[It's the calm before the storm—or at least the not-quite-so-bad-weather before the storm. The winds are starting to pick up, the ocean is rolling, and all manner of sea creature is heading for cover to ride things out.

But at the base, there's still lots to do as usual. Whether it's getting ready to hunker down, goofing off, or making friends, there's never a dull moment under the sea! Have at it, and remember to check out the OOC planning/mission signups to see what's going on!]

[ listen..... hajime is so bad at secret identities. she is tony stark at the end of the first iron man film level of bad. ]

I do! I try my best, so I'm not sure if I'd consider myself super yet, but... I try to be as much of a hero as I can.

[superseding]

[ Whoa... Hotaru's eyes widen, and her mouth forms a small circle. She's never met a real life superhero up close and personal? Ninety-five percent of the time she sees Sailor Moon and the others in action, she seems to pass out or faint.

And even then, she's never seen a superhero not in their superhero form. This is kind of exciting. ]

You're incredible. Do you save people everyday at home?

[sniptuck]

I try!

[ hotaru's reaction reminds hajime of when she and the other gatchaman members revealed their identities to the world. it's kind of cute, but there is something hajime wants to make clear. ]

But I also tried to help people even before I got powers. They make things easier, but I don't think they're what make me anything like a hero, if I am one! Being a superhero is like...

[ she trails off, trying to find the right words for it. then, hajime points at hotaru's chest. ]

That feeling you get right here! The one that makes your legs start moving before your brain can catch up to them! You can have the coolest, most spectacular abilities in the world, but if you wouldn't throw them away to save someone else, then what's the point, right?

[superseding]

[ It's like a comet is streaking across the sky in front of Hotaru, and she's stunned to silence for a second. She just stands stock-still, staring at Hajime. Her words move her heart, and Hotaru's hands go up to where Hajime points. ]

If you don't have the right heart for it, you can't really be a hero. That's what it means to be a hero, isn't it? You have to do the right thing... whatever that right thing is.

[ Is that it? ]

I think everyone has the potential. Some people just haven't realized it yet, or they're busy with other things. Life can get pretty crazy!

[ hajime grabs hotaru's hand and gives it a light squeeze. ]

So let's try to be heroes together, Hotaru-chan!

[superseding]

[ Heat rises in her face, but so does hope in her eyes. She'd like to be a hero. If she could work towards being a hero, maybe it'd help work against or cancel out all of her past misfortune. It'd be nice.

Still, Hotaru can't help but smile. ]

Okay. Let's be heroes. Saving people won't hurt anyone.

[sniptuck]

So! Hotaru-chan, what should our first act as a hero duo be?

[ while hajime normally likes to drag people around to her ideas, for hotaru it seems like it might be a good thing to have her come up with things on her own? ]

[superseding]

[ Hotaru looks lost for a moment. What do heroes do? They save people, but the common definition of saving doesn't exactly apply right now (or she hopes no one is in physical danger right now).

But she knows that there is more than one way to save someone. ]

I think.... we should befriend everyone we can.

[ Because making friends is what saves her. ]

[sniptuck]

That's a good idea!

[ like, genuinely. hajime already tries her best to become friends with everyone in the base, but even though they all live in the same place, it's still difficult to actually meet everyone. ]

It'll be nice. I'm sure there are lonely people here.

[superseding]

Yes. I know it's harder for some people to make friends, too, or some who try to pretend they don't need or want friends because they're afraid.

[ Does it sound like she's speaking from personal experience? Because maybe she is.

Hotaru genuinely wants everyone to be friends, too, even if she thinks that's more of a dream than a realistic goal, but isn't that what heroes do? They make dreams reality. ]

[sniptuck]

... [ yeah, she definitely reminds her of utsutsu. ]

Right! So let's do our best to make everything easier for everyone, including ourselves.

[superseding]

[ Hotaru nods. ]

Yes! It'll be our duty as heroes.
