Mass texting

[Early in the morning, maybe too early for some people, there's a very important mass text being sent out:]

HEY EVERYONE IT'S SOREY

AND MIKLEO

WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK IF YOU CAN SHARE SOME MEMORIES OF YOUR HOME, SO THAT WE CAN SHARE THEM WITH URSULA

IT WOULD MAKE HER HAPPY

SHE CAN READ ALL OF THIS THOUGH SO COME TO THE LABS WHEN YOU'RE FREE SO IT'S A SURPRISE FOR HER

NO PEAKING URSULA

[Sure enough, if you venture over to the labs anytime today, you'll find Sorey and/or Mikleo waiting around for people and multitasking at running a few tests.]

Being able to preserve them without the use of seraphic artes sounds just as impressive! It must take a lot of dedication to keep it up. I didn't realize that was something a government had the resources to do.

[The magic of technology is on the same level as seraphic artes!!!]

... Yours doesn't?

[ She comes from a privileged time in many ways. Her initial impulse is to believe that something's up to keep that from happening. ]

Are you guys at war a lot or something?

[imsorey]

Ah...you could say that.

[He's a little hesitant to get into details--talking about war is always a downer. But since she asked he doesn't mind sharing a bit, trying to keep it brief.]

There's a lot of tension between countries right now because of limited resources. It's a little hard for me to judge since I haven't lived most of my life with humans, but there's a lot of emphasis on the military and obtaining sustainable resources. Keeping people healthy and fed comes first, after all.

[ From what little she understands, that's not so different from other wars even in recent times. Well, the idea of arguing over who gets what for which reason.

So while she nods, she also wants to move a bit beyond thinking too hard on the bad things people can willingly choose to get into. ]

Mm... that sounds like war. Though people can go hungry and not be fed when they keep going on.

[ War breeds a different kind of hell than some of the impetus behind war, after all. ]

Though who did you grow up with, if it wasn't around humans?

I grew up in a village full of seraphim. They're sort of like spirits that are invisible to most humans.

[The definition still sounds odd to him, but he's learned it's the easiest way to describe them to others.]

My friend Mikleo is a seraphim--not everyone here can see him, but because of the nanites everyone can hear him.

[onethousen]

... People can't all see him?

[ She's surprised; it hadn't occurred to her, not even when she'd been paying better attention. ]

I'm glad they can hear him here, but... I didn't realise. I mean, I understand when you say it. Spirits aren't always visible to humans.

[imsorey]

It's better here than it was at home; There's only about three humans I know of who can see them, but at least half of the people here can. It makes things easier, and...well, it's just nice.

[He's always wanted humans to be able to see seraphim so the change of pace is nice to him.]

[ She smiles, nodding her head. ]

He's your friend. It's nice when you can introduce your friends to everyone properly. I bet he likes it too.

[imsorey]

He does! He can get shy about it sometimes, but that's because he's not used to it. I want everyone to be able to see the seraphim someday, whether it's on our planet or this one. With the technology available here it makes me think anything is possible. I mean, who would have thought we could share images just by thinking about them?

[onethousen]

Science Fiction would make it sound like it could... but we're living that now.

[ She nods again, giving Sorey a bright eyed look. ]

I hope that your wish comes true. That the seraphim and the humans of your world can see each other and get along well. That Mikleo-san finds more confidence in being seen. It's nice to be acknowledged. Especially if you're used to so many people not knowing you're even there.

Thank you. That means a lot.

[He is truly touched that she can offer him such sincere words of hope, especially when for so long it seemed like a far-off dream.]

I think between all of us we can make it happen--even if it ends up taking a while.

[Scratching at the back of his head, suddenly embarrassed.]

--Sorry if I got a little carried away though.

[ She ends up smiling, shaking her head. ]

Mm, it's fine. It's nice. You really care.

[ Though she pushes up to her feet with that, brushing off her backside and tugging her shirt down. ]

Those aren't the kinds of things that need apologies. That's what I think at least.

[He nods in agreement, straightening up himself.]

I do always like hearing people talk about what interests them most. It's something special to listen to someone talk about a subject they're really passionate about. So, I can see your point. But I've got plenty of time to talk about things like that, so I can't throw it all out at once, you know?

[onethousen]

[ She nods, accepting his words and the wisdom behind them. She can understand. Especially when he puts it that way. ]

Taking time to tell stories is nice. Some stories need more time than others... or better timing, I guess. So I think I understand.

[ Still, for now, it's with another shallow bow that she picks up pace and heads for the doors to the lab. ]
