There's a very big, very important expedition happening - the base's first trip as a group to the Aurora to go salvage what's inside! Very big, very important, and happening... next month. They're not going anywhere until they've conducted some research on that downed ship and gathered a good base of intel on how they might take care of - and protect - themselves.



A: THE ACTUAL WRECK

Maybe you're a daredevil who's not afraid of a little bit of radiation/fire/falling debris/angry wildlife hiding in a burned-out chassis. Or maybe you're one of the lucky ones who's immune to the radiation and are doing your part for the team. Either way, the monstrous silhouette of the Aurora looms in the distant waters of the Safe Shallows. Available for use are three Seaglides and one Seamoth to get out there, if you desire - although you might have to compete for their use. If you're feeling athletic, maybe you can even swim out there.

The radiation leak has been plugged, but the radiation itself is still dissipating from the area, so you probably shouldn't spend too long out here if you don't want to get sick. The hull of the ship is pockmarked with holes and damage, but not all of them are fit to be used as entrances by the crewmembers. Some of them might even have already been claimed by Crashes mistaking the dark nooks for caves. If you do get inside, there are still fires burning within the ship. Be careful out there!

B: GRASSY PLATEAU
 

Gotta get out there and check that new biome for resources before our big adventure. The Grassy Plateau is still largely unexplored, with plenty of treasures (or, well, survival resources) to be found.

In search of food? Apparently, those sand shark eggs are good eating, if you're daring enough to go toe-to-toe with a mother predator. Or maybe you'd prefer more exotic cuisine. Has anyone tried eating a Mesmer yet?

Alternatively, the expansive caves of this area are chock full of vibrant and unusual plant life that might offer some tasty nutrition to the hungry diver. Or there might be some that are medicinal - or toxic. Finding metals is another goal set by Ursula this month, and there's ore hiding deep down in the cave systems.

C: PARKS AND WRECKS

The Aurora's explosion left plenty of scrap metal around, and although some of it was cannibalized to fix the radiation leak, there are still husks of ship parts lying around on the ocean floor. If you're out searching for food, weapons, or other resources in any region, it may be worth investigating them to see if anything useful survived. The life pods embedded in the sand seem like a good place to start.

D: OTHER

You don't have to go foraging in the Grassy Plateau. Feel free to assist in preparations by gathering things from any of the biomes! Or you can stay in the base working on making all that weird stuff everyone else is collecting into something edible/helpful/otherwise useful.

[ listen, Peridot. He's doing his best. Don't criticize him.

Fortunately, he doesn't weigh as much as he looks like he might, and the buoyancy of the water makes him even easier to tug along. He makes a quick strangled noise of surprise, but only briefly once he realizes it's Peridot.

Luckily, he's a fast thinker. ]

S-shut up!! It wasn't me!! Now, head towards the sea floor! Hurry!!

[ Excuse you, Peridot will criticize whoever she wants. It's her right as the the smartest person in the room an arrogant little puffball. ]

I'm going, I'm going!

[ True to her word, she kicks up the accelerator and dives toward the seabed, the engine straining just a little as she tries to urge a bit more speed out of it. Those damn fish are giving chase, though. ]

I hope you have a plan!

I always have a plan--!!

[ Just call him tentacle Batman. He's not lying, though - he, of course, has an idea already. He hasn't survived this long without being able to think on his feet. Metaphorically speaking.

Wearing the wetsuit means he's lost a bit of his flexibility and elasticity - and the water means he's lost some speed - but he's hoping that it won't be enough to matter. As soon as Peridot brings him within range, his tentacles fly out to the seafloor, apparently grabbing something off the bottom. Debris? Stones? Then, with shocking agility, those tentacles fling them at the attacking parasites. ]

I'm sorryyy!!

[ Perhaps more shocking than his agility is his accuracy. Despite being underwater, using small "ammunition," and aiming at moving targets, Korosensei's little rocks all hit their marks without fail, causing the Crash fish to explode where they swim. Harmlessly away from the two of them, naturally. ]

[ Well, at least he's hitting the right targets. She's not paying attention, though. She's trying to keep on moving, because there is no way she's waiting around for them to actually catch up. She feels the shockwaves of the small explosions (and hears them), but she doesn't stop for that either. Instead, she tries to level out as they accelerate toward the seabed. Unfortunately, she's got Korosensei, which throws her off just off to make them plow into a mound of sand, kicking up a cloud of blinding particles.

Oops. ]

[ he tries to do something cool, and this is what he gets for it!! sand in the face!! At least he has a helmet on. On the flipside, since he was concentrating on the fish and trusting that Peridot knew what she was doing, he's not exactly prepared for the crash. ]

Nyuagh!! W-what happened?! Miss Peridot, are you okay?!

