Mass texting
[Early in the morning, maybe too early for some people, there's a very important mass text being sent out:]
HEY EVERYONE IT'S SOREY
AND MIKLEO
WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK IF YOU CAN SHARE SOME MEMORIES OF YOUR HOME, SO THAT WE CAN SHARE THEM WITH URSULA
IT WOULD MAKE HER HAPPY
SHE CAN READ ALL OF THIS THOUGH SO COME TO THE LABS WHEN YOU'RE FREE SO IT'S A SURPRISE FOR HER
NO PEAKING URSULA
[Sure enough, if you venture over to the labs anytime today, you'll find Sorey and/or Mikleo waiting around for people and multitasking at running a few tests.]
[[OOC: You will get Sorey or Mikleo tagging you, feel free to have characters talk to each other to brainstorm memories if needed too!! Please also fill out the OOC post over HERE for organizational convenience <3]]

[ She bows her head to him, hands in front of her and at around the level of her stomach. It's a brief sort of politeness, nothing too formal, but enough to say she's showing respect... by her cultural standards. ]
Sorey-san managed to explain what I'm supposed to do — concentrate on thinking and remembering.
no subject
[he looks a little startled by the bow -- very few people have ever offered formalities to him directly, less so since coming here -- but sets down his pen to return it; just the matching incline of his head.]
And -- yes. It's not actually anything, um, new...it's just, we have the nanites to mindspeak and send things to each other already, so it made sense to adjust them so we could share them with her, too. She really won't look at anything you don't actually want to share with her, though. She's pretty nice about things on the whole.
no subject
Okay. Um, with the things we remember... is it okay if we're remembering the people there, too? I don't know that I can think about some of the places I've been without thinking about who I was there with.
[ She's actually pretty sure that if she needs to keep the people out of her memories, she's not going to be able to help much with this at all. Weird how it's all stuff that already exists... and these nanites are the things in her and everyone else? She rubs at one arm, a distracted way of showing her ill ease with the nature of tiny things inside of her doing weird things to her body. Like making her telepathic. ]
no subject
[he hasn't much considered that -- the place he shared he knows well enough to portray without its inhabitants -- but URSULA likes learning, right? he's pretty sure she won't mind.]
Basically, nothing you're not comfortable with. We're just trying to...you know. Do something nice in a way that's good for everyone involved.
no subject
It's a kindness she holds close in hand. ]
Do you think she'd also like memories of experiences? Like flying? It's not quite like swimming, and flying on a dragon up in the clouds is both pretty and exciting, even just at night.
no subject
--wait, you've flown on a dragon?
[he looks a little more boggled than even that news should merit. it just doesn't fit with what he knows of dragons from home at all.]
no subject
Yes?
[ Not because she thinks "oh everyone has done that." It's him taking her seriously and being surprised that's more surprising than anything else. (... She thinks he believes her, at least.) ]
The first time because we were both falling, the second time because he was bringing me back where I needed to be.
no subject
[he settles, though he's still a bit wide-eyed.]
Sorry for startling you. Just, that's not usual for dragons where I come from. Or...dragons here, actually, as far as I've found.
no subject
[ The fantastic, even when on another world and thus already undergoing a certain amount of the "fantastic," can be difficult to accept. She feels her parents wouldn't have been able to unless they also remembered their time as pigs. She's just glad they wouldn't have. ]
There are dragons here? Water dragons? Like spirits of the sea or the ocean?
[ Her bias is once again showing. ]
no subject
[he scratches his head, perplexed.]
Where Sorey and I come from, spirits turn into dragons if they've been corrupted, but that seems pretty particular to our home. I haven't heard of it happening the same way anywhere else, at least. Which is something of a relief.
no subject
I've seen a polluted spirit before, but he was a dragon that looked like a stink spirit until he was cleaned. He was also a river spirit, a really old one.
[ Haku is a bit more indeterminate in age. ]
I didn't know there were dragons here... or in your own home, though I guess I wouldn't have before now. I'm sorry that they don't sound like they're very nice. Corrupting spirits... that doesn't sound good at all. What are the ones here like?
[ Weren't the Reapers the danger she was told to stay away from in wandering too far out from base? ]
no subject
[this is a lot to absorb. it looks like Chihiro has yet another spiritual system at home that works quite differently from how his does ; he resolves to ask her more questions about it later.]
Technically the whole planet seems to have an interconnected spirit, I guess? Like...we've heard that the whole thing is alive, and I've felt the way it links everything as well, a couple of times. The dragons...one's been friendly enough and helped us, but it's also...trapped somehow. I intend to go ask it how, at some point. The other one, um, I think it keeps sending Reapers to attack us? It's corrupted as well. Not a very nice guy. But we don't know a huge amount about either yet since our encounters with them have been so short.
no subject
Trapped spirits; corrupted spirits. It's funny. A few... oh. Days ago, or a week, or is it two by now? In that time past, none of those ideas would have made the same sense. Accepting them, and acting as if they're a normal part of existence, is the kind of rapid paced change and adaptation she's managed. Children can be such wonderfully flexible individuals when they want, even if at other times they can be so wonderfully stubborn and resistant to change.
