Mass texting

[Early in the morning, maybe too early for some people, there's a very important mass text being sent out:]

HEY EVERYONE IT'S SOREY

AND MIKLEO

WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK IF YOU CAN SHARE SOME MEMORIES OF YOUR HOME, SO THAT WE CAN SHARE THEM WITH URSULA

IT WOULD MAKE HER HAPPY

SHE CAN READ ALL OF THIS THOUGH SO COME TO THE LABS WHEN YOU'RE FREE SO IT'S A SURPRISE FOR HER

NO PEAKING URSULA

[Sure enough, if you venture over to the labs anytime today, you'll find Sorey and/or Mikleo waiting around for people and multitasking at running a few tests.]

[[OOC: You will get Sorey or Mikleo tagging you, feel free to have characters talk to each other to brainstorm memories if needed too!! Please also fill out the OOC post over HERE for organizational convenience <3]]

I'll try to stick to, um, waving something more neutral next time. Sorry. It was just closer than the rocks.

And yeah. She says she was kept in a warehouse, then a ship, and then here, and her sensors don't really let her perceive stuff the way humans do. I think Dirk's working on ways to fix that -- don't ask me what, I don't know -- but in the meantime, it seemed like a nice thing we could do. She feels pretty cooped up here, you know?

[He relaxes further; this is talk about machines, and even if it's not the kind of machine that's his specialty, he immediately feels better being on the topic.]

Sounds like she could use a real body . . . something mobile! Some kinda robot! You said Strider's in charge of that? I'll go talk to him about it later. If he needs a hand, I'm his man! But . . . I guess that might take a while, sure. I didn't know AIs could feel "cooped up."

. . . Still gonna pass, though.
oneandmikleonly: (oh; my love.)

On the memories? That's fine; some people aren't comfortable with it. There's things I wouldn't want to share, too; I just went with something from home since that was pretty safe and pleasant.

[he's easy; not at all offended by the refusal.]

But yes, you'll want to talk to him since I think he's doing the actual building. He asked people for design input but the results were kind of mixed, so he might like having someone else knowledgeable about tech to discuss the practicalities with one on one.

[That's a relief. Souda spends a moment trying to think of something safe and pleasant, and can't, really; maybe it's just because of the most recent events on his mind, but seriously, even his childhood days aren't exactly the best memories. Better not to go there. So he just nods, gratefully.]

Nothin' against you or URSULA! And thanks for the tip! I'm not that experienced with robots, but hey, I'm the Ultimate Mechanic and all. I'm nothin' if not flexible! Maybe a huge mecha . . . a rocketship with optional legs? Y'know, like Transformers!
oneandmikleonly: (flotsam junk will do just fine.)

[oh...oh goodness. wild visions of Aurora-sized ships and scaled up versions of the mechanical suits in the lab dance in his head -- he doesn't have a reference from home, so he goes off what he's seen on Iniidae.]

Attachments might be good? Variable body options? I guess it depends how easy it is to transfer her from one to another -- but if she wants to head out to different terrains, something customizable might be nice...

What are transformers? I mean, besides...things that transform...it sounds like you're talking about something specific?

I was talking about the cartoon! Robots turning into cars . . . guess there's no way you'd have heard of all that. It's a part of a machine, too. You know anything about that kinda thing? 'Cuz that's a good idea you just had there!

[He clenches a fist with excitement, his mood going from 0 to 60 in a few seconds flat.]

All-terrain mode? Hell yeah! She's gotta be able to move through water, land, even the sky . . . you're not wrong!
oneandmikleonly: (what a simple want.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-11 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I only know a little...I do know what robots are? And cars...but it'd be complicated with a purely physical form, wouldn't it? You're talking a lot of interlocking parts that would have to be...really, really, really well-designed and flexible.

[he does seem to get the concept; he's just not versed enough in tech to picture how it would work, though he accepts that it could.]
soulfriend: (little otter kisses!)

