[A] The mods said we can make panties now
[After talking to Haruka about the communicators and trying (failing) to figure out how to shut off the memes on his own, Hajime instead went to URSULA to get himself a second communicator. And then he and Haruka decided to rip it apart to find out how it worked with supervision from Dirk.

Sorry if your communicators are now not only showing/playing memes; for a few hours, they're also going to sound rather like chipmunks. Whoops.

Maybe more importantly, with some perseverance and a perhaps a grudge against meme-producing technology, they've found a blueprint to create something called the Fabricator. Which of course they built, because why wouldn't you build something like that.

tl;dr there's now a machine called the Fabricator which characters "can use it to fabricate... fabrics! URSULA is sure they will be pleased to be able to have more than one pair of underwear, as she has noticed that everyone has an odd obsession with hygiene." So go nuts! Hopefully someone knows how to sew...

[B] It's like coffeeshop AU except it's canon
[There's been a new addition to the kitchen! Several new additions, actually, the most notable of which is one of the fancy Starbucks-like coffee machines from the Monolith. It's probably safe to use? No one's died from it yet, anyway. Hajime's also brought back a good amount of the coffee and several different kinds of flavored syrup. It's time to make your coffeeshop AU dreams a reality.

Hajime definitely would have needed help bringing it back, so feel free to steal the credit from him in the end. But it's a mingle! Make your own top-levels, do whatever.]

[Hajime still doesn't like telepathy; he doesn't like receiving anyone's mental broadcasts, and he's used it as sparingly as possible since his arrival. He's never asked to read anyone's thoughts, and doesn't quite know how to feel about someone else potentially reading his. But in any case:]

Okay, the communicators acting up was kind of funny for a few hours. But it's been days. Doesn't anyone know how to fix this?

[Or are people just choosing not to? Whatever the reason, he's quickly grown tired of it.]

action
[--The reason for that might be if anyone happens to run into him around the base, in moments of silence where Hajime seems to be concentrating fairly hard on reading, studying, looking at his electronic student handbook, or seems to just plain be lost in thought, his communicator plays a nice song.]

C'mon, enough already!

[And bashing his wrist communicator against the closest hard surface, whether it be wall, desk, or table. Sometimes that turns it off. Sometimes it just starts the song over from the beginning again.]

[What it says on the tin: got a July mission you want to play out? Feel free to thread it in here! Please note in the subject header what mission it is and if it's open to all or closed to a smaller group. If you want to make your own separate log for a mission, that's fine too, of course!

Remember to check out the OOC planning/mission signups to see what's going on, claim your own missions, or poke other people if you want to join in on theirs!]

i. your local telepathy network

I've been involved with motor sports for years now. [Her penchant for starting conversations like they're soliloquies seems more invasive over telepathy than in person.] I've gotten used to living my life dangerously. A hurricane's pretty low on my list of ways to die.

[There's a pause, a little drawn out, in which she stops to stretch both arms behind her head. This type of communication will never grow her. She tries to frame the gap as profound, not awkward.]

And whatever a storm does to our base, it'll do to that island just as hard. [And they're currently electromagnetically tugging around that island, and that's a pretty fragile infrastructure, and their base could get vivisected, and that's her train of logic, mostly. But her next proposal is all charm and honey when she makes it.]

So let's take a trip. Just us - you and me, the sea, one of the skimmers...We'll see what we can find. I'd hate for something we could have prevented to happen.

Don't worry. I'm a very safe driver.

two action options below the cut! )

((For folks who want to go on a field trip for the first prompt, I was thinking of making a complete mission jaunt out of it!! And if lots of people want to do something, there can be multiple jaunts. the other two are just, you know, whatever. hmu if you want to talk more!))

[ this is a catch-all for anyone who wants to do anything with the undersea farmville mission; for reference the farming area looks like this (though cleaned of coral and etc) and is about three miles south of the base. the protected area is approximately half an acre in size though it isn't a perfect square and has a few narrow side paths from the rock formation.

they're going with the glass dome method of farming so help gather materials for that (they're trying to make One Huge Glass Dome so the picture isn't entirely accurate. JUST IMAGINE IT BIGGER.) and install it, or help plant the seeds that the strilonde siblings rescued from the aurora. or, you know, help clear out some stubborn schools of fish and/or more coral and plants so we have farming area room. or help hurricane prep. whatever you want.

early on in the month there's a telepathic call to arms if you need it, courtesy dave and loki, which amounts to "hey, we're doing a thing and you can help out if you want to get not seafood faster", although with far too many words and meatphors on dave's part and a far less meandering take on loki's part. plz assist them. ]

I. WHALE FUNERAL - KELP FOREST

Early in the day, before she's seen anyone leave the base, Merrill tries to use the telepathy for a call.

"Hello? One, two, three-- Counting in your head is normal but it's strange when everyone can hear you. But... I thought, the ocean looks very calm and clear today, it would be nice to go pay respects to that Reefback. I can perform funeral rites. So... so! That's all I wanted to say. I'll be going, maybe I'll see people? So, yes, that's all! Have a nice day!"

For anyone who does come to the Reefback funeral, they'll see something very curious. The coral that makes up the 'reef' in its name has started to consume the body of its host, spilling out over the damaged parts and sprouting out through wounds.

Someday soon, this spot will no doubt be a beautiful reef. There could be no better honour.

II. WHALE HOSPITAL - GRASSY PLATEAU

Later that same day (perhaps right after the funeral!), an intrepid group of crew members will head out to find the rest of the Reefback pod and help fix them up, or just observe and bond with them. The pod's slower and smaller than it was when they saw it last, more than just the one adult lost to Reaper injuries, and the young are sticking to the safety of the group rather than venturing out on their own.

Many of the survivors have extensive injuries and could certainly use the help. The crew is welcomed and musically greeted by the huge creatures when they come into sight, though the Reefbacks don't quite understand what they're there for at first . . . best to be patient, and to try not to get booped too hard by confused tentacles.

There's a very big, very important expedition happening - the base's first trip as a group to the Aurora to go salvage what's inside! Very big, very important, and happening... next month. They're not going anywhere until they've conducted some research on that downed ship and gathered a good base of intel on how they might take care of - and protect - themselves.

This is probably one of the more important missions that the new crew have to take care of this month, since without any sort of transport they're left swimming (by hand) everywhere, including the wreck. The hard part is going to be getting materials and then turning the materials into something that people can actually use. Fortunately, URSULA is going to be very helpful and give the crew all sorts of blueprints and ideas! Less fortunately, they're still going to have to go fishing for said supplies.