It's based on those experiences that she tries to understand what these dragons are, or might mean. Everything's connected, right? ]
If he's corrupted, maybe he's sick. There might be something wrong with him... but I don't know if there's anything here that might make him better. Something to purge all the bad stuff out?
[ Something like the River God's medicine. Powerful and cleansing, in its own right. ]
Is it very hard to get to where you can talk to either of them? The nicer dragon, or the sick one?
[ ... She's simplifying, but "corrupted" and "sick" have reasons to be intermixed in her mind. She doesn't think of "corrupted" as being unsalvageable. If it's curable, it's a sickness, isn't it? ]
no subject
[he's stilled at her questions. the way he knows is simple -- the power of purification people from their world still hold -- but he doesn't know how effective it will be, considering that it can't cleanse a true dragon's scope back there either -- and the Void dragon does indeed feel on the scale of a true dragon. if she's got a different solution, an alternate, stronger purifying method, he is all ears and open to hear.]
It's not a bad idea. What he has that I could make out is...malevolence, impurity of the spirit, so some kind of purging may help that. Do you have any rituals from your world on how to do that? How did your stink spirit become restored...?
no subject
That sounds incredible.
[ The dreaming. Part of her wants to try that out, but she sets that thought to the side when he's asking her those questions. Er... okay. She thinks on it, sorting through what she remembers. ]
I'm not a sorcerer or a priest or anything... they probably know more. With the River God, we had to help pull things that had gotten stuck in him out. Literally pull it out. There was all kinds of junk, like a bicycle and construction things and a fishing pole. We also washed him with a special herbal water. Lots of special herbal water.
[ She's not sure they can rely on that here, but... hm. ]
The River God gave me a kind of medicine that helped purify things from the inside. I gave half to one friend, and half to another. It helped them throw up all the stuff hurting them on the inside. Like a slug, and a seal.
[ Or people? As one does. She makes a face at the memory of the slug. ]
Maybe the trapped dragon knows of things that can be made into a medicine like what the River God gave to me in the Spirit World? Something from here that can help him be restored?
[ She's looking up at Mikleo, not sure she has any better answer outside of "is this something else we might try?" She doesn't have the breadth of knowledge that she's going to hazard most people on base do. ]
no subject
[there can be sometimes -- he's encountered a literal plague of malevolence, and battlefields breed it as well. but just getting dirty doesn't hurt a seraph, he's pretty sure.]
...however, the places where malevolence does register, besides the dragons, is where humans have touched the landscape. Perhaps there's a connection there.
And...actually, you may be right. That's perfectly worth asking, if we can get to the trapped dragon at all. A lot of things on this planet have strange properties.
[he nods; Iniidae's rules may be closer to hers than his, so why not explore those avenues?]
no subject
[ In the end, the most she can do to start with is nod in kind. Learning the differences between the spirits he knew and those she knows is interesting. More than enough so to hold her attention. It's a little like learning that Korra's Spirit Realm is a different one than what she herself knew and had experienced.
The worlds are vastly different places. It's overwhelming, until being here she realises that basically everyone is equally overwhelmed. Strangely enough, in a sense? That thought helps. ]
Um... has the dragon been hurt by humans before? ... Have only humans been here?
[ Thinking of humans as being polluting in a figurative sense is just what comes to mind based on what she'd just been talking about, and what she knew from the Spirit World. ]
no subject
...and actually, I don't know. Someone mentioned some aliens that humans are running from; aliens that propagate by infesting other species. They're called the Kharaa. There's some photos and things popping up of...tentacled people as well, I suppose? On the one hand, we haven't found signs of any nonhuman, nonnative aliens wandering around on the planet yet. On the other, it's a really big planet.
[wow he hopes the dragon is not infected by aliens, that would make the situation suck more than it already does.]
no subject
Chihiro hums in the back of her throat. ]
The crew isn't all human though. This crew. Um... Mikleo-san, do you remember how you got here?
no subject
...I fell down a hole...and I wasn't anywhere near the ocean. If you ask around, you'll find everyone has all kinds of different stories as to how they got here and whther they're supposed to be here or not.
no subject
So none of us came here the same way... or for the same reasons.
[ she breathes in... then out, smiling after she sighs. ]
That's kind of reassuring.
no subject
That's the first time I've heard that reaction from someone finding out...may I ask why?
no subject
If we all did the same thing to end up here, then it's something we're doing. If we didn't, then it's probably something here. I don't want to believe that I'm here because I failed to listen to an important friend. So... it's a kind of selfish relief. The thing we all share is that we're here, not how we got here, or why. It's a shared mystery.
[ And again, the selfish aspect of that has her feeling better. Shared mystery means working toward solving it altogether, too. ]
no subject
Still, I hope we find answers soon.
no subject
[ She straightens, stretching in small ways as she does so. ]
Though I should let you return to your work. Thank you and Sorey-san for working to help make URSULA's life a little nicer. And for telling me about these things I didn't know.