[ she's still holding onto him... he thinks?! he tugs his tentacle back like a lifeline, hoping she doesn't come back with a sand shark attached. ]

[ Peridot isn't wearing a mask (at least not over her mouth), so she's got a mouthful of grit. Yuck. She comes up sputtering and trying not to swallow too much sand and salt water. Fortunately, there isn't a sandshark trying to gnaw on her leg, either. She flails, trying to find her way into clearer water. She may or may not end up hitting Korosensei. ]

Why does this always happen to me? What did I do to deserve this? I'm a good person!

[ Well, at least she's still complaining. That's probably a good sign. ]

[ yeah she's definitely hitting him. His helmet, anyway. There's a hollow donk noise, but he doesn't react much - mostly, he's just relieved neither of them were hurt badly. ]

Settle down, settle down! Sensei took care of them! [ it's a good thing she's little and he has long tentacles... grabbing onto her with both hands, he holds her up and away from himself so he doesn't get punched too much, rather awkwardly trying to swim up into clearer waters with an octopus-like motion. He might look like one, but he doesn't really know how to move like one, apparently. ] Did you hurt yourself?

[ She's also not that strong and the water takes most of the force out of her swinging. She finally settles down after a few more seconds of panicky flailing and stares at Korosensei. ]

No! No - I'm - fine. Everything is right where it should be! Why wouldn't I be fine? We're only trying to avoid getting killed by everything on this stupid planet!

[tentaculled]

[ the only good thing water has ever done for him...

he sighs. ]

That's good. [ a pause as he tries (poorly) to tread water, letting Peridot go rather than continuing to hold onto her. He gets the feeling she's the type that won't put up with it for long. ] ... I understand your frustration. This situation is both dangerous and confusing. However, we must keep putting one foot in front of the other and continue dealing with it day-to-day as best as we can. Including making sure that our comrades aren't injured in Seaglider accidents.

Maybe there wouldn't be accidents if you weren't busy disturbing the incredibly deadly wild-life!

[ Peridot is generally not a fan. She's also still spitting sand and getting mouthfuls of saltwater. Uggggh. ]

I've had it up to here with this planet!

Nyu--!! That was an accident!! B-besides, if we're searching for entrances, we need to search, right?! I had no choice! It was unavoidable! Totally!

[ wow, that wise, teacherly attitude sure flew out the window quickly. He huffs and puffs for another few moments, tentacles wriggling in exasperation. ]

Anyway, we're fine now, and that's what counts! No harm, no foul! That's my motto!

[ No harm, loads of foul. At least as far as Peridot is concerned. ]

Let's just get inside...!

I'm working on it...!! Even Sensei can't predict what's behind every door.

[ but he's obediently heading back to the side of the Aurora, anyway, to look for a less threatening opening. Slowly. He doesn't swim well. ]

Anyway, we wouldn't have died. That would be impossible.

Death is a very real possibility! It always is!

[ Such a pessimist. ]

Not when you're with me. 30 different people tried to kill me every day back home, and not a one succeeded! A fish has no chance.

[ his skin flashes green stripes, similar to an octopus's changing color. ]

Of course, since you're on my team, Sensei's amazing strength will be used to protect you, as well.

Thirty people a day? WHY? What did you do?

[ That thought is incredibly alarming. She had a bad enough time when she thought there were three people trying to kill her. ]

[ her alarm only seems to puff up his ego more. (It also means she's not too shaken up from that brush with death a second ago, which is good.) ]

Nurufufu. I wonder... The government has placed a bounty on my head. Whoever can kill me will get ten billion yen. But they have to do it before March. If they don't make the deadline, I planned on destroying the planet.

[ despite his quirky, friendly attitude, he says this with a rather unsettling matter-of-fact tone. ]

Why would you want to destroy the planet?

[ Asks the gem who up until a month or three ago wanted to destroy the planet. ]

Earth is so... unique!

[ wow, which one of us is the actual antagonist here. ]

It is! I've travelled the globe many times, and I always find something new and interesting, no matter where I go. [ usually food. ] I'm surprised to hear such concern from you, Miss Peridot. Weren't you going to harvest the planet for resources, yourself?

I was, but... I... changed my mind.

[ Look, this is already awkward enough. Don't make it more awkward. ]

There was too much diversity for me to just throw it away!

Nyu?! Did you, now? I'm glad you could learn to appreciate all the wonderful things our planet has to offer! Diversity in what? People? Animals? Food? There is a lot of really great food! Sensei had some great escargot in Paris not long ago...

Diversity in... everything, I guess. The climate and the eco-system are incredible. And - well. I like some of the people.

[tentaculled]

[ this sensitive side of you is cute, peridot... he'll remember it for blackmail later. ]

I suppose it must seem amazing to someone like yourself. Is your world entirely mineral, like you?

Not exactly. It's hard to explain - but it's mostly... functional.

[ as he speaks, he lifts up another bit of loose paneling on the side of the ship - but there's no angry fish underneath this one, thankfully. Just some torn wiring and mechanical miscellany. ]