[personal profile] soulfriend 2016-09-12 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, yep! You got it! Don't worry about the design being complicated. I could pull it off! Especially with help. That Strider guy's really somethin', too! This whole place is full of amazing people, huh?
oneandmikleonly: (crossed air before we learned to fly.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-12 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
...yeah, of all kinds. You're pretty amazing yourself if you're able to pull that kind of thing off without sweating.
soulfriend: (the dropkix baby)

[personal profile] soulfriend 2016-09-12 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I grew up surrounded by parts! My old man runs a shop . . . so ever since I was a baby, I've had one hand on a wrench. You guys can count on me!
oneandmikleonly: (oh; poor Atlas.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-12 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Will do.

[he hesitates after that, and then shrugs to himself; the worst that can happen is that he gets a no]

Actually...when you have some free time -- this isn't at all urgent, it can absolutely wait for between your projects -- would you be willing to test some materials in some of your builds sometime? I don't have the expertise for that part of my own experiments.
soulfriend: (I hope that dog's okay!)

[personal profile] soulfriend 2016-09-13 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, really?

[That does surprise him. Not unpleasantly, though; his interest is piqued right away.]

You're gonna have to be more specific about these materials, but you've got my attention!
oneandmikleonly: (lost the rising sun.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This stuff. Well -- not ALL this stuff, but some of it -- probably the metal and a little of the rock as a battery, that seems most in line with what actually goes in a regular machine.

[gestures over to the spread on the table he's working on: coral fragments, fish bone and carapace, metal ingots, stone, sand, quartz...]

I mean -- bigger samples, obviously, and processed so they aren't just...lumps. But I want to see if magic can be used to positively enhance the machines here in some way.
soulfriend: (is this a restraining order)

[personal profile] soulfriend 2016-09-14 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
This stuff is magic?

[He reaches out like he might touch a piece of coral, then jerks his hand back, giving it a dubious glare.]

It's not gonna curse me, is it?!
oneandmikleonly: (flotsam junk will do just fine.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-14 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. I have no idea how to do that sort of thing. I just heal and work with water.

[THE CORAL JUST LOOKS LIKE CORAL! there's a few etchings on a flat bit; blocky complex characters, but they're just carved in, not doing anything particularly magical. some of the other things on the table have similar lettering but are also inert.]

What I'm trying to do is -- strengthen the metals, make them move more easily through water, stand up to it better. I can't alter the coral and rock the same way but it seems possible to make them act like batteries, to make their effect on the metals last a lot longer. In time I might be able to do something fancier, but I figured I'd try for something that would help the mechanical side of the labs out first.

[personal profile] soulfriend 2016-09-15 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Kazuichi's still hesitant, but he picks up the coral and turns it slowly over, looking at the writing.]

Huh . . . never thought I'd be sticking sea creatures into my engines to make 'em run better . . . I don't really get how I'd incorporate it yet, but that don't mean I wouldn't try! As long as you're a hundred percent sure it's safe, got it? Let me see it in action before I even think about putting it in anything anyone uses. I don't know anything about magic!

But that's pretty interesting if it works.
oneandmikleonly: (formed a tiger's eye.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-15 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[the writing's a bit like the script on this. weird.]

Absolutely. That's why I wanted your help. Donatello wants to use it to modify our submarines eventually, but yeah, not 'till it's all tested and sure.

...thank you.
soulfriend: (the dropkix baby)

[personal profile] soulfriend 2016-09-15 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Donatello . . . never met him. You're sure this ain't secretly evil or something? If I get cursed I know where you live!

[But he gives him a thumbs up anyway. Even if he sounds half serious about that.]
oneandmikleonly: (crossed air before we learned to fly.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-09-15 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[that gets a laugh out of him, echoed in telepathy, a warm startled sound]

You do, so that's all the more reason not to do it!

Donatello's a giant turtle person, you'll know him when you see him.
