Mass texting

[Early in the morning, maybe too early for some people, there's a very important mass text being sent out:]

HEY EVERYONE IT'S SOREY

AND MIKLEO

WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK IF YOU CAN SHARE SOME MEMORIES OF YOUR HOME, SO THAT WE CAN SHARE THEM WITH URSULA

IT WOULD MAKE HER HAPPY

SHE CAN READ ALL OF THIS THOUGH SO COME TO THE LABS WHEN YOU'RE FREE SO IT'S A SURPRISE FOR HER

NO PEAKING URSULA

[Sure enough, if you venture over to the labs anytime today, you'll find Sorey and/or Mikleo waiting around for people and multitasking at running a few tests.]

[[OOC: You will get Sorey or Mikleo tagging you, feel free to have characters talk to each other to brainstorm memories if needed too!! Please also fill out the OOC post over HERE for organizational convenience <3]]

I think that was probably a good idea. It certainly did get my attention.

[She daintily sips her own bloody totally normal coffee.]

So how do I contribute my memories to this project?

[Might as well get to the point.]

Oh, it's pretty easy. All you have to do is think of a memory and consciously wish to share it. The nanites we use for telepathy will save it so that we can upload it for URSULA to see. The hardest part is making sure you get all of the details in there, like smells and sounds in addition to sight.

That is quite interesting. I am sure that URSULA will appreciate all the effort that is going into this gift for her.

[Kanaya is seriously impressed here. It must have taken a lot of experimentation to figure out how to do this.]

I am ready to begin when you are.

I'm ready! It's mostly on Dirk's end where things need to be set up, and he did that a little while ago. You should be able to just focus whenever.

[The concept is still a little beyond him, but he knows the basic steps of getting from point A to point C for this experiment.]

So if I just do this...

[ Kanaya closes her eyes and thinks of the memories she wishes to share. She carefully selects them to leave out any deaths or other things that she would rather not expose URSULA too. After a few minutes she opens them.]

So how do we know if it worked? Is there anyway to check it right now?

[imsorey]

--Oh, right! I've got something to play it back if you want to see.

[He grabs a touch pad from his table and offers it to her; there's a little button that says "play" and it will indeed play back her memory for her, or show whatever scene she was sharing.]

It doesn't have the smells or textures, but if the rest of the memory looks right I think it's safe to say those translated in too. If you want to edit anything you can just focus on shifting it, and then play it back to make sure it worked.

[Kanaya watches with fascination as the screen plays back some of her memories of her Lusus and hive, some of the areas of the lands she went too, several sewing projects, the towers of Prospit in all their glory, some of the dreambubbles, her oasis... yes, it's all there.]

It is all there, and in such detail. All of you have created something truly impressive.

[He watches the memories play back too, curiosity overcoming any need for privacy, though he does mostly try to focus on the landscapes.]

I can't credit for it; it was mostly Dirk figuring it out. We just had the idea and wanted to see if it was achievable. But he did an amazing job with it!

I'll be sure to let Dirk know that it worked well the next time I encounter him. Do give yourself a little credit though Sorey, you did help come up with the idea, and arranged for others to come and share there memories.

I can't help but feel a little disingenuous taking credit for the actual work put into it, but I don't mind taking credit for the things I did do. It's been pretty fun talking to people about their homes, so I'm getting plenty out of it on top of everything.

I see. Well, if you ever wish to hear more about the places in my memories, then I am willing to elaborate.

I'd love to hear about your world! --If it's not too much trouble. I only know the things about quadrants that Karkat showed us before. You grew up on the same planet as him, right? What's it like?

[lightbulbvampire]

It's no trouble at all Sorey. But yes, it is correct that I grew up on Alternia, the same as Karkat. Alternia... was not a very pleasant place.

[Malevolence would be pretty common]

The fauna was diverse, but tended to be deadly. We had two moons, one pink and one green. The only those of the jade blood cast like me could survive in the sun's rays without going blind or dying. I suppose that the planet had a raw wild beauty.

[Alternia was a decent place in terms of the planet itself, just not the inhabitants.]

Alternia was more or less solely populated by children, as all adults were banished to enter the military and conquer new planets. Our society was naturally inclined toward violence, so murder and killing was not too uncommon. It was fairly easy to get away with if you were higher on the Hemospectrum then those you killed.

[After a moments pause she adds]

I carefully selected the memories I shared, so don't worry about having to censor anything for URSULA.

[from his interactions with the other trolls, he wasn't expecting to learn this about their world, and it startles him into silence for a moment. at her last comment he shakes his head.]

N-no, it's--you're fine, I didn't think you'd put anything there that you didn't want URSULA to see. I'm...surprised to hear that, though. You've all been so nice, I would have never guessed you were from a place as harsh as that.

I'm not surprised that you would have not known. It appears that you've gotten lucky in those of my species who have shown up so far. I suppose that my friend group was more peaceful... excluding several individuals.

I guess it's not a huge sample size, but maybe it's more than luck that all of the nice trolls ended up here.
