybe not. it's hard to say since it could simply be a grimace at the antics before him but stranger things have happened.

like getting a humanoid octopoda agree to be sketched out while they debate about their pose. while he's mighty tempted to ask 'mysterious' to see what that meant, roderic simply goes, ]
Whatever is more natural for you. I'm already askin' a lot from ya by doing this so do what you wanna do.
oneandmikleonly: (when you decide.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-03-05 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
H-hey, don't just--

[Mikleo facepalms. Why does no one listen. Why do people think it's a good idea to duck underwater? Even if they're not hellions, there are so many things with teeth.

After a moment's deliberation, he takes a deep breath, nerving himself up, and then ducks down under the surface, following. Hopefully this human can continue to tell he's got company...!]
tentaculled: (tentacaged)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-05 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ looks are mighty deceiving brocotopus. ]

... Eh? Born with them? [ in a tone of voice that says "how bizarre," despite the fact that he, too, is covered in tentacles. Curious - and mildly disbelieving - he sinks back under the water to get a better look at Fukami's 'arms,' even reaching out to poke one with one of his own.

It's a little rude, but this is important, okay!! ]
tentaculled: (tentacrap)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-05 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[ A DISEMBODIED VOICE he's practically shaking in his metaphorical boots by now. ]

-- Yes! That's right! G-Gross! I'm gross! So leave me alone, please...!

[ he doesn't even believe in this kind of thing, but at the moment, it feels real.... ]
tentaculled: (tentaclaim)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-05 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
An AI can only do what it was programmed to do. URSULA seems like an awfully talented lady, but she can only do so much with the tools she was given, so to speak!

[ he has a robot in his class, so he understands. Peridot's attitude doesn't seem to bother him very much. ]

That aside, you called yourself an expert. What are you an expert in? Sensei is curious.

[Speaking of sunset and the sea...

Ibtisam arcs gracefully through the water, the fins on her legs fluttering at full extension, wider and gauzier than they had to be when she compressed them into boots. Her wetsuit is highly reduced. She calls out happily, waving a webbed hand to show where the telepathic voice is coming from.]

Hello! Are you looking for something?
bluespearmanofthewind: (*hmm*)

[personal profile] bluespearmanofthewind 2016-03-05 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[That sudden reaction surprises Lancer for a bit. He is sure that a moment ago he was a skeptical, reserved, and grumpy boy. Suddenly he raises his voice and that is totally unexpected.]

I didn't expect you to get loud...

[Lancer stops while rubbing his hair a bit.]

How to explain it... Not exactly a ghost, but a spiritual being that is granted a body. A ghost can't really be perceived by humans, but we can. Let's say it's the highest class of ghosts.

[That doesn't make any sense but that's the spontaneous response Lancer can think about.]

Nah, I'm just gonna stay and see what will happen.

I'm assuming that you're going to take the rough part and figure out your way back?

[He has a guess that this boy is similar to someone he knows... and that's not really a good sign.]
forsage: ( 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐭. ) (009. • wish i didn't i didn't i didn't.)

[ it's the second try that roderic gets, needing a moment to understand it. after that he picks up quickly enough, mouthing back the name to confirm he got it. he pauses a bit to say nice name because that's what you do, right? compliment someone?

the creature bumps up against the tentacles with great affection one more time before swimming away. much as they find the new stranger interesting, very interesting, they're more than happy to nestle up against the disgruntled man.

urrrgh, his expression reads, unimpressed by the show of interest. there was no way he could keep it so he isn't sure why it's even trying. looking at fukami, he points at the critter and shrugs in mild despair. he has no idea what to do with it - does he? because he's getting kinda desperate at this point. ]
forsage: (002. • when he walks into the room.)

[ it might just be working with roderic too with how he actually smiles a bit at her, surprised but pleased all the same. he quickly tries to cover up his smile but his touch is very gentle as he begins to try and remove the shark teeth. ]

/ There's some over there then if you wanna tie her up now. That patch to me seemed mighty sturdy lookin' so it should last us for a little while. / [ just long enough of them to get the little droid to safety.

speaking of the droid- he addresses her next, adding in a surprisingly soft voice, ]
/ You're gonna be alright with all of that, little lady? Don't wanna make you feel like chump change here. /
discardia: (I didn't mean to cook your dog)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I... think so...

[ She's not quite sure yet. That was certainly an ordeal, and she's also sort of collapsed on their new friend. ]
discardia: Don't question it (Default)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry?

[ Have her looking startled and unsure in your direction, Stiles (should she be apologizing about this)?? ]
discardia: (What the Finis-- I mean devil--)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Let's just say he's got some stuff in common with you, Ellana-- and when Cardia turns to her, she can't stop her eyes from lingering on that stump before she guiltily jerks her gaze elsewhere and nods. ]

He is... his name is Sisi, but I didn't expect to find him here...
discardia: (Ow my sensibilities)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
N-no, of course not! I mean, I did meet him when he was in someone's bag, but I don't know how he ended up here!

[ SHE DOESN'T STICK DOGS IN LOCKERS?? ]
discardia: (I sure hope your gloves don't burn)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The dog makes such a show of sniffing her hand and deliberating... and then he whines, softly, and licks her fingers. Cardia, thankful, relaxes immediately. ]

Thank goodness...
discardia: Getting kidnapped by phantom thieves and all (This is kind of a first for me)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry! I don't think he likes men that much...

[ Or seraphim. ]
discardia: (There's always That One Route)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She's okay... somehow. Shaky and upset and confused, and also coughing, but alive, so isn't that progress? ]

Th--

[ Hold on, she has to cough again. ]
discardia: Don't question it (Default)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Does she really want to grab onto this gigantic monstrosity?

... Well, it's better than sinking to her death, so she'll get a grip on it and promptly cough out most liquid in her lungs. Well. This is a great first meeting. ]
discardia: (Hatblocked)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
... I'm sorry, I'm being rude.

[ IMMEDIATELY AVERTING HER GAZE. Gosh, Lupin and St. Germain would've frowned at her for such a breach in etiquette! ]
discardia: Don't question it (Dramatic windblown... post-train jump)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
A... dog? [ Is this a trick question-- ] His name is Sisi.
discardia: (The pick-up lines they hurt)

[personal profile] discardia 2016-03-05 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ LOOK, IT'S HARD TO OBEY ORDERS LIKE THAT-- but Cardia does go a little limp in relief, unable to respond at first because... well, it's hard to tlak when you did almost drown. ]
