URSULA's voice crackles on over all forms of communication, radio and telepathic. In both, her transmission seems unstable. "Warning. Urgent. Attention required. I really mean it. Please evacuate the water. If impossible, hide immediately. The blast will be incoming from the east. The Aurora has reached critical status. Dark Matter engines failing. Core system failure impending, counting down in ten... nine... eight... sev-- sev-- five... four... three... tw--"
Should any be above the surface in the line of sight of the Aurora, they will witness the fires of explosion. The outer shell pops and bursts into flame, billowing out, a deafening roar that cracks with a heavy wave buoying through the water. Shocks of steam fill the air, scalding what surfaces they burst over. A rain begins.
In some ways, it is the safest place to witness.
Below, the explosion ricochets. A shock blasts through the water, then another, sending wave after wave pushing seaweed flat down, knocking animals about, scattering and rocking sand. Pulses of burning hot bubbles shake through a radius, fizzling out only after it sears and disperses to ravage what rises above. Cold water filaments web through the pods of heat. The ocean shudders.
Even as far as the base, the Aurora’s explosion makes itself known. The whole structure shudders on its supports, loose items shaking and falling, rushes of white and dark water bursting past the observatory windows in one wave, another, a third, and in one empty observatory, a crack breaks through the glass, forcing URSULA to seal off the area temporarily.
Rain still falls above the Aurora’s wreckage. The last of the fires will be doused. When the waters become cool again, new sea life will move in to make food of the their dead brethren.
A strange keening shivers in the air at the edge of hearing.
[As a note, direct any questions regarding this event to the March OOC Post! And a special note for Korosensei, go for it ♥]
[The voice comes from an entirely shaky young woman, who was crouched in a corner with her hands pressed over her ears (that was terrifying, okay). She's not injured, though, and she'll just...try to do what she can to help.]
[ Ellana approaches, leaning her staff against the wall before she holds out a hand, offering to help her to her feet. ]
That was frighteningly loud even all the way out here.
[ Imagine being closer to the downed ship when it hit critical capacity... she doesn't really want to. "Closer" as likely meant "dead" as anything else. ]
[ She inclines her head, looking her over once more after she's helped her to her feet. Is she steady? Not leaning? Not looking like her knees might give out? Once she's satisfied with the immediate state of things with Mai, she answers the questioning statement. ]
Yes. The ship, the one you can see in the distance from the surface? Its energy source was unstable. From what I undersatnd, that explosion resulted from the instability.
[ She frowns, looking in the direction that the ship would lie, were it indeed visible from here. ]
It's a problem that needs addressing, but there are more immediate issues on hand that do as well.
[ Then a pause, and a glance. A slight softening of expression. She's young. ]
Have you ever witnessed an explosion of that magnitude before?
[She feels sheepish to have to admit it--like everyone else is more competent and more capable when it comes to situations like this. but on the other hand... it's true, isn't it? Everyone else here is much more competent.]
[ Ellana would count it as a better part of life not to need to live through massive explosions — or to die in them. Though she's biased, and perhaps hasn't always lived through them in the first place. Her smile is small, but meant to be reassuring. ]
I believe you. As someone who's seen a few too many explosions in my life, I can say it doesn't get any less startling.
[ Except when you toss the explosions at others, perhaps, but lightning really isn't quite the same. ]
We should get an idea of who may be injured, and what needs to be cleaned up. Most anything not nailed down seems to have come out of where it was before. Feel up to it?
[ Let's have a focus of restoring order on a level that's necessary — and also manageable by most anyone. Better than idle hands and active worrying minds in the end. ]
[ Another small nod; much as it doesn't sit well with her, she's adapted. It's useful. Besides, it's not like they're all reading each other's thoughts, for the most part. One does need to project them for that to happen.
She hopes. ]
Call out for Ellana and I'll hear. We'll all be able to set this to rights soon enough, when we're all focused on the same goal.
[ Another small smile, her grip shifting to hold the apparent walking stick with a firmness that translates to the way she holds herself at ready. Expecting... something. More things. But braced to face them all, as they come. ]
I'll likely meet you back in the kitchens or the labs, depending on how we end up traversing this place.

Mm... I'm still not entirely sure what happened... there was--um, an explosion?
[Her ears are still ringing, but she's pretty sure she's only heard things like that in movies.]

Right...! I'll do what I can.
[Something that she can do is something that appeals to her quite a bit; she wants to be able to help, and not just sit around uselessly.]
I'll... go look around and try to find out who's injured. Um... I can contact you by the...telepathy, right?
