August Pre-Hurricane Post | Open Mingle
[It's the calm before the storm—or at least the not-quite-so-bad-weather before the storm. The winds are starting to pick up, the ocean is rolling, and all manner of sea creature is heading for cover to ride things out.
But at the base, there's still lots to do as usual. Whether it's getting ready to hunker down, goofing off, or making friends, there's never a dull moment under the sea! Have at it, and remember to check out the OOC planning/mission signups to see what's going on!]

[If Hajime were the paranoid type, he might assume that having this letter dropped off has something to do with their previous conversation. Especially considering how it explains, in detail, how blackrom is supposed to work. Even after reading it, he's more confused than ever. Fortunately he can see he's not the only one who got this, so while Karkat's putting one up on the wall, Hajime corners him.]
You can take this letter back. This all sounds way too stressful.
no subject
[ he has had to explain this concept way too many times in the past month and this makes it easier?? KEEP THE LETTER, HAJIME?? ]
This may be very useful in your future.
no subject
[Maybe he's just so against it because with his luck, he'd be the auspistice. Way too stressful, in his opinion.]
I don't want any part of it.
no subject
Like I said in my very helpful and simplified explanation, you don't have to actually hate someone for them to be your kismesis. It could just be annoyance, as long as there is attraction there. The position of an auspistice is, admittedly, a very difficult thing to maintain which is why it's hard to find someone who completely excels at it. More often than not, the person ends up burning out. But they typically don't seek any real benefit from it other than making sure an ugly situation doesn't turn up. Trust me, I personally know of a few relationships that may have ended a lot differently if there was a third party involved.
[ his tone is kind of similar to a teacher explaining a simple concept to a first grader. sorry, hinata. ] Also you're already a part of it. You humans already partake in this system all the fucking time, you just don't know the proper term for it so you only put all the focus on flushed feelings.
no subject
[0k, this is clearly some kind of weird alien thing, so for now, Hajime just nods. Well done, Karkat, you've educated him, or something. He will definitely use this knowledge in the future. Speaking of, though-]
So... why are you bothering to post this everywhere? If we "partake in this system all the time," what difference does it make whether we use your terms or not?
no subject
[ that looks like the end of his explanation, but after a moment he tacks on, ] Also admittedly it gets tiring having to explain this over and over again whenever I bring up quadrants in a conversation? You have no idea how much time this just saved me for future conversations.
no subject
But he keeps that thought to himself and just sighs, shoving his hands into his pockets to resist the urge to press his fingertips to the bridge of his nose.]
So... why now, anyway? Were that many people asking you about your, uh, "quadrants?"
no subject
Yeah obviously, why the fuck else would I think to do this?
no subject
[He saw that. Hajime may not be good at much, but he does pay attention.]
Right... still, it might be better if you just kept stuff like this on hand and just passed it out when people asked for it. I know I'm going to forget it pretty quickly.
no subject
[ karkat shoves one of the papers into hinata's hands. ]
What a coincidence that I had this on me.
no subject
[Except he has the paper now, because he's not rude enough to just drop it right in front of him.]
I mean it, "flushed" feelings or whatever are the only kind I'm interested in. I don't need quadrants or anything like that to understand them?
no subject
[ YOU CAN AT LEAST LIE AND SAY YOU WILL??? karkat is so offended right now. ]
no subject
You're not going to get carpal tunnel from typing up an essay about your quadrants.
[But fine, look, he's pocketing it? He's got this.]
You really care about the people on this base, huh?
[Which seems obvious. In spite of his prickly attitude, he's still gone out of his way to do something... well, something Karkat thinks is helpful, anyway.]
no subject
there are definitely people he does care about though, to varying degrees. but having someone actually point that out is super embarrassing, do not want. ]
What? No. Who the fuck would I care about in this inverted fishbowl?
no subject
This guy really is a textbook tsundere. A less-frightening version of a certain SHSL Hajime's familiar with. So it's with that in mind that he can't help but snort a laugh through his nose, quirking an eyebrow.]
I don't know, but URSULA seems to think she'll be holding a wedding for you.
[--He doesn't know who to, but that's a thing he did learn.]
no subject
actually, karkat was hoping that neither dave nor dirk would find out about it either. it's just slightly less terrible for them to know because of Reasons. ]
Oh my fucking god, what else did she say to you?
no subject
[He's laughing... he kind of thought URSULA might have just been confused or mistaken, but while it's weird to see on grey skin, that blush is unmistakable.]
Congratulations, I guess. So this whole quadrant thing... is this in preparation for the dates we're supposed to have when you invite everyone?
no subject
so.
karkat is internally shrieking. ]
Oh my fuck I am not inviting anyone to anything ever.
no subject
[Whatever mystery person Karkat's marrying (since... he's not disputing that part?) presumably will have some say?
He's still grinning a little, because, well, he can't help it. This shouty guy has just been getting on his nerves, so while it's petty, getting back at him a little isn't bad at all.]
no subject
Get that stupid smile off your face, I swear to paradox space. I am not getting married!
[ yeah he finally thought to deny it. very late. ]
no subject
[Not... that Hajime really cares, when it comes down to it. As far as he's concerned, URSULA is still incredibly suspicious. But other people care about URSULA's feelings.]
But sure, alright. It's none of my business. But... you might want to mention to URSULA that your relationship is some kind of big secret.
[While URSULA may not have said anything about that, nor had Dirk dropped the deets, he has a few suspicions. Nothing concrete though.]
no subject
It's not a big secret! [ karkat says, defensively, like you would over something that is a big secret. ]
no subject
[Hajime holds up both hands, because yes, it's obviously some kind of big secret if Karkat's going to go on like that.]
This quadrants thing still seems unnecessarily complicated to me.
no subject
[ he says as if hinata is going to actually want to think about this ]
no subject
Is what he thinks, anyway. But in the interest of inter-species cooperation or something, he says instead,] Okay, let's pretend it does make sense. What am I supposed to do with all this new information?
