August Pre-Hurricane Post | Open Mingle

[It's the calm before the storm—or at least the not-quite-so-bad-weather before the storm. The winds are starting to pick up, the ocean is rolling, and all manner of sea creature is heading for cover to ride things out.

But at the base, there's still lots to do as usual. Whether it's getting ready to hunker down, goofing off, or making friends, there's never a dull moment under the sea! Have at it, and remember to check out the OOC planning/mission signups to see what's going on!]

It's for a good cause! And I brought a lot.

[ literally all the items she brought with her are arts and crafts things. ]

I can also teach you how to make things other than cranes, too.

Really? What kinds of other animals can you make? We could make a whole bunch of them once I get the hang of it.

[Picking out a rainbow assortment of colors to use because this is totally going to be a rainbow assortment of animals.]

There's butterflies, fish, bats, dogs, frogs... A whole lot! Some are a lot harder to figure out than others but they're super fun to make.

[ she picks out a fresh piece of paper and smooths it down. ]

They're funner to make with other people.

[Mimicking her movements and following her lead to see what she makes.]

Easy ones are probably best to start with, but if you don't mind me messing up a little then I don't mind either. It goes by faster when you're working with others too, right?

[ she starts out with a crane, since that's the #iconic origami animal and everyone should know how to make it. she's a pretty decent teacher for this, since hajime spends a lot of her spare time back home showing people stuff like this. ]

We can mix it up! And mmhm. I kind of want to make a big group here and just teach everyone at once.

[He's a decent student. Not perfect, but he's got a good teacher, so he learns the basics well enough.]

We're going to be spending a lot more time indoors for the next few days while the hurricane goes past us, so it's the perfect time to teach something like this. You'll have everyone's undivided attention!

[sniptuck]

That's true! And it might help cheer everyone up, I doubt people will have a lot of fun when they're stuck inside all day.

[ because no one is foolish enough to go out during a hurricane, right?

[There's nothing but calm and sensible people here.]

Most of us spend a lot of time outside, so I'm really not sure how well it's gonna go over. Having plenty of distractions sounds like a good idea.

Right, we should use this time to rest up as much as possible. You never know how much damage the storm might do, so we need to be nice and prepared to deal with the aftermath.

[ and they can't do that if everyone who's sick runs around doing dumb things

which they probably will end up doing but. you know. at least they tried. ]

[they'll. they'll try to rest, probably, but it's hard for all these teenage protagonists.]

Have you ever dealt with a hurricane before? We did as much as we could to keep the base protected, but it's hard to guess how much we'll have to clean up after.

[sniptuck]

I have, although we call them typhoons where I live. I don't really know how different it'll be underwater though.

[ the storms can be pretty horrible above land, obviously. can it really be as bad down here? well. probably. ]

It's unfortunate everyone got sick at the same time as the storm! It means we have less help.

[The illness hasn't quite hit Sorey yet, but he looks just a little queasier at the mention of it. Try not to think of breakfast this morning...]

Hopefully we won't need that much help and it all goes by without any big incidents. I'd rather let people rest.

At least this can serve as a good lesson to everyone. We have to still take care of ourselves and not jump into everything so recklessly.

[ they should have been more aware that there really is no such thing as a perfect immunization booster, probably. ]

["A good lesson to not jump into things recklessly" does not sound like the moral that was learned at this base.]

I don't think anybody can help catching the flu every now and then. It doesn't have anything to do with recklessness.

I guess I mean more along the lines of exploring all these places on the planet without really knowing what we might catch.

[ she doesn't really sound too bothered by it though; hajime is definitely the type to leap into these situations too, so she's pretty guilty of doing this. ]

At least now we know we can still get sick even with the immunization boosters!

[At least she's not judging them, though he wouldn't blame her if she was]

The more information we have the better! Although it would have saved us a lot of trouble if we'd known sooner.

I feel like it's better that this happened now instead of another time. I heard that you were all attacked by reapers a few months back when you first visited the Aurora?

[ because like... the crew admittedly did not do that stellar against the creatures that time and were only saved by the reefbacks, but can you imagine if that happened while they were sick? there would have probably been crew member casualties. ]

[that's TOO MORBID, HAJIME]

We hadn't been here long enough to catch any illnesses then. And we took precautions not to get radiation poisoning.

Do you think any of the animals we eat have radiation poisoning?

[ she says as she folds a lil paper bear. ]

[imsorey]

[mimicking folding the paper bear, but this conversation is distracting and his folds are a little off]

URSULA and her drones checked everything for the first few months we were here. I can't really prove that they don't have radiation poisoning, but if they did I think we'd have gotten sick a lot sooner.

[sniptuck]

I see.

[ she doesn't say anything after that, focusing on her folding.

except then suddenly: ]

Maybe the radiation poisoning will give us cool superpowers.

[imsorey]

[tilting his head to get a look at her expression, just to make sure she isn't joking.]

URSULA and Korosensei said it makes you sick. Does it give people superpowers too?

[sniptuck]

It might! That's how it works in movies and comic books! One day you're just minding your own business then boom! Splat! You've been radiated and can now fly and zap lasers!

[ hajime no. ]

[imsorey]

Really? I wonder why they said it was dangerous.

[Flying doesn't do much in the ocean, but zapping lasers would be pretty cool]

Who knows?

[ she knows. ]

It'll be really neat if that happened, gatcha.
